I wouldn't convert one now that the 4G6 is available. Mine flies well and has loads of power but the motor and the batteries have not lasted longer than 6 months.
If you want to convert one look on the rcgroups forum for one of the latest solutions.
Visit the website of Terance from Chinese Jade for the 4G6 conversion.
Can you give all the exact specs on what you have and how it is hooked up? I am looking to do this myself & would like all the help I can get. Also I am just starting to look into this, so if there is a specific forum with info, feel free to point me in that direction instead.
Yes It flies very well (as well as can ever be expected from a motorised tail anyway). If I was a better pilot I could fly it inverted. It has plenty of power.
I fly it every other week. The batteries dont last long though.
I find they don't last long, which is understandable because I am running it on a higher voltage than they are rated at.
In any case, if you crash with them when the motor is powered, the brushes burn out. Their response to the gyro input is not as good. Often. as the battery voltage drops, you loose tail control.
Check out the forums, there are lots of people trying to convert them.
The problem with any motorized tail is that it must speed up or slow down to initiate corrections or to piro one way or the other. A driven tail ( shaft or belt ) turns at the same speed all the time and changes pitch to correct or to piro. Driven is a much more accurate and fast system.
So you put the walkera servos into the spektrum receiver? The Walkera servos are for 3.5 to 4.5V. Wont they break if you give them 5V from the receiver?
What voltage do you feed the spectrum receiver with?
what things did you get to convert it and do you think the same can be done for the walkera43b ? cause I have a dx7 and it will be handy to convert mine at some point but need to know what to get first
Cheers, unfortunately my esc was going to low speed on low voltage after just 1 minute. I am getting some more batteries and will try a lower voltage cutoff next week.
The flying was very stable although the 3 in 1 will need replacing as I cant get it to mix in 3d mode. I will have more progress next week.
damn!!! walkera vg3 with a 3s lipo? must be pretty freaking heavy

@rockonmyfriend
It was a lipo that was 4grams heavier than the stock batt.

@Sirricardo6 ok so it was one of the low miliamp ultralight ones... didnt it come with a 1 cell lipo?

how did you convert it?

how much does it weigh? does it fly properly? thanks!

Total is 82g

I have another utube video showing it flying.

what is the problem with motorised tails? Ive read what you said a few times, but dont know why.
I've got a 4g3 and my brushless is coming during this week, I've chosen walkeras brushless kit.

As it's hard to see on the video...
Why do you have a 3in1 receiver as you have a separate gyro and a spektrum receiver?
Do you have the servos in the 3in1 receiver or in the spektrum receiver?
How is everything wired together?
Do you have a separate BEC for the spektrum receiver? Voltage?
A BEC for the 3in1? Voltage?
VERY interesting

Hi Peos,
Not using the 3 in 1 now (I removed it, and replaced it with a Logictech gyro and 0.5gram brushed motor controller for tail).
Everything plugs into the spektrum reciever.
Bec is built into the 6A brushless controller.
Cheers,
Rich.

Rx is connected to the 6A ESC. I assume it is 5V. I have had no troubles with the increased voltage to the servos.

Rich.

Check the most excellent RCgroups forum.
My 3 cell solution is probably not efficient enough for your 4#3.
Ypu basically need,
2 cell lipo 10-12g, Losi BL motor, 6A Bl controller, 0.5g Brushed motor controller for tail, Spec 2g Rx, Lightweight gyro (stripped esky HH gyro). Lots of patience ;)

ok thanks mate its proberbly to technical for me but congrats on getting it to work with a dx7 a very good transmitter

nice... it sounds like you have a very fast head speed. and power to spare. look forward to checking out your website as soon as it comes online
