I haven't been out there since 1973 When I was in college (UCLA). I remember surfing out there and wiping out several times. People don't realize those waves break right near the shore Also the waves close out fast So going through them in a barrel are non existent. The waves use to be between 18-20 feet back in the day.

I live on the east coast and still surf at age 56y/o

and to answer your question it depends how u fall. if you get sucked over the falls and get thrown to the bottom sometimes it hurts, but other time you can escape out the back of the wave if its not that heavy. Just depends on how u fall bra
