@neeseyxox I'm not exactly sure of your question. Android 3.X is Honeycomb. The Xoom has been updated to Android 3.2 (free updates). There shouldn't be a price difference with Xoom's unless you get one on contract from a cell carrier with a service plan
@sampman2011 Correct, MZ604 model. Motorola has said that the Xoom will be receiving the ICS update and given that this is the Wifi only model, the update will come quicker than for those from a carrier.
@slafkec It is a little weighty and if you're holding it in your hands for quite a while, it can start to feel heavy. It's only 1.6 pounds but there are other tablets that are lighter.
@Mogultech androidcentral*com/motorola-announces-details-android-31-update-xoom (replace the * with .) It's a nice update, but not really worth a video for it
how well does Google Apps (specifically Google Docs, Blogger, and Google Sites) work on Xoom? Please advise. Can you create and edit in Docs, Blogger and G Sites on Xoom?
@CFELSKE They all work with full functionality. The mobile sites haven't been optimized for tablets yet but in combination with the apps, you'll be able to find one way or another to get what you need to do, done
@sicklidz Rear facing camera* No particular reason I mumbled though and I'm not ashamed of having a MacBook... I'd rather run OS X than Windows! When Google comes out with it's ChromeOS, you can bet I'll pick that up. Apple makes great stuff, but their mobile devices run an inferior OS in my opinion.
@Warlondo Depending on your phone, you can tether it to your Xoom and get data that way. If you have an Android phone, I'd root it and there are a few tethering apps available for root users. (That's what I do with my HTC EVO 4G)
I got the wifi Xoom at Bestbuy yesterday. I have had issues with the Youtube application and the Google Books app. I did a search on this and seems like other people are having the same issue. How about yours?.... I was a little sad I love my Droid X but so far my expectations with the Xoom have not been met. (sometime I cant click on the shortcuts or widgets they seem to freeze up) has happened a few times and have reset the device to factory 3 times.
@AlternativeEnergyNC I haven't experienced those problems you're referring to to the point where I've had to factory reset it. A couple times, one of the widgets stopped working for me so I could either restart the device or just simply remove the widget and readd it to the homescreen.
Great Review! Hows the battery life? Have you used Grooveshark with it? I read that the XOOM can play m4v and h.264 mp4 files. If you downloaded the necessary codes like K-lite and win MP it should play .avi, right? can you even dload a k-lite codec and win media player?
@Redcapedhero Battery life is excellent. 8-10 hours with heavy usage easily. I have not used Grooveshark myself but others have and they have verified that those files do work on the Xoom with that app.
can i connect an EDGE/GPRS modem to this device and get internet? If not is there any other way? I will be gone out of usa and buy an edge modem there
@down284 This device is Wifi only so unless you have a phone that can be used as a Wifi hotspot or you have a wireless hotspot modem, then it won't be able to connect to that type of network. There is a CDMA version available on Verizon so it's possible that Motorola could introduce a GSM compatible model. However, there hasn't been mention of anything of that sort happening yet.
@n64kps have you tried to use Rock Player or Arc media to play any avi files? This is my make it or break it. Im using Azul on my iPad to play all my files without conversion.
Been thinking about getting this or wait for the Samsung Tab 10.1.
I basically want pure Honeycomb and most frequent updates. Is this like the better choice? I'm not so sure about Samsungs touchwiz UI and whether you can turn it off.
@blue13x I was contemplating the Samsung Tab 10.1 also but Samsung decided to put a skin on top of Honeycomb (which will only delay updates even further and Samsung has not been known recently for speedy OS updates). You'll only be able to turn off their TouchWiz crap with a custom ROM (and we don't know if those will be possible with Google locking the Honeycomb open source code).
If you're looking for pure Honeycomb and frequent updates, the Xoom is the way to go.
hi there, great overview thanks. Question, the power adaptor/charger that comes with the wi-fi xoom, can you or anyone please tell me the input voltage rating - is it 100 to 240V? It will be on the back of the charger/adaptor. I live in Australia and I''ve ordered a xoom from the USA, if the voltage doesnt have the range above I'll need to find a power adaptor thats suits aussie voltage so I can charge it. look forward to any responses. thanks
Dude!!!! Did you make a stand like thing fr your camera with Kenex's?! That's flipping awesome! Props! By the way hows the battery life? With frequent usage? Or how does it compare to the iPad's battery life? I have a 64GB Wi-Fi iPad was thinking of getting this instead.
@xMattieGeex Yup, I sure did! It works great! The battery life is very comparable to the iPad. I played with it for 3 hours solid and it dropped 30%. So looks like battery drain at 10%/hr will give about a 10 hour battery life. Even if it's slightly less, it'll still last you more than all day, probably 2 days of good usage for sure. I also have the 64GB Wifi iPad so I have something to base my comparison off of.
@n64kps That sounds great! This sounds weird, but could you possibly take a picture of your base of the stand so I can get an idea of how you made it? You got me thinking of building one. I am a huge Kenex fan so if so if I make one I could possibly improve it and share my version with you. Also it does last last lest past 6 hours with heavy internet usage right? I'll sub I'd like it if you did as well I have so good content on my channel.
@xMattieGeex Yeah, I'll shoot you over a pic in a little bit. Mine works quite well and it's height adjustable. The Xoom will definitely last more than 6 hours of heavy and constant internet usage.
Thanks for the review. Can you have multiple windows open in Gingerbread like you can on a desktop? For instance, can you have a Gmail window open on the left side of the screen and the browser open on the right side of the screen? Or is it just one window/app only at a time? Thanks.
@andyhwaiting This isn't Gingerbread (2.3), it's Honeycomb (3.0). @7:19 you can see those are the recently used applications/multitasking. You just click on one of those preview windows and you can switch back to that app. You can't have two apps open on the screen simultaneously, like the example you mentioned. You can easily switch between the browser and Gmail with the multitasking button but it's only one app displayed at a time.
@n64kps you might have figured it out by now, but the privacy LED turns on anytime the front facing camera is being used to record video or video chattig. while you are in the camera app have some fun with time lapse recording. Another thing is I was successful in getting 10 fingers of multi-touch
@measles27 It's actually not too bad. I was a fan of the all black Verizon and I considered getting it instead of the Wifi version just because of that, however, the Titanium Gray/Silver look is quite professional and looks very nice. If you have a case on the device, then it's not really going to make a huge difference in the long run
@measles27 Yeah, I was pretty impressed. From what I'd read and saw before I actually touched the device, it looked a lot more silver than the nicer Titanium Gray that it actually is so I'm okay with it
Cool thanks man, I know that people who own a Droid x have been able to Bluetooth tether, yeah my phone is rooted running cm7 but for some reason tethering on 4g isn't all that fast oh well thanks again
@MrAhhlix I'm sure Bluetooth tethering works but Wifi tethering is much faster. The Droid X doesn't have 4G so you're only running 3G through tethering (which is why it may seem slow to you)
@MrAhhlix There really isn't much I could do with a video on that. If your Evo is rooted, then just download the Wireless Tether for Root Users app from the Android Market and start it up. It creates a Wifi hotspot (and you can change the network name and add a password) and you just log onto it with your Xoom like any normal Wifi network. If it's not rooted, then google "unrevoked" and it's a very simple and easy process. It takes something like 2 clicks. Let me know if you need more info!
