It does a pretty good job on weeds, and stuff up to about 1.5" stems (sprouts and saplings). It isn't heavy enough to push down and ride over bigger saplings. The greatest things are the visibility of it being mounted out front, and the maneuverability with the articulated tractor. You can actually lift it up and swing it side to side similar to a giant weed-whacker.
is it a diesel ?

No. It's a 25HP gas, though there are larger 30, 45 and 60 HP diesels available.
