  • That bit at the end was quite funny, when hes shouting we won and then relising that everything gone, if it was me I would stay in the shelter cause of contamination to the air.

  • What is so terrifying is that there really was a lot of that mentality around then especially pro-government after the Falklands. I remember more the feeling that Britain was on the edge of Socialist revolution. There was an edge to DA but he very rarely pushed it.I visited the USSR for a week in the early 80s. For all its faults and corruption I remember a poster in a train of the 'one world in peace' children's kind (as far as very little Russian could understand it). Never saw that in London

  • Anyone who doesn't appreciate the irony in this is a fucking moron.

  • Classic Allen but....We maybe sooner to this than we think....

  • So funny, yet so true. P.S. Dave Allen was such a genius.

  • Instead of being able to wipe out the enemy 2,000 times it's now only 1,000 times. They hope to reduce the 'weaponry' that would only wipe out the enemy 500 times - Ah to be shure to be shure eh :(

Still you have to hand it to the bankers and Wall St for sheer destructive capacity . They even keep the victims alive to torture them all the more :(

In the Middle Ages flaying alive was considered the proper penalty for usury followed by the nailing of their skins to the church door.

  • WE WON!!!

  • Gosh, knowing so many Dave Allen sketches I was expecting it to end with "you have been listening to our one month continuous drama series..." He always had a surprise up his sleeve. Thanks, Runi.

  • @RuniToconillo Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

  • For some strange reason I dont fell any safer now then I did 20 or so years ago.

  • You have to be kept living in fear or you might notice the bars on the window.

  • He got the whole point across!!!!!

    Excellent 5*****

  • He was certainly a first class satyrist. I remember another sketch he did where 3 survivors of the holocaust meet up and start fighting each other

  • Other movies - "The Day After" and "When The Wind Blows" - both excellent.

  • wow! that was 'powerful' ..

  • This isn't like his usual comedy skits, that's for sure. Very thought-provoking.

  • THANK YOU. I remember seeing this when I was young, when nuclear devastation seemed a very real possibility. It seemed such a weird way to end a comedy show, but worked really well. Nuclear holocaust is a bit of an obsession for me - I recommend Threads for those of you with strong stomachs, and also The War Game.

  • Wow, excellent video. It says a lot about nuclear warfare, doesn't it?

  • He was indeed a very sharp and perceptive comedian and this is a very good sketch even if it doesn't raise a laugh. It shows how futile and pointless a nuclear war would have been (but on the other hand there's not a lot to be said for conventional war).

  • A great comedian! I saw him live on stage here in Boston back in '79.

  • Excellent video - thank you.

  • Fantastic stuff. Saw this sketch as a kid and it scared the shit out of me. Dave Allen was so brilliant at tackling the big issues in his comedy. May his God go with him.

  • thank you for posting this video, Dave Allen was wonderful (may he rest in peace) and to see this clip again was just great- keep the memory alive! cheers

  • did you ever see the orginal ending of army of darkness??? very similar

  • Great actor because he is a fine storyteller. A fine storyteller is able to see man's folly.

  • What a dark pice of social commentary. Still, Dave Allen is just more than a comedian, he's also a brilliant commentator on society back then.

  • Brilliant. I thought this was really funny. Dave did a few of these end of the world Sketches and their all good. Thanks for posting.

  • what an actor!

  • You figure it's stunning criticism to say nuclear war deleteriously affects all fronts? You are easily stunned.

  • No, but it`s quite brave to put a sketch like this in a comedy show. It`s the kind of thing Richard Curtis and Ben Elton got praised for doing in Blackadder around 5 years later.

  • Comedy of the grotesquely absurd. Thanks for posting this. Grim, but that was the way it was. Yakovlievich and I grew up around the same time and we were worried about a nuclear holocaust. Reminds me of Threads and If You Love This Planet.

  • I want to laugh but I can't. I grew up in the 80's and this hits home.

  • Thanks a Lot.

A fine piece that proofs him to be not only a great comedian but also a stunning

    critic of society.
