When I get to the part where you go to "Finder" and then "Remote Disc," my windows doesn't pop up. I have installed the software and I have enabled DVD and CD sharing, too. (My windows runs on XP) Help please! Thanks
For those of you who are complaining that the Air comes with no optical drive, don't forget that people made the same criticisms when the original teal iMac came w/o a floppy drive. Everyone laughed, but Apple lead the way toward getting rid of what was then an over decade old technology. The optical drive needs to be put to rest too, it seems. Apple is leading the way again, and in ten years you'll look back to this day much as those who once laughed at the iMac w/o a floppy.
I mean, no offence but this isn't some cool technology, its total stupidity. No optical drive = No brains. Yes you may have the add-ons like the remote disc thing and USB superdrive, but why install programs the hard way when you can install them the easy way. Unless you are rich, buying the macbook Air isn't a wise move.
@crackowacko87 Well, a macbook air isn't meant for frequent, around the house use. It was actually meant for the added mobility that you still couldn't get with thicker computers, such as being lighter and using less space. So unless you're buying it for frequent around the house use, then you should rarely need to be using CDs with it.
wait, so every time u need to install a cd-based software on an Air, you require another computer or mac? Gosh, isn't that going one full circle just to install a software? Seriously dude, any pc or mac without an optical drive is the dumbest piece of equipment ever made. Its equivalent to a person having a heart but no brain, vice versa. And yes, for that matter, i am referring to the macbook air, a failed invention coming from Apple. Sometimes, being too smart makes one look stupid.
@crackowacko87 Eventually using discs is going to die out. It's cheaper and easier to steam data and that's why companies like Netflix are thriving. I mean how often do you really use your CD drive? Even if you need one, a external drive would be better. Then once you're done you can put it away and it saves power for your computer. It also makes computers lighter.
what if i left th cd that comes with my mac book air and i really need to install a software and my bf has a pc but hasnt installed the remote disk thing?
