Kate WAS confused and completely messed up - if she was with Cliff too, then Ned can be absolved in the end... b/c it makes him less responsible for what happened . Otherwise it begins to turn into a perverse sort of love story which is not the point of the film.

There was some really great A-grade acting in this film and complex characters which is why I really liked it.
