how loud do you have to crank that thing to get a good tone out of it, been thinking about getting one as my first tube amp and I keep hearing that amps like the jvm are better because they don't have to be cranked as loud

What tuning, and what gear are you using =) ?

@jonssonemil I'm tuned a half step down. Using Ernie Ball 10's. And I'm using a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 watt with a Marshall 4x12 JCM 900 slant with Vintage 30's in the top, and stock 75's in the bottom. I'm on the first stage of the high gain channel and using a BBE Boost-A-Grande pedal to push the front end.

@jonssonemil The best advice I can give is use the least amount of movement, but keep your picking tight and clean. I try not move my hand, if possible. Sometimes it's hard to do, though! But, you'll play cleaner when you just use your thumb and pointer finger. Of course if you're going to go across the strings you'll have to move your hand. But I try to stay somewhat stationary. Also, try different picks and strings. See which ones work the best for you.

@jonssonemil Everyone learns at their own pace. I know kids who have played for 2 years who are WAY better than me! To be honest though, that Deftones song isn't really that hard to play. If you want to get a little work out for your hand that isn't too technical, listen to the first Six Feet Under album. It's easy as hell, fun and easy to learn. To work on your "thrash picking", that's a good start. The best advice is "have fun!"

@jonssonemil Hehe no problem. Trust me, I know how it feels to get a song down. No matter how easy it may be. Look up any song from the "Haunted" album from Six Feet Under. All pretty easy songs and I believe they're tuned to D on that album. Which is a whole step down. Not drop D btw. :)

It's sort of a toss up. They both kick ass and the Alexi has a nice high end sound to it. The Jackson is beefy as hell and certain songs sound better on it. Haha, it's a tough choice!

yeah man, i'm getting the same alexi model cause the new one doesnt have the original floyd, guess i'll suffer through the less higher fret reach cause of the cutaway being smaller. but, yeah, i used to love the RR, but for some reason i like the feel of the alexi better and the look, and sound for that matter lol

The new ones don't come with an orig Floyd? Was is the 200 series? Usually the ESP/LTD that are 700.00-1000.00 usually have orig Floyds. Dang, that sucks! I'm still a huge fan of the RR's for sure. Still classic and metal as all hell.

well the new LTD ones from 700-1000 dont come with an original floyd, it's stupid. i dont know why they dont, maybe it'd the neck being unpainted and the COBHC painted on the back. i'm talkin about the Alexi-600 the one thats black with black pinstripe and black inlays compared to the white one you have. yours has an original i'm pretty sure, but i like the white and black pinstripe. i played the 200 series theo ther day at guitar center though, and for being 500 bucks it was still freakin good

dragon, i dont know if you got your guitar yet but if you didnt, you should go for the esp edwards guitars that you can get on ebay that have the rhoads shape with the bigger cutaway, sd blackout, gain boost swith, just like alexi's model

i did get the guitar actually, i got a used one thats literally in new condition, it also has an afterburner in it, but yeah i saw the edwards and if i could trade my white with black for either the black with white pinstripe or the pink i would do it. i really want to, the edwards are as good as the esp ones

Ahh. Well, toss an EMG in the bridge. The Duncan Designs are kinda weak. The EMG will push the front end and you'll be in high-gain heaven! Your cab will be fine if you use an EMG.
