  • Someone bring in the vocoder for the Radio London jingle.

  • Nothing better then hot women singing the songs you grew up loving.

  • yes it's generous and beautiful

  • wtf this is horribad.

    Like seriously awful.

  • if you already heard this and failed to tell me about it, i gotta ask: what HAVE you done for me in the past 6 years?

  • Timeless GREAT MUSIC !

  • meh. it's ok i guess. prolly big with folks who like the nylons and other a capella groups. certainly less annoying than most pop out there.

  • Beautiful! I like the song, I love the arrangement. The performance is quirky and wonderfully entertaining.

  • The woman standing just to the right of Petra Haden (the lead singer) is Tanya Haden - Jack Black's wife.

  • though i never enjoyed her rendition, and didn't enjoy this video, i definitely respect her and think it's awesome someone besides me likes the who sell out.

  • I saw them do the full performance at the Getty around the same time; incredible.

  • I've heard guitar solo's,

    I've heard drum solo's

I've heard bass solo's....but I've NEVER heard a Lips solo like at 2.15 lol :)

Great fade out at the end as well.

    Well done.

  • She is freaking adorable

I wanna do stuff to her even though she's nearly 40*

    *(sexual stuff)

  • I think they could have musically taken a step forward with some male basses, but I guess that might defeat the point.

  • I love her ecording of Sell Out, and this performance is even more interesting! Great stuff, so many beautifull harmonies. :-)

  • They are *unbelievably* cool!

  • Baby felt it... and I !

  • I'd love to get a look at the other side of the music stands...

  • Pretty cool but the song is called "I Can See For Miles" not "The Who Sell Out", that's the name of the album. Still cool.

  • @thearchives ... this group is called the sell outs ... i think that's why this is written that way

  • @thearchives This is from a performance of the entire album.

  • Townsend's working on a version of this with the Mormon Tabernacle Boys choir-- a cafella, Daltrey on lead, of course.

  • @raydog699

A cappella (Italian for "in the manner of the church" or "in the manner of the chapel"[1]) music is specifically solo or group singing without instrumental sound, or a piece intended to be performed in this way.

  • F'ing awesome. And how perfect is it that they have a pregnant bitch on the far left? Priceless!

  • she's jack black sister in law?

  • Wow

  • this is the best thing i have herd in ages! This is my fav Who song! Their most under rated song ever!

  • Brilliant concept that mirrors well Townshend own tongue in cheek concept album. Even these angelic voices can't castrate one of the ballsiest r and r songs EVER. She's Jack Black's sister-in-law. Figgers.

  • There's something about great vocalists that is just so HOT! I'd be with anyone of these women

  • Stunning!

  • better than anything.

  • Pretty funny considering this is one of my favorite album's and they actually do it very well even with the lack of no instruments

  • Unlike Tina Turner doing Acid Queen ....?

Or Betty LaVyette doing Love Reign O'er me ? Guess their not chicks....LOL

  • Good point:)

  • Thought Pete liked it....?

  • I concur

  • such language!....and this from someone who likes the Who without balls? fuck off, cunt indeed.

  • Sounds off to me too.

  • This comes from a "must have" CD.

  • This is one of my favorite Who songs. Thank you girls. I love the gargling! LOL

  • i like how they use their voices for different instruments

  • se mueve de una manera muy graciosa petra... igual la amo!

  • That song is so different with Estrogen instead of Testosterone!

  • Fantastic !!!That was wicked !!! I love The Who and that was very COOL !!!...thanks to Jane for sending !! EXCELLENT !!*****

  • Have you heard the whole Sell Out re-invention???

  • My God, this is great!

  • i like the continuous guitar sounds close to the end, i think it's a nice build up

  • F*ing awesome!

  • sounds awful! wtf?

  • Petra Haden and Sellout's are Awesome, nothing can describe....no with simply words...Superb job.

  • Diggin the Preggers

  • pretty fuckin cool

  • Actually, this is what Mr. Townsend had to say about it:

"I listened all the way through in one sitting and was struck by how beautiful a lot of the music was. Petra's approach is so tender and generous. I adore it."

  • @watermelonzenana

Can imagine Townshend was pleased.Although, unlike the original LP, this is not for repeated listenings I reckon. Petra has "shaky hands" too...it seems...

  • This sounds like a marijuana induced idea of a song...

    Which means very clever.

  • Petra is brilliant (along with the entire Haden family)

  • Petra Haden did her version of "Sell Out" with *just* her voice and a multi-track recorder, building the tracks one voice at a time. I've done it, and it's *not* easy to do, *especially* with the precision that she gets!

The one drawback is that it *does* lack the power of The Who's original, but there's not a lot of people who could match them to begin with, so I'm not gonna fault her for that!

    Simply amazing!

  • I CONCUR

  • Nah...they probably slept through it.

  • "I was a little embarrassed to realize I was enjoying my own music so much, for in a way it was like hearing it for the first time. What Petra does with her voice, which is not so easy to do, is challenge the entire rock framework ... When she does depart from the original music she does it purely to bring a little piece of herself -- and when she appears she is so very welcome. I felt like I'd received something better than a Grammy." - Pete Townsend

  • I Love Petra!

  • I think I would up the tempo.

  • this is crazy as shit

    crazy AWESOME!

  • I think this is awesome!!! Girls rock too.

  • if pete townshend isnt threatened by this why are you? is your dick really that small? poor boy

  • hehe - i love eccentricity

  • This is brilliant, I think

  • Love it.

  • It's different! Did'nt Pete right a song called Music MUST change. Well here ya go.

    Rock on ladies!

  • yeah, i love the who and petra, but... i don't know. not that it needs to be soulful... it's so white bread... plain. I can't jam this everywhere i go. it's nice though.

  • This is god damn awesome.

  • Well, they're a lot better looking than The Who at any rate...

  • Ummm, Pete Townshend absolutely loved her version of The Who Sell Out. Like it or not, it is an amazing thing to cover all the instruments of a Who album, including drums, with your voice. It takes a thorough knowledge of the composition. Petra is brilliant.

  • This is pretty damned good. I want to hear what she did with some of the nicer songs from Sell Out like Sunrise or Our Love Was.

    Guess I gotta buy it.

  • "some of the nicer songs?!!" I Cab See For Miles is one of the best ones on there.

  • i love the who and i think petra haden did an extremely good job!! i love her work. but i can't chose which version i like better. they are both good in their own ways.

  • This is INCREDIBLE! TZ

  • SmackDat13 - i'm going to hate on you here.

This is awesome! You need to read up on how this whole record came about.

    This is incredible.

  • Go listen to some Soulja Boy.

  • sorry but i have to agree with smack dat. She's hugely talented but is not a true who fan and you can feel that it sounds like a SUV or spray colgne commercial. I'm a lifelong Who fan and it's great but soulless.

    'The bees are coming....' zzzzzzzzzzzz

  • "SUV or spray colgne commercial."

That makes sense, seeing as though it's off of Sell Out.

  • Or that. Whatever.

  • It's just not my thing. Rachel Fuller does great Who covers and so does Eddie Vedder but this just hurts. All Who fans like myself who sing their music have a bit (ok a lot )of petty resentment about non-addicts coveriung their stuff. She's talented but not a dyed in the wool Who head , it's just too Mills College crack night for me.

  • She covered the whole album using an 8-track and her own voice! It seems dyed in the wool to me.

It's not very Who-ey, sure, but it's still respectable.

  • I'm well aware of the genius that went into the disc and it kills me with envy but from what I garnered it was a friend or brother who was the original addicted Whohead not her.

  • Yes, she had never heard the record before. Didnt even know about it. Mike Watt had to convince her to do it. Very good job. I bought the album, but you could tell she did not get the essence of it. It was cool, but she aint no Who-head.

  • Girls can't be gay dumbass

  • Are they singing 'cha ching'? Reminds me of a Saturday Night skit. Ya know the two sisters signing the 'hits'? Sorry - not diggin it.

  • WOW THEY'RE GREAT!!!

  • i too like it because its different than what i expected. love the acapella of them all.

  • The album is remarkable and, in several instances, Haden's take exceeds the originals.

  • DREAM ON!

  • This is the greatest thing I've ever heard.

  • i really like this,it's different.

  • I didn't like it very much, but good job anyway.

    Great choose of the song.

  • Incidentally, Townshend thought this would be his big hit and was disappointed when it was not that big of a hit.

Do they take their from the Who's album title?

  • Sounds like The Association. Cool, but very WHITE.

  • White Power!

  • So what's wrong with white?

  • Did I say that there is something wrong with white? The Who are a bunch of white blokes. I've offerred my commentary on the subjective qualities (as I see them) of this performance. This version of I Can See For Miles is a cool idea and very well performed. It's just...well...very WHITE. Why are you so defensive? You must think that there's something wrong with being white.

  • you white devil. It is a good song and performance.

  • "It is a good song and performance"

    Did I say otherwise?

  • No, you said right. I was agreeing. You good man.

  • it's really when you say, "cool, but very white" -- "but" implicitly introduces an opposition between "cool" and "white".

  • Is that Jenny Toomey on the right side?

  • FANTASTIC!

and CONGRATS are due to her as she'll be TODD RUNDGREN'S bassist this summer '08

  • Not exactly. It's her twin sister Rachael who will be playing bass with Todd. Petra plays violin.

  • AWESOME I enjoyed this video alot

  • I guess you could say she was, literally, giving lip service to Pete's guitar solo.

  • That's amazing! And odd.

  • that dog. was an awesome band, damn I miss them! And yes, the correct spelling was "that dog."

  • i love this song its very catchy and cheerful to brighten up your day =] =} there realy brilliant singers XD =D

  • Wow this is really cool done like this. Petra has a great voice

  • Wonderful! The only group besides The 'oo i have ever heard it play sing right. Absolutely the most difficult Townshend composition ever to sing! Bravo!

  • pete gave petra his blessing on this project. charlie hayden is a fantastic jazz bassist...check out his work, too!

  • bravo

  • two words to explain this EXELLENT SINGERS lol

  • This is just a part of "The Who Sells Out", re-imagined. It's amazing and fun. Check it out.

  • Great job, Petra. This is such a beautiful and complex arrangement. This really makes me appreciate the influence she had on the great harmonies of "that dog.".

  • GOD I LOVED THAT DOG!!! The atonal guitar grunge and the heavenly vocal triads. I'm so glad that she's still at it.

  • This is hard work and done with great love and appreciation for the music. I have seen her do this twice and it is truly a great experience. And Petra is a warm person-think that shows in how she pulls this off.

  • Fantastic! It would be fascinating to do an arrangement with her---I'm not surprised that this is so great! Well... YES I AM WOW!!! I'm pretty sure Petra loves me too! :)

  • Petra Haden. I love you! Will you marry me!

A gal singing The Who! How cool! That was fantastic!

  • Wonder what Townsend thought of the finger guitar solo !!!

  • I forgot something... Oooh yeaaaah... LOL... great !

  • What's funny is that, if I had to count, I think I've listened to Petra's version more than The Who's. How weird is that?

  • It's neither.

  • Simply OUTSTANDING.

  • thats fuckin hot.

  • reminicent of brian wilson..wonder what her influences are

  • Hmmm...maybe she comes from a musical family? ;)

  • You should hear her do God Only Knows.

Too bad that one's not on youtube. I found it as an mp3. It's excellent.

  • Stunning... I'm a fan of the Who. This makes me want to hear more of Petra's music.

  • now that's what I call a girl group!

  • STFU

  • This is the best "fuck you" song, ever. I think Petra really gets that across with her version of it.

  • These women are very beautiful and talented. I need to see 'Petra and Sell Out' do other songs off the album.

    I really, really like this!!!!!

  • Just the best version of the song ever....even Pete would agree!

  • When Pete Townshend first heard her "Sell Out" album, he said he felt like he'd just won a Grammy. And it was as though he'd heard his own album for the first time. He loved it.

  • Petra does a great duet with Greg Dulli on the song Pussywillow.

  • I listened to the CD version that Petra Haden did of the whole album, by herself with an 8 track recorder. It is friggin crazy!

  • More, please!!

  • Awesome.

  • I wish I had known about the show! Her take on The Who Sell Out was quite interesting. Would love to see a performance of the full album (especially since The Who refuse to play any songs from it!).

  • Except for 'Tattoo' and maybe 'Mary-Anne'.

  • Did she really do the whole alum "The Who Sell Out"? I would like to hear a couple more difficult tracks on that a capella. "Jaguar" and "Girl's Eyes"...

  • Only the original album. 'Jaguar' and 'Girl's Eyes' weren't on the original album.

  • This is impressive. I'm not sure if I like it or not, but it's definitely unique, and it seems everyone involved is having a good time.

  • My god! Those harmonies!!!!

  • ooo mataron el tema....ajajaj

  • is this what happens when you go baroque and have no more money to afford the instruments to play this track it is a good tribute to the who though

  • oh my......

  • Amazing night, Sassas.
