You know they used to air this commerical during the afternoon cartoons and the afternoon live shows like, "Charles in Charge" I guess they were aiming it at teenagers and adults although it looks like it'd either intrigue adults or teenagers that were into drama.
Yeah I'm a guy, as a kid in New York it scared me but more intrigued me and I asked my dad what it was and he said, "It was a musical about cats" I actually wanted to check it out and when I was in the 11th grade in Florida I finally saw it and have to admit the story wasn't that bad. Not a bad story for a Musical. Great Cheoregraphy, I know I misspelled that.
They used to play this commercial on Fox 36 out of Atlanta during some of the Kids cartoons. I remember watchin Ninja Turtles and even that old crap cartoon Peter Pan and the Pirates and this would come on. I think the show played at the Omni back when it was around.
@Dleushon The other commerical before that was scarier than this one with the cat and the camera zooming in its eyes in which its pupils morphed into the silhouetted dancers not to mention the synthesized music.
I remember the commercial, and even went to see the play... at the wintergarden theatre.... It was a birthday gift to me and my sister... we were not going to see it initially, but then we decided to do so! Unbelievable play! Im glad we went to see it! The best!
Oh, shit!!! I haven't seen this one in a minute. Those "Cats" promos used to fuck me up 'bout 20 years ago. :-) I remember Channel 9 (WWOR--now My9) used to always air these promos on Sunday afternoons for some odd-ass reason. Channel 5 (FOX, before it became too corporate and filled with GOP propaganda) did as well. Real talk, I'm just glad that play is over with and done. Lol...
Me too till I was 12. When I was 5, I had a dream where I was in their world at night and they gathered around me and started to tickle me and I woke up crying and wet the fucking bed. lmao!
@cb335 For me it always made me cry. Lol I went to a performance as a kid had my face painted and everything and by the time it was over I cried so much the makeup was messed up.
I remember this commercial the thing is they kept on repeating it over and over and over, I had never seen cats and was already sick of it thanks to this, Then I saw it and became a fan, not thanks to this commercial though, seriously it went on for years in the 90's
I hope they bring the show back to Broadway at some point. The current U.S, Tour is NOWHERE near as good as Broadway they've cut quite alot out IE: verses missing,"Pekes & Pollicles" TOTALLY gone. but worst of all the inflatable set is the CHEAPEST thing i've ever seen!
I think I'd need to see this again. I saw CATS when I was 12 and had no idea what was going on.
Then I saw Phantom when I was 16 and once again, I had no idea what was going on.
This commercial, however, is my freaking childhood. I must have seen the ads for CATS on New York's Fox 5 watching Thundercats a million times. Now if I could only find the ad with the dancers in the cat's eyes.
lmao I decided to do a theatre review about the original showing of Cats just based on this hilarious commercial. First time I actually saw it since the late 90's I'd say and this commercial is still spooky and odd!

Mamma Mia NEEDS to go bye bye so that the Winter Garden can be free should Cats ever return to Broadway. I can't see HOW MM is STILL popular yet it won 0 Tony's
I remember this commercial from when I was little. My aunt went to go see it and I thought it looked so cool. Watching this commercial again I now realize how silly it looks. Especially how he says "Cats" about 75 times in 30 seconds. The way he says it is hilarious.
