I also know a lot of muslims who aren't nice, but that's because they have adopted the typical "immigrant" mentality. Lousy immigration politics is what is the problem.

The wages of sin is death, for through sin death entered into the world; be it mortal death or spiritual death. Spiritual death (that is, death of the soul) occurs upon the damnation of the soul. So hell makes sense because our punishment for sin is spiritual death.
As for the bible saying that there is no immortal soul:
ROMANS 6:23. "The gift of God is eternal life though Jesus Christ our Lord."
Maybe by "immortal" the author of whatever verse you read meant "invulnerable."

Also, death means that you vanish. You no longer exist. So death of the soul would mean the same thing.
And eternal life refers to the eternal life God's followers will be rewarded with after judgement day. After Armageddon.

Death doesn't mean you vanish, otherwise open-casket funerals would be pointless. Physical death is the separation of the body from the soul. Spiritual death is the separation of the soul from God's grace; just as the soul is the life of the body, God's grace is the life of the soul, and therefore separation from God's grace, being damnation in Hell, is spiritual death.
