Thurston Frazier was a very talented musician, director and organizer. He had such an influence on Gospel Music along with Gwen Lightner, Doris Akers and many others. There is something to learn from these songs. They were sung out of experience and total dependence on God..something that seems missing in many of today''s Gospel music songs. The organ and piano on the two albums done by this choir are perhaps the best you will ever hear.
I love this old classic. The first time I heard it was when a group called the "Greta Campell Trio" visited the little country church I attended as a child.
What a wonderful surprize!! I'm a 53-yr-old white guy that grew up with this album playing on the old Zenith. My dad loved to play the piano along with this album, and my family sang this song at church. We were the most soulful sounding little bunch of white faces in the planes of South Dakota. I love this album!!!! Of course, I had no idea who that picture on the back of the album was in those days.
@TheRcnorth I remember this album from back in the day too. Well my friend, I'm a 62 year old black woman and this album inspired me and my brother one Sunday morning. He was eight and I was about eleven. We got up in front of our congregation and sang this for the first time as a duet and brought the house down. I can still remember my brother smiling afterward and saying, "Hey, we did pretty good, huh?"
@TheRcnorth I'm from New York and it was about that many years ago that I first heard this album myself. Color of skin ain't what makes this a good testimony. It's the spirit of God getting down his throne in heaven and inspiring us all.
Classic. One of the nicer versions I've heard. I love this song, reminds me of when I was a little girl siting in Church. Brings back such great memories. Thanks for posting.
If I am not nistaken he was older. In either '56 or '58 he did a movie with Nat King Cole and others. He was 11 then So he may have been a teenager when this was recorded. He also played for James Cleveland on the first two albums with the Angelic Choir
Thank You for posting this. I had both albums years ago but I think they got lost over the years. You can find the history of this song and it's author Albert Goodson at Stories behind 50 Southern Gospel Favorites.
This was one of my Grandfather's favorite songs to sing from the pulpit...

A very young Billy his picture is on the cover and he had to be around 8 years old

@gospellin Billy Preston would have been 8 years of age in 1954. This album is closer to 1958, 1960, or so.
