Heard this guy in a white-power video XD actually...Crazy what you stumble through on YT. Love his sound though. Went from David Allan Coe to this =) nice
you know, i was reading posts of a few who weren't aware of Hedges's true gift to us all(aside from the obvious), it's making his guitar sound like multiple instruments. Aside from the obviousness of the sound he produces from the guitar, it's the hidden sounds that make him perhaps the greatest human to ever work the acoustic guitar...
I think this idea of Hedges being the greatest acoustic guitar player is irrelevant, Hedges is easily this, and more, there should be no question.WHAT A LOSS
When will the estate and /or powers that be pertaining to the rights of Michael's music release his remaining live footage. Its really nothing short of a cime. This is a wonderful clip however.
Saw him in the early 90s. Even though his music is so intense and serious he was surprisingly humorous and witty on stage. It took me years to listen to his music again after I heard the sad news. We can only wonder how his music would have developed over time. We miss you, Michael!
You have to love Youtube, and the people who have these videos for giving them to us who weren't fortunate enough to see people like him in person.
Even though I was never able to meet him, at least I know he was one awsome man, and not just for his music, but that he was an all around decent person.
After 15 years of playing in bands as a bass player, I decided to go solo acoustic. Taproot was the first Hedges album I"d ever heard and it completely changed the way I looked at acoustic guitar and music all together.A part of me died with him. Rest in peace, peacful soul.
Great to see this and thank-you for sharing this. I always loved this man and his guitar and it's great to see his performance preserved here. A fine and funny spirit.
Thank you so much for uploading this!!! Michael was and always will be one of my all-time favorite musicians.I was blessed to see him perform live, and by uploading this you have made me remember that night every time I come back and listen to this performance.
you lucky bastard! I love this guy! unfortunately, i learned that only after his death, and never got the chance to see him live. they should publicize these guys more so people like me know about them
It's a terrific performance, but I think 'About Face' suffers from the lack of rhythm section and flute. On the album, it's truly a banner moment, and the military pomp is somewhat lost on the rendition here.
Don't get me wrong, Hedges is an utter genius. But sometimes his later recorded music suffers from entirely solo performance (as amazing as Hedges was solo).
thank you SO much for posting this. Michael was the most influential guitarist of modern days. It is a joy to see his smile in this performance. The medley has always been my fave too, esp. Naked Stalk. I love watching Michael play, thanks again !
Michael Hedges was one of the greatest guitar players I ever heard.Thank you for posting these great videos - excellent sound and videography. The sound of his guitar gives me goosebumps.
what a suprise to see erik mongrain on a hedges video (jokes :P) your music is great erik, hopefully one day you can find the fame michael sadly never managed to achieve despite how much he deserved it. respect to both you and michael :)
Hey type3 , was wondering if you had any footage of Michael playing Nomad Land lying around ? Been looking forever to see him play that marvellous piece , one of my favorite !
Thanks for all these nice vids though , very very nice, highly appreciated !
hi erik - wow, nice to hear from you! love your music! i've posted i think all the unique pieces i have at present; i'm still looking of course, but its getting hard to find new concerts
i try to learn the jealous tunnel, but i just cant get my head around the chorus :s i dont know why cos it sounds easy but i just cant figure it out, even with the tab...
Perfect example of his live performances. Mesmerizing tunes with little punctuations of Michael's dry sense of humor in between. I was lucky enough to see him live twice and it was impossible to NOT have a good time. You left that place - wherever it was - in a good mood. There will never be another like him. Huge loss.
I was so excited to find this, and I really loved it, but the camera man had some strange ideas on when to focus away from the guitar, ugh... the best parts... oh well.
Thank you! You give me a gift of a life time by posting this video. I listen to this medley from my favorite cd Taproot very often. If you create dvd for every Hedges live concert you have, we'd buy them all. A great way to raise fund for his children, Mischa & Jasper.
There's been a lot of guesses as to why the hoped-for live releases have never materialized, but after nearly 10 years since Michael's passing away, I think most of us have just given up hope that they'll ever come to light.

This was the song that convinced Andy McKee to become an acoustic guitarist. I think he was 17.

His estate is in charge of that. They apparently have a lot of stuff we've never seen, and the quality is likely better. Wish they'd release it.
