  • Heard this guy in a white-power video XD actually...Crazy what you stumble through on YT. Love his sound though. Went from David Allan Coe to this =) nice

  • Did anyone else see Hendrix on his tshirt? :)

  • type3, you are doing a service to humanity posting these videos. really. thank you.

  • you know, i was reading posts of a few who weren't aware of Hedges's true gift to us all(aside from the obvious), it's making his guitar sound like multiple instruments. Aside from the obviousness of the sound he produces from the guitar, it's the hidden sounds that make him perhaps the greatest human to ever work the acoustic guitar...

I think this idea of Hedges being the greatest acoustic guitar player is irrelevant, Hedges is easily this, and more, there should be no question.WHAT A LOSS

  • Hedges music told stories. Unlike those CandyRat Hedges wannabes!

  • Anyone know what's in that rack just behind him?

  • When will the estate and /or powers that be pertaining to the rights of Michael's music release his remaining live footage. Its really nothing short of a cime. This is a wonderful clip however.

  • 2:35 what intimate footage you're right there

  • This is just extraordinary. He's a genius!

  • Working on learning these three....such a great resource! Thanks!

  • NOBODY will ever do what Michael did with his guitar.... sounds like 3 different guys playing in the second song. Incredible!

  • @beautifulmusical Jealous Tunnel is my absolute favorite among the three. pure wacka-wacka awesomeness :)

  • The best video on Youtube no competition.

  • About Face is just pure win.

  • Saw him in the early 90s. Even though his music is so intense and serious he was surprisingly humorous and witty on stage. It took me years to listen to his music again after I heard the sad news. We can only wonder how his music would have developed over time. We miss you, Michael!

  • That he was.

  • You have to love Youtube, and the people who have these videos for giving them to us who weren't fortunate enough to see people like him in person.

Even though I was never able to meet him, at least I know he was one awsome man, and not just for his music, but that he was an all around decent person.

  • i love the little gap at 4:45 where it goes for that instant longer than expoected

  • Fucking genius man!!!!!!!!!

  • After 15 years of playing in bands as a bass player, I decided to go solo acoustic. Taproot was the first Hedges album I"d ever heard and it completely changed the way I looked at acoustic guitar and music all together.A part of me died with him. Rest in peace, peacful soul.

  • This was the song that convinced Andy McKee to become an acoustic guitarist. I think he was 17.

  • I love Michael Hedges' earthly tone that touches all of his songs... beautiful compositions, quite the story there.

  • I love the whistle in this. Gotta hear it now.

  • Great to see this and thank-you for sharing this. I always loved this man and his guitar and it's great to see his performance preserved here. A fine and funny spirit.

  • Genius. I love his work!

  • Not only can he play amazingly, he can jump around on stage and not take as seriously as most do :)

  • Yep quite right, total genius.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this!!! Michael was and always will be one of my all-time favorite musicians.I was blessed to see him perform live, and by uploading this you have made me remember that night every time I come back and listen to this performance.

  • you lucky bastard! I love this guy! unfortunately, i learned that only after his death, and never got the chance to see him live. they should publicize these guys more so people like me know about them

  • It's a terrific performance, but I think 'About Face' suffers from the lack of rhythm section and flute. On the album, it's truly a banner moment, and the military pomp is somewhat lost on the rendition here.

Don't get me wrong, Hedges is an utter genius. But sometimes his later recorded music suffers from entirely solo performance (as amazing as Hedges was solo).

  • Drums should of been there

  • thank you SO much for posting this. Michael was the most influential guitarist of modern days. It is a joy to see his smile in this performance. The medley has always been my fave too, esp. Naked Stalk. I love watching Michael play, thanks again !

  • I remember when this came out and I listened to it over and over in my car. He makes it look so easy...

  • and sadly, the ending of a genius..:| it seems they all somehow leave us very soon

  • he is a genius..he has the music, the behaviour, the words of a genius...

  • Hedges was God...

  • Michael Hedges was one of the greatest guitar players I ever heard.Thank you for posting these great videos - excellent sound and videography. The sound of his guitar gives me goosebumps.

  • RIP Michael. You were a wizard at creating music

  • Thanks for the reply type3 !

Well if you do get Nomad Land or anything new from Taproot that's not on youtube already let us know :)

    Thanks again !

  • what a suprise to see erik mongrain on a hedges video (jokes :P) your music is great erik, hopefully one day you can find the fame michael sadly never managed to achieve despite how much he deserved it. respect to both you and michael :)

  • His music and inspiration will always live on. Thank you Michael. You left this world way too soon.

  • I do miss him so....Glad to see Erik is watching and commenting, as I subscribe to him

  • still hard to believe he's passed away.

  • Taproot is my favorite Hedges album! An AMAZING guitarist, still unique after all these years!

  • Hey type3 , was wondering if you had any footage of Michael playing Nomad Land lying around ? Been looking forever to see him play that marvellous piece , one of my favorite !

Thanks for all these nice vids though , very very nice, highly appreciated !

  • hi erik - wow, nice to hear from you! love your music! i've posted i think all the unique pieces i have at present; i'm still looking of course, but its getting hard to find new concerts

  • Wow, good to see Erik Mongrain posting here. We love your stuff too ^_^

  • Nice to see you here Erik! Love your music too and hope to see you play in Berkeley somedays.

  • Thanks a bunch guys :)

  • i worked out the easy sounding Naked Stalk from his tab book and its waaay harder than it sounds! V hard to play clean...beautiful piece

  • its not how the song goes but it is great in its feelings I love His strangs

  • i try to learn the jealous tunnel, but i just cant get my head around the chorus :s i dont know why cos it sounds easy but i just cant figure it out, even with the tab...

  • thanks for you music michael, hasta luego amigo nos vemos en el cielo

  • immense

  • we miss you !!!~~~michael hedges!~~

  • Perfect example of his live performances. Mesmerizing tunes with little punctuations of Michael's dry sense of humor in between. I was lucky enough to see him live twice and it was impossible to NOT have a good time. You left that place - wherever it was - in a good mood. There will never be another like him. Huge loss.

  • Beatiful, Thanks a lot!!!

  • Wonderful. He is missed.

  • I was so excited to find this, and I really loved it, but the camera man had some strange ideas on when to focus away from the guitar, ugh... the best parts... oh well.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this! It will go nicely on my live sets cd :)

  • true artistry.

  • Thank you!

  • nice man :)

too bad i cant see u live anymore...

  • Thank you! You give me a gift of a life time by posting this video. I listen to this medley from my favorite cd Taproot very often. If you create dvd for every Hedges live concert you have, we'd buy them all. A great way to raise fund for his children, Mischa & Jasper.

  • His estate is in charge of that. They apparently have a lot of stuff we've never seen, and the quality is likely better. Wish they'd release it.

  • There's been a lot of guesses as to why the hoped-for live releases have never materialized, but after nearly 10 years since Michael's passing away, I think most of us have just given up hope that they'll ever come to light.

  • @type3secretion internet petition?

  • Brilliant!

  • Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
