  • Timpanist at 5:58 : "SHUT THE FUCK UP, AUDIENCE! THE PIECE ISN'T OVER YET!"

  • Brilliant!.

  • Man, he loves that york. I see him play it in so many videos.

  • @firehawk801 he was a york artist back then, hes back on a besson prestige now

  • what's robert's mouthpiece made of? it's black

  • @MrTimochii it might be plastic,

  • @JAGaudy I think it is. Looks like a Kelly jet-black 5G or 51D (sounds like it too, a certain kind of focus) - or a high-end similar model I've never heard of.

  • @JAGaudy IT IS NOT PLASTIC ARE YOU CRAZY NO WAY YOU CAN GET THAT TONE WITH A PLASTIC MOUTHPIECE

  • @JAGaudy @theKobus its his signature mouthpiece...Alliance DC4

  • You know Euphonium means "Sweet sound" and David Childs Really puts this to the test. I have never heard a sweeter sound from a wind instrument than the baritone. I truly love it and i'm above happy that I chose to learn it.

  • @MrTimochii Euphonium* not baritone

  • It's perfect.

  • Comment removed

  • Just about the most beautiful duet in all of opera, and how magnificent on the mellow-voiced euphoniums (euphonia? I never took Latin). Name of the instrument means "sweet sound." Since euphonium is a tenor instrument, can't help wondering how the baritone part of the vocal duet would sound on tuba. Also...whether British or American English, love to hear it well-spoken, so happy when emcee says, "...AS you've never heard it before," not "...LIKE you've never..."

  • @MTondeleo I always liked "euphonioi", though I don't think it's correct.

  • perfect! I have goosbumps everywhere! :O

  • Keep after it, kids. I'm 66, and just finished a week of adult band camp ODing on my euphonium. Still playing after all these years, and it just keeps getting better. And you'll be hard pressed to find a better euphonium tone that David Childs's. Find your inspiration, find a good teacher, and keep after it.

  • I've found many arrangements of this that are much shorter, and have wind band accompaniment, does any one know where I can obtain this arrangement.

  • Which mouthpiece is Robert using?

  • Dear god.....

I'm a trumpet player but I've been wanting to switch to euphonium because I just love how they sound compared to trumpet

This just makes me want to switch even more

  • @zbro460

i know; i started my musical education on the trumpet, but switched to the euphonium early becouse one was needed, the best desicion of my life.

  • @gertjanuniversalis exactly the same story with me. i love the euphonium.

  • @zbro460 Euphonium is great, I love it! I started out on trumpet and immediately fell in love with the euphonium and baritone when I heard how beautiful it was. You can always switch back if you don't feel comfortable. But it is a beautiful instrument.

  • I hate how the euphonium doesn't get as much recognition as the other instruments. It sounds beautiful in solos such as this one, even though it was a duet. I'm a sophomore and hope that one day I reach my goal to be as good as them two.

  • @6inclass Keep that goal. I gave up on that goal and seeing this video makes me hate myself. I wish you the best of luck.

  • Bravo. Love the euphonium.

  • No love for the euph. anymore, even though people can play them as a tuba or a trumpet. They can double for so much, and they don't get any recognition. I, myself love the Euph. and all it can do. It has done so much for me in the 5 years I have played it and hopefully through the rest of my life.

  • Wow... AMAZING!!!! David you should become band teacher at Plato High School for 2012 and 2013! Haha. Wow.. or be my private tutor =P haha.

  • oh my fucking godddddd.

  • Could the mouthpiece possibly be a black "Kelly" 12G? Very useful for cold days...no skin loss! I am honoured to own John Fletcher's (ex LSO Tuba Player legend) Euphonium and have done similar things on it in Australia...Well done boys. Brlliant.

  • @smurfbellman no its just the mouthpiece that dave and bob have chosen but nickel plated to match the york eminence's finish :)

  • does anyone know what mouthpiece Robert is using?

  • I played this dues with Dr Robert Childs niece Becky :) x

  • I wish I could do stuff with my dad!! :'(

  • @GweetleTV me too :(

  • what beautiful tone quality

  • what kind of euphonium are they playing like the brand because the fourth vale is it an odd stop

  • @zekel787 bro you got some janky ass euphonium then, all good euphoniums have there fourth valve there bro.

  • @Orange1445 well the only 4 valves ive seen are a straight 4 if you know what i mean

  • I bet they put their heart into this. Not very often a father and son can do something like this

  • where can I get sheet music for this masterpiece?

  • @liniaalverrekijker its called "Deep Inside the Sacred Temple" you can get it anywhere, i got mine from the International Institute and got it signed bu the master himself :)

  • The one thing I hate most is when people confuse Euphoniums for Tubas. Then they don't even care when I correct them >:C

  • no, like 8th partial

  • amazing ! it's beautiful sound

    I like very much

  • That beautiful I play euphonim its awesome go low brass

  • Listening to this just made me want to go practice some more. I think I'll do that. Its videos like this that make me happy I picked the euphonium.

  • 6 people wish they picked euphonium instead of flute, or clarinet, or oboe, or trumpet, or trombone, or...you get the idea

  • amazing

  • Absolutely astonishing performance...

Way to hold your slide wrong, trombonist @ 3:36 :P

  • so beautiful i want to be just like him and i'm on the road to

  • those are some high notes to hit on euphonium!!

  • @parkerr0902 not really... the highest note in the piece is a Bb

  • @Joey10Thompson10 dang srsly?? like Bb as in the 3rd partial?

  • that flute guy was GETTIN' INTO IT!!

  • This is beautiful. Enough said. Im an Euphonium player and this guy ^^^ (Daivd childs) is my role model and I would do anything in the WORLD to be as good as him. But i still have time to go, im only a freshman. (: Our school band is goig to Carnegie Hall in March! this will be a wonderful experience. (: <3

  • @Baritone723 Yeah no kidding, both him and his farther are my role models. The Euphonium is like no other sound in the band, with its capabiltiy to play low notes with the darkest and beautiful sound and high notes that just make you want to excrete body fluids (haha).

  • @LilBaritone17 lawl... band humor

  • @1cy1nferno hahaha hell yeah :)

  • @LilBaritone17 Lmao ! Agreed ! :D

  • @LilBaritone17 Lmao ! For sure !! ;D I wouldn't mind being like that when I grow up, Shiiiiit ! Lol ! I'd be like all beastin' it and what not. haha ! Buuuuut ! David Childs is just like so amazing. I would faint if I saw him in person. (;

  • BEAUTIFUL!cant expect any less than that with David.though,i would love to see David Childs and Steven Mead do a duet together, now that would be history in the making!:D

  • what the fuck is a flute doing in a Euphonium duet? D:

  • @Ktto132 This comment made me laugh so much! :L:L:L I literally read it and lol'd :L

  • that´s music

  • beautiful

  • what mouthpiece is Robert Childs using?

  • why dont people notice the euphoniums more >.< its only when we get solo's haha All about euphoniums

  • The music starts at 0:43 :-)

  • I play the euphonium and its just such a No-named instrument to so many people, but, i thinks one of the best.

  • @Beatleslove1117

i agree so many people undermine the euphonium and don't understand the beauty and the quality of its magnificent sound. and to be honest it is the most beautiful brass instrument ever made. and yes i play the euphonium too.

  • @Beatleslove1117 I play Euphonium too, I'm only 11 but I know what you mean about no one knowing what it is...

  • why don't enough people respect the euphonium?

  • @masewindu35 I DONT KNOW AND IT MAKES ME SAD!!!!11

  • @masewindu35 The euphonium is the hipster of the instrument world right now. Not enough people have heard about it.

  • @masewindu35 i know right it sucks its like we euphonium players don't matter anymore :,(

  • Does anyone else notice at 1:22 that his third finger comes over to the second valve? I always thought that was a major no-no, and I do stuff like that sometimes, so it makes me feel better seeing David Childs doing it!

  • @ajtheown well it's a major no no when you're still learning to play so you don't make a habit of it, then you'll get screwed when you get into some really fast technical stuff. but when you're like David Childs, and even God wonders how he plays so beautifully, you can do whatever u want

  • Comment removed

  • i can only hope to play close to that someday!

  • David Childs brilliant his dad is pretty good too

  • :' D this brings tears of joy, I love playing euphonium

  • Is that a King mouth piece that David has? I cant really tell from the quality.

  • @TehAxg It's a Denis Wick 4-AL with black nickel plating everywhere except the rim.

  • The few who disliked this video obviously don't know what good music is.

  • @Twelveoakstavern

Or what music is, for that manner.

  • freaken beautiful... i want this version of the song on mp3. someone tell me how please!

  • @heroes91092 it is on David Childs' CD 'hear my prayer'

  • man these guys are just puer awesomeness no one freakin compares to this father son duet man how many times do yuou see that theire tone is just unbelievable

  • man wat a blessin it must be to work wit your father especially one as talented as him wat do you like the most about the euphonium

  • what a blessin to constantly work wit your father especially one as talented as he is and wat do you like the most about playing the EUPHONIUM

  • the conductors behind him?

  • what brand and size of mouthpeice do they use?

  • Beautiful rendition of a beautiful piece of music. I am a woodwind player, but thoroughly enjoy ALL instruments in the hands of very proficient people! Euphoniums, like the baritone horn, are underrated in their ability to produce haunting, intoxicating melodies. And what a joy to play with your dad on this wonderful piece of Bizet's brilliance! In later years, David will cherish these videos as he cherishes these moments now.

  • I saw this.. It was in Swansea, Wales... On a televised 'Proms in the Park', on BBC .. Brilliant, simply brilliant... What a wonderful evening it was... You might even hear me 'whoopin' right at the end... Fantastic memories thanks for posting it @welshcoll2004, you are a star... :0)x

  • is robert childs the father of david childs?

  • eres mi idolo david

  • a yes... YO-4058.... amazing euphoniums indeed

  • Comment removed

  • @victorGM1992 these are york euphonium! york eminence YO-EU4052 with the big bell!!!

  • que clase esta gente si sabe para que construidos los instrumentos musicales especialmente los euphonium.

  • Yamaha 842?! You are crazy! They are York euphoniums... look for the top of the line in work page and there you have ;)

  • they're amazing, inspired much?!

  • Does anyone know what brand euphoniums they use? Wilwood?

  • @greghicksUS they both play york euphoniums

  • I thought all teh pr0z played Besson prestige:P

  • Yamaha 842

  • when you see the up close shot of David at 1:50, you see the york symbol.

  • INCREIBLE!

  • nuca me ubiera imaginaddo el bombardino sonando asi

  • impresionante pone los pelos depunta

  • ...can't help listening to that wonderful up high flute....

  • I have tried to play Euphonium in my earlier years. Never really made it. If I wasn't so aged, I'd be inspired to have another go, listening to these two.

  • it's never to late to try again

  • who says you can't try again? i know a 87 year old man who still plays the trumpet.

  • I almost bring tears to my eyes.

    What a wonderful sounds!

How wonderful the father and his son are!

  • well done father and son...

  • @shiny92star

    Ja, sehr......

@everyone else. Even Trombone players have to respect this kind of tone quality, and flawless upper register reaches. Just try and close your eyes and figure out which one is playing. Try and tell when they switch. Near impossible, they match so well. I hope to be able to play either trombone or euphonium half as well as either of these great men.

  • im a begginner i look up to him

  • I love David's tone quality.

  • they seem to be favouring york Euphs at the min

  • i LOVE the chorus of this duet!!

  • I wrote a poem after hearing this.

  • wow wow this is realy great!!

    respect for the players!

  • im too poor to buy my own..but the one i rent is a yamaha 4 valve brass

  • me too :-/ one of these days. Yamaha makes a good Euph though

  • I play on a 642S and I love it!

  • @richardiscool100 the ones that i own are a non-branded baritone horn (ick) and a yamaha YEP-642 i should have gotten a york YO-EU3068...

  • does he use a v cup or a u cup curious?

  • I would assume a U, it produces a richer tone.

  • i know now thanks any way

  • schöön...

  • willson

    swiss rule

  • i play a besson prestige

  • drooling

  • york's are the best euphoniums out there :)

  • beautifull!! I personaly think that brittish baritonists use too much vibrato and brittish classical trombonists should add some, but who cares?

  • their euphonium players not baritone players. different instrument.

  • They're euphoniums however, they are brass banders at heart so they put lots of vib in. orchestral players are taught to use very very little vibrato.

  • i can't get over how flawless the transitions between the two are...if you just listen to this without watching the video, it's very difficult to identify spots where they switch places playing the melody. Unless, ofcourse, you know the piece well.

  • why is David consistently looking directly into the camera? Other than that, an absolutely rock solid performance from the two virtousi, orchestral accompaniment works beautifully with euphonium.

  • I think you may be mistaken. Take a look again - I think the reason he keeps looking to his left is to keep an eye on the conductor rather than the camera!

  • @welshcoll2004 i belive so thats wat i would do

  • great!! is very fantastic.... The sound is very expresive and they have quality....

  • david is a great euphonium player and his dad is as he held the solo euphonium seat in black dyke mills brass band for quite a while

  • absolutely beautiful. Great tenure. Im a brass player. Low brass euphonium is the most beautiful sound in the band

  • euphoniums are waaay underated instruments. I play one myself. Love the richness and brightness of david's sound <3 *melts*

  • well David og Robert is two Pearl`s within music :)

  • great job guys well done

  • muito fantastico

  • David Childs is my hero!!!

  • i play the euphonium and im in 8th grade these guys are my inspirations

  • what brand is he playing on? i don't recognize that logo

  • Comment removed

  • David Childs is playing on a york eminence

and Robert is playing on a a custom eminence hence the black ends to the tuning slides. both absoloutley fantastic players.

  • York

  • its adorable how he looks at the camera at intervals..

    so cute~

  • I had the pleasure of watching this concert live in Swansea, South Wales as par to the Proms on BBC one... Near the end you can hear 'I hope' a very loud 'whoop whoop'... it's me... :0)x

The Child's family are all musically talented, all sound absolutely fantastic and my husband who is a 'Euph' player loves the.em just as much as me.

He loves his Euph and Trombone too!

HAPPY MEMORIES chaps, thankyou 'Welshcoll2004' for posting this gem... :0)x

  • what type of euphoniums are they playing on...(company)

  • Both play's York Eminence Euphonium. Those intruments have very much in common with the older Besson prestige-models:)

  • but there not as gd as sterling vertuoso i think there called

  • They're different, like Wilson are different too (for an exemple)

    They have all different quality

  • Comment removed

  • are you serious?..Sterling instruments are crap compared to Besson...ESPECIALLY the Prestige models...i recently played on a York instrument during the Texas Music Educators Association Conference (TMEA) and i really want one now...i LOVE the sound they produce and its just so comfortable to play :)...i own a Yamaha 842S at the moment though...beautiful instrument...not just saying that because i have one :)...

  • How good is the Yamaha 842? I am thinking about testing a few and getting one soon.

  • pretty good. i definitely recommend it...when i first starting playing one at my high school it was very different...the air support required is much greater...especially if you've only ever played on a small shank instrument...but its not unattainable...very nice response as well. :) try it out if you can

  • its pretty good actually, it produces a nice sound. i personally dont rly care for concert yamaha horns but that one opened my eyes.

  • I play on a 642, which is practically the same horn, just slightly smaller bore and bell. But my 642 is excellent, beautiful rich tone and response.

  • I love the euphonium and am proud to play it! (grade 6= 97 out of 100!)

  • all of the child's family play euphonium i play it as well fantastic instrument

  • süleyman

  • hmm nvm it looks too dark to be h-kote..

  • why's robert's mouthpiece black?

i doubt its plastic.. maybe H-KOTE?

  • uhh maybe cause he could of custom ordered it

  • That is simply great

  • such good blend between two great soloists...

  • It is the most beautiful tone i have ever heard

  • Both black valves and black curves in tubings?

    Robert has black mouthpiece?
