@LazyGigolo Like I was sayin BAD karma...or something...I mean watts up with that? Hollywood and their obsession with cars, you would think they would clue into something so obvious!
The sequence where Frank meets in the room with his dealer around the 36:00 point, where the dealer shoots him up, is one of of the most intense and incredible moments of cinema I've ever seen. The way Preminger goes in on the close up of Franks eyes as the drug hits him is one of the best shots in cinema history. Unbelievable this movie was made when it was!
THEY BOTH WERE MOST DESERVING OF THE OSCAR, I PRAY THEY WON, ALTHOUGH I DO NOT KNOW. THERE IS NOT MUCH ACTING THAT CAN PORTRAY MORE REALISM THAN FRANKIE AND ZOSCH... WOW, CAPTIVATION IN IT;S LEAST
SINATRA IS AS GOOD AS MITCHUM IN HIS ROLE. AMAZING!!! <MITCHUM WAS THE MOST REAL IN ANY ROLE, AND SINATRA LIVED UP TO MITCHUM'S REALISM IN THIS ROLE................ AS BRILLIANT AS MITCHUM
o thanks for the reply, i have watched sever times since i last wrote bc i love sinatra in this role, he reminds me of mitchum so much bc of his down to earth, no nonsense portrayal of this character. in other words; he made it so real. not sure what u meant by rosselini and miriam, thanks
CANT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT "THE WOMAN WITH A THOUSAND FACES" AS SHE WAS TERMED BY THE STUDIOS, ELEANOR PARKER. SHE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST BEEN NOMINATED FOR A BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE. ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE SAYS "NO, I DONT WANT TO PICK A CARD"
I THINK KIM NOVAK WAS UNDERESTIMATED IN HER ABILITIES TO SHOW EMOTION ON SCREEN. I THINK SHE DID A FINE JOB AS HER PORTRAYAL OF THE SUPPORTIVE FRIEND WITHOUT PASSING JUDGEMENT, NOT TO MENTION OTHER FILMS IVE SEEN HER IN, I THOUGHT SHE WAS RIGHT ON THE MONEY. SHES STILL LIVING, BUT SINATRA AND MCGAVIN, GOD REST YOUR SOULS. YOUVE PROVIDED SUCH ENTERTAINMENT IN A WORLD WHERE NONE COMES CLOSE TO WHAT YOU HAVE GIVEN US. IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME... AND WITH THAT I SIGN OFF.
MOST EXCELLENT, EVEN IN TODAYS TIMES.. PERPLEXING!!!
SINATRA PROVED HIMSELF THE SUCCESS HE IS IN HIS ACTING ABILITIES.
HES MOST ENDURING, REMINDS ME OF ROBERT MITCHUM. NO ACTING, JUST BEING REAL AND THAT TAKES A WHOLE HELL OF ALOT OF SELF ASSUREDNESS. THE BEST OF THE BEST...
Nearly too painful to watch, I hate to say it but I'm glad it ended with the typical American ending instead of it being true to the noir genre. Sinatra proved himself as an actor here.
Do u guys think, when they removed the poor, screaming & drug-craving guy from the cell, that the cops ACTUALLY gave him his "fix"? Do the cops actually do that?
Only thing missing is the classic opening with Elmer Bernstein's music and Saul Bass' minimalist animation. Other than that, awesome. Great, great film.
franks best, he visited hospitals to watch what withdrawal was like, years and years later he would still breakdown when he remembered it. first film to ever deal openly on the subject, changed what was allowed from then on.
Love it ......Jus watched this for first time. Its got everything. Love, murder, poverty, and addiction. Frank played a herion junky He even had alil rain man sidekick lol Mustof been reskayfor the time. Beginning to wat great movies are made of. Love ya Franky(jack Daval) tee he

It looks someone did the upload wrong. The movie is not 16x9, but 1.33:1.
People are not so fat...
Please re upload properly so we can enjoy the movie in its proper dimensions, or just fix the aspect ratio by using the proper you tube tags:
Tag:
yt:stretch=4:3
(Fixes 720x480 content that is the wrong aspect ratio by scaling to 4:3)

No, they didn't give him a fix, they just took him away, presumably so that he could recover elsewhere.
