I think that electric motors are wonderfull things. a diesel electric locomotive has electric traction motors on the bogies. These are geared to the wheels the power comes from a genarator driven by the diesel engine(s) a record player has a motor inside also and a vacuum cleaner. The diesel electric loco`s motors are dc machines and hoovers have ac motors inside
@palexandersquires Vacs use universal motors which are not AC, but can be ran on both. An AC motor has only a rotor with no brushes or commutators. Also modern Diesel electric trains use 3-phase AC induction motors instead of DC as was common in the past.

now do the math that was put into designing these motors.... lol

no you could not. it just would realse eddy currents and blow up.

@sean4135 pure oil is not conductive :)

hermetic varnish this motor, than maybe you can run in oil.

With sufficiently insulated electrical connections and a VPI-insulated rotor you should be able to run this under water.

Sorry I meant stator and not rotor.

Some factories will do an additional step to bind the stator coils- they will stitch them together to completely immobilize the wires.

wow they do it all by hand I didn't know that

I do this for a living.
