Suffering, hmmmmm....for the catholic, when we suffer, even if it is regular physical suffering and not necessarily suffering of or from persecution for the sake of the gospel, is an opportunity to come along side Christ and share, if only slightly,
in His suffering. We then are invited to offer it up, as a free will gift of trust to the savior for Him to take it and do what he pleases with it. We are invited to ask Him to use our humble acceptance of this suffering as a way to become closer to
Suffering for Christ, unlikes Buddhism, guarantees us an eternity in paradise with God, not just a life of happiness here. Catholocism is much more positive because it deals with what is to come, not some blink of an eye period of time on this earth. That said, Fr. Stan seems to be really dumbing it down. Maybe the audience for this needs it. Just sayin...........
Man is an intangible mystery and should suffer to remain an intangible mystery. That passes as wisdom? PLEASE! No offense, but this religion is a useless plague on society.
@bcharville - There were calendars in use long before the current one. Jesus did not invent the calendar. The bible's dating of history is totally screwed up. Science has proven the earth is billions of years old, not centered around man 5000 years ago as the bible suggests.
@bcharville Lets address the Sabbath. Last year the 4th of July fell on Sunday, the Sabbath No work and no purchasing material goods, right? Guess who was peddling. The Catholic Church near my home was selling fireworks in the church parking lot. How's that for hypocritical. In the Bible they would stone you to death for working on the Sabbath and here the church is peddling explosive devices that cause numerous fires and injury's each year and pollute the environment. Go Figure!
@ohsnap31 lol and their "Church Raffles" always crack me up. :D We disagree on so much, but really, I do feel bad for way I replied the first few times. Sorry 'bout that and I hope you have a good future. Best of luck with all. :D :D
@ohsnap31 Ha! Don't make me laugh... We know that you have have life and so you feel the need to come here and criticise others for their beliefs. Leave this place, and go eat some of Buddha's belly button lint.
@bcharville "go eat some of Buddha's belly button lint." REALLY? That is your response. What a compassionate Christian you turned out to be. I don't give a crap about Buddha other than I respect that he was a wise man who never claimed to be a God unlike Zeus, Jesus, and the 100 other wack jobs that did. You do not understand. I am not bashing your religion, I am bashing all of them. The religious mind is primitive and superstitious and arrogant. you are not the center of the universe.
@ohsnap31 - Please correct me if I'm wrong but the impression I have always had of the Buddhist philosophy is that suffering is something to escape from which is in direct contrast to the belief that we all gotta suffer and take up our cross daily....I think that the real problem here though is that for many what Fr. Stan is rapin' about will come across as making out that suffering is something good in itself, which it is definitely not...It is however real and can be transformative.
@BorisG7 Yes, Buddhism teaches us about the transformative value of suffering and the end purpose is a life of happiness. The purpose is not to escape from suffering by avoiding it. It is precisely be meeting it head on and dealing with it that we can transform it. The contrast is that Fr. Stan is telling us that we have to suffer for God. We have to take up the cross for him. The philosophy of Buddhism is much more positive, the purpose is to end suffering and live a life of happiness.
Of course you think that Buddhism or any other religion that is not your own is screwed up. In a nutshell, research shows how strong the tendency is to excessively critique new information that is inconsistent with preferences and to let preference consistent info slide by easy. I can't imagine that this bias is more pronounced anywhere than with religious beliefs. You have been brainwashed by your beliefs.
@ohsnap31 Thats extremely arrogant... since religion means the Binding Truth God has revealed about himself.. to deny religion, is to deny who God is.. TRUE religion is to "love God with all your mind, all your heart, and all your strenght"... So a relationship with God without religion is technically impossible since you deny the truths about God when you deny religion.. its not either or, but both and!! You need both religion and relationship which are made to be taken with eachother.
@dcrippen2000 SERIOUSLY? Friend, your God is so obviously man-made it's ridiculous. Nevertheless, you believe anything your told that makes you feel good. Stop feeling and use your brain. The truth is you are brainwashed. God is the adult version of Santa Clause. To believe a personal God listens to prayers like a genie and he interferes with our lives is so detached from factual reality. Every culture has its God(s). They all cant be right but they all can be wrong. They all fail.
@ohsnap31 nooo.. every culture has its own God because we can know his existence by human reason.. However, thats all we can know.. All religions besides Christianity are wrong because they all started with the same basic truth and then built human ideas into it.. Christianity didn't do that because God came and revealed himself and, consequently, his religion to us. Otherwise, it is impossible to discover God's supernatural religion without him relealing it himself. This is why were right.
@ohsnap31 And that is also why it is illogical to compare Christianity to other religions because the others were created by men and the other, by God..
@dcrippen2000 Let me let you in on a little secret. "God" revealed himself to the believers of Zeus, Native American Gods, Mohammed, etc. I know you are an atheist when it comes to all the other religions. You do not believe that it was actually God although those people were 100 % sure it was. I do not blame you. They have no evidence. The stories are silly and make no rational sense, kinda like the bible. I just go a step further and include your BS religion as well.
@bcharville You want to cherry picking the bible or does the talking snake make sense to you as well. Noah's arch, the flood (because God loves us), human sacrifice, God speaking to people from the bushes...this all makes good sense to you. I will tell you want makes sense. Thousands upon thousands of sperm and 1 reaches the egg first giving each of us unique life - God and soul had nothing to do with it. You did not exist before your birth and you won't exist after. Stop fooling yourself.
@ohsnap31 To prove that we exist is rather more difficult than you might imagine. If there ever was an important question, it is "Does god exist?". If there is no god, then why not be evil? Why the truth? Why not lies? If there is no god, then everything is permissible, but nothing is meaningful. Was is wrong to write to you the way I did? Yes, and I apologize. Not because I think you will accept it. But because I did wrong, and I am sorry. Stay safe for it is indeed a dangerous world.
Remember PEOPLE!! The Bible was Written by MAN!!!!!!!!!!!
You understand! MAN!! Man who is flawed and far from perfect so DONT TAKE THE BIBLE LITERALLY!!! go ahead & read it but dont let the CHURCH spoon feed you Bullshit! You take it and analyze it yourself! ASK QUESTIONS!!!!!
@bannergreen17 Re:Remember PEOPLE!! The Bible was Written by MAN!!!!!!!!!!!
You understand! MAN!! Man who is flawed and far from perfect so DONT TAKE THE BIBLE LITERALLY!!!
Hopefully you understand that Christians believe man wrote scripture but man was not the author. Christians believe that the Holy Spirit wrote the scripture through man and that is different than man writing it.
How can the Catholic Church teach a false Gospel when it was the Catholic Church which taught and put the Bible together for liturgical worship. Anybody who holds that the Church teaches a false Gospel does not know the history of the Church.
That is correct, we can go down the list of all the heresies the Mother Church had to fight in order to preserve the ONE truth...I mean Non catholic Christians don't even eat & drink the body & blood of Christ like HE requested...
@BigBearPaul Thankyou...you are absolutely right! and dont forget that scripture itself says that The church - not scripture alone - is "the pillar and foundation of truth" ..meaning the teaching authority as well as Tradition that has been handed down for 2000 years.
I am sure he gets the young kids all excited about catholicism through his music and his 'street' speaking but the man is a fraud simply a promoter of catholicism which is a false Gospel!
I am 100% sure I will get negative votes, unfortunately. . .
I am supposed to expose 1000 lies in 500 words or less?
I will give you one for starts..
The Theory of transubstaniation is taken from misinterpreted Scripture and is now the controlling device of the masses throughout the gentile churches.
I can go on, but I will stop because I don't want to confuse anyone..
Salvation is all about repenting, believing and trusting in the Name of the Lord (personal faith with no idols)
I don't know much about the so called 'church fathers' writings. I have no desire to know the writings of 'gentile' men who seems to be made up by Rome to support their religion. The Old Covenant writings was written by the Holy Spirit through Hebrews and the New Covenant writings were written by The Holy Spirit through Messianic Jews. ADONAI only uses Hebrew blooded men to write His Word. I will never put my trust into writings 'outside' of Scripture, especially gentile pagan men from Rome.
The Fathers come from all across the Christian world, not just Rome.
Your emphasis on the *Jewish* writers is interesting. Do you reject Paul's teaching about there is no difference between Jew and Gentile because of Christ?
I'm guessing you assume St. Luke was Jewish too?
More importantly, if you don't trust anything outside Sacred Scripture, how do you know what actually counts as Sacred Scripture? Why trust John's Gospel as inspired scripture? Why can't I just discard James' epistle?
Were any of these so called 'fathers' Messianic or of Jewish descent? I do not reject any of Pauls writings or teachings, he was referring to the Jews and Gentiles IF they are 'in Christ'. It is a *process* to be 'in Christ'!
It is possible that Luke was a gentile, but he personally knew the Jewish Messiah and he was surrounded by Messianic Jews. If Luke was a gentile, then he was *chosen* to write part of the New Covenant writings. Compare Lukes writings to 'your fathers' writings.
I am supposed to test the Spirits of the preachers and writers, if it does not *line up* with Real Scripture then it is of satan the deceiver bringing a false message which will lead to false doctrine. Hence, sacraments and many many other pagan beliefs that *robe* the believer from ever receiving Grace.
You can discard anything you want, just make sure you are Born Again by the Blood of the Lamb before you perish.
and another thing, I don't even like using the term, 'Early Church Fathers' because the Disciples and Apostles ARE the Early Church Leaders and they were mainly Messianic Jews. The writings you SHOULD be reading are the New Covenant writings that are in the Bible because they are from the very beginning. To say that writings outside of the bible are the writings of the early church fathers is dangerous and deceptive because the Disciples are the 'fathers'.
You're entitled to your preferences, but the term "Early Church Fathers" is a pretty standard.
It's logical too - they were the leaders of the Church in its early years. How early? Clement of Rome wrote his letter to the Corinthians sometime before 96AD so John would still have been alive. Ignatius of Antioch wrote his letters around 107 AD.
I'm not asking that you consider their writings as Scripture but at least recognise their witness.
Testing everything against Sacred Scripture is indeed a good thing to do. However, you do first have to read something before you can test it, so I think reading some of the Fathers would be a good thing to do.
However, to read Scripture is to interpret Scripture. How do you know for certain your interpretation is correct?
Clement is said to be a pope. I do not believe in Papal Authority. NO WAY!! In fact, I rebuke it. and so would Peter who was a Messianic Jew and a True Disciple of Messiah Yeshua.
St. Ignatius stressed the value of the Eucharist, calling it a "medicine of immortality". This is an absolute lie!
Papal Rome has their filthy hands all over these writings.
The only way I would read these writings is to *expose* of them as being false writings that are not inspired by the Spirit of Truth
You find me a 'church father' who writes not of Pagan Roman Sacraments and the Authority of the Seat of the Papacy then I will be move than willing to talk.
Rome has no authority from heaven. You do know that Rome is Babylon, don't you?
Rome is the 4th Kingdom of Daniel 2 with a 5th Kingdom *coming out* of the 4th (feet of iron)
Daniel 7, the 4th Beast is the *process* of a 'little horn' rising out of Rome.
This sounds like "Find me somebody I agree with and then I'll listen". Is it possible that those who sat at the feet of the Apostles might perhaps have a better understanding of the faith than someone living 2000 years later?
I've heard the imagery in Daniel and Revelation applied to everything from Sadam Hussain to the EU. How do you know your interpretation is correct?
Also, I've asked it *twice* before and got no answer: If you only trust Scripture, how do you know what is Scripture?
Clement was the Bishop of Rome (96AD) and, as such, a Catholic would consider him Peter's successor and therefore Pope. This however shouldn't stop you at least reading him (1 Thes 5:21) as he may have things of value to say (Chapter 49 is gorgeous).
Ignatius was only continuing what had been said before him and what he had been taught by the Apostles. The Eucharist was important to Jesus (Lk 22), the first disciples (Acts 2:42) and Paul (1 Cor 11:27) & should therefore should be to us.
You said "Real Scripture is ...." and then only spoke about the books of the Old Covenant, not mentioning the NT and this surprised me, which is why I wrote "Matthew, Mark, Luke, ...". I'm assuming you do consider these part of the canon.
But again, if you "only trust Scripture" how do you know what actually is Scripture? Is there a divinely inspired table of contents? Who decides what's in and out and with what certainty can they be trusted?
You misread what I said, this is what I said, "Real Scripture is the Torah, Prophets (Books that Orthodox Jews recognize) and the New Covenant writings that Messianic Jews recognize"
This answers ALL of your Scripture questions. ADONAI is the God of the Scriptures, and the God of Isra'el and the Father of Yeshua.
You have to search for the Jewishness of your Savior, look and see how the Messianic Community Worships and Traditions they keep.
This is very imporortant that you understand this, The first 'churches' of Jerusalem were of Jews (Orthodox) who were Believers in Yeshua as being the Messiah. Believing in Yeshua was entirely yan internal Jewish matter in the very beginning. A Messianic Jew is someone who is 'called out by Grace.' While Orthodox Jews are still under Torah who don't believe Yeshua is the Messaiih. They will find out when He comes at His 2nd Coming.
Jesus is Yeshua the Jewish Savior, Lord, Messiah, Lamb of God
Scripture was given to us by the Jews. The traditions that are in the New Covenant writings are traditions that gentiles should observe. If a Messianic Jew would not observe one of your traditions, then it is not a 'real' tradition. For instance, the theory of transubstantiation is not the Jewish tradition of Breaking Bread. That is not what the Lord or the first churches taught. The 'gentile churches' of the Jewish Messiah have become so corruptible, I believe not many people are truly Saved!
You have much doubt on the authenticity of the Scriptures! Mark 10:27 Yeshua looked at them and said, "Humanly, it is impossible, but not with God; with God, every thing is possible."
I don't believe for one second the Roman Church had anything to do with putting together the Bible. If that is what you are trying to "get at". I know they make this claim, but they have also claimed that they hold upon this earth the power of God Almighty himself.
I still don't know what you believe though: Who assembled the canon? When? Why can I trust them?
And concerning the power of God on earth, the Bible is full of examples of God's power and glory being bestowed on and channelled through mere creatures. The judges of Israel were even called "elohiym"
A tradition is Wrong when it doesn't come from ADONAI.
Why would you want to keep a tradition of man when ADONAI never gave it?
What good will come from observing something ADONAI hates? Adonai is the God of this world, HE created it! So why would you want to keep a tradition that is not of Him?
It's all about Hearing the Word and Repenting and Receiving Grace and then ultimately Immersion. You seem to be advanced in false gentile traditions, like I said, many many people are.
Again you're saying things that I'm obviously not going to disagree with. Of course want *Sacred* Tradition - teaching given by Christ to His Apostles.
However, you said earlier that unless a Messianic Jew practised a tradition it wasn't "real". I asked *why*...
Piecing together your responses you seem to suggest that if a Messianic Jew does it then it must from the Lord. Is that what you believe? If so, why?
the Word of God is the PROOF that the first 'churches' did not teach Eucharistic Transubstantiation.
Like I said, you have to go and find the Jewishness of your Savior. What is 'Breaking Bread'? How do the Messianic Jews of today Break Bread? What are their interpretations of Scripture they use? What is the Passover? Did the Lord and His Disciples use 'unleaven' bread during the Breaking of Bread? What does unleaven represent? Why is the eucharistic wafer 'leavened' bread?
Your proof will be an *interpretation* of Scripture. Why should I trust your interpretation?
Jesus was indeed the Lamb of God. He was prefigured in Exodus where the lamb was killed, *eaten* and its blood put on the door posts. You see the same thing acted out from the Upper Room to Calvary.
Why should I care about what Messianic Jews today say? When was that interpretation of scripture first recorded? Surely the Apostles would have taught their disciples correctly?
Looking over our conversation, another important question still hasn't been answered:
Outside of the Bible, what is the first source you can provide which corresponds to your understanding of the Eucharist?
If your understanding is correct then there really should be some historical record which confirms this belief.
Like the previous question, all I want is a short answer - in this case a name and a date. I won't even comment on your answer - we'll leave it at that.
...one last thing. Since this is our last exchange I'll just suggest some resources:
1. The website "Association of Hebrew Catholics". There is a great series of MP3 talks on the Church Fathers.
2. The website "Salvation is from the Jews" by Roy Shoeman.
3. The book "The Crucified Rabbi" by Taylor Marshall.
I often listen to non-Catholic sources to glean what is of value and to make sure my faith stands up to the scrutiny of the challenges that are presented.
What's worrying here is that you didn't know that Roy is a Jew, making it clear that you responded even before looking at the websites...
Also, there continues an obstinacy to listen to anything from anybody with a contrary opinion to yourself. If you indeed have the truth then you have *nothing* to fear from testing it.
You also have yet to provide me with a citation for the first person who shares your view on the Eucharist to prove the historicity of your belief.
I am still learning Truth, I will always be learning Truth and Growing in my New Faith.
I am completely free from religion because I received Grace on April 8th 2007. I was baptized and raised in Roman Catholicism, I have doen everything I was told.
I was 32 years old when I received Grace for the first time in my life!
Knowing ADONAI through Faith in His Son is simply the most loving relationship one could possibly have.
The CJB is just a 1998 Bible translation . I asked who assembled the canon. *Who* decided that James' Epistle was Scripture and that the Shepherd of Hermas wasn't? *When* was this settled? *Why* did this person or group have authority to do this?
their are many "different' canons in circulation today. here I will say it, "the church of rome has one"
are you happy now?
I think the church of rome is sooo beyond corruption that they or roman authorities killed off the original churches and their writings, fabricated false disciples and created a world dominating religion.
look into the Quran, I am pretty sure the Jesuit priests created it!
Dude, your church is messed up! Everybody knows except their followers!
You didn't answer the question. Which of these "many different" canons do you affirm to be the Word of God? Who selected it, when and why trust it?
Because church history doesn't support your beliefs, you have to resort to conspiracy theories to explain the complete lack of evidence. It's interesting, however, that in your version of history, the Bible managed to remain "untouched" by the RCC. Surely a primary target?
You've answered which canon you follow, but not when it was assembled, by whom or by what authority.
Your "Scripture Test" is whether or not a present-day Messianic Jew recognises it. Why? What guarantee do you have that what a Messianic Jew today believes is Scripture is what the first Christians believed was Scripture?
Also, if I find someone that says they're a Messianic Jew but rejects James' epistle, is it Scripture? It's a silly question, but I wonder how you test orthodoxy of belief.
Yes, I'm born again (but we may each mean different things by that phrase)
I've been asking these same questions from the beginning because they get to the heart of the issue: what you trust and why. If you believe Luke's Gospel is inspired, why? Who said so and when? Why should you trust them? How do you know if you're interpreting the text in the way the first Christians did?
If you belong to a community which historically did this for the Church it shouldn't be hard to provide evidence.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by *Scriptural* Testimony. As for being born again, it happened when I "died with Christ in baptism" and was born again "of water and the Spirit".
In my journey of faith since that day I have drawn close to my Father, but also at times wandered away from the Lord. There have been some wonderful moments when His Spirit has drawn me back home and into a deeper relationship than before.
Anyway, this is all way off-topic. You were telling me about the canon...
If you are truly 'Born Again' you would have the Testimony of Jesus Christ *written* upon your heart. Actually, if you were 'Born Again' your Testimony would be *similar* to what the Disciples wrote about in the New Covenant writings *without* ever reading them.. meaning, if you were just recently *saved* and the fresh new heart you were just given would *Testify* with a *foundational* resemblence of the N.C. writings (without ever reading them). Were you *infant baptized*?
The Gospel was *first* written on their Hearts and then was *written* on some form of paper.
If you experienced Salvation without ever reading Scripture, the Gospel would ALSO be written on YOUR HEART and then the Scriptures would make *Crystal Clear* sense to you because you are now truly Born Again and Filled with the Holy Spirit.
I have to study and research more on the Canon, I honestly don't know!
Thank you very much for your honesty with regards to the canon. I'll be happy to continue that conversation when you have found an answer.
1 Peter 1 certainly mentions being born again, but I don't see how you reach your definition. Please explain more.
John 3 speaks of being "born of water and Spirit". How do you understand that phrase? Is verse 22 significant? How do you understand Rom 6:34 which I paraphrased earlier?
What do you see as the link between baptism and circumcision?
I ask questions because you won't "be taught Scripture by a Catholic". I'm therefore letting you teach me.
In a sentence, I'd say that the Gospel is the good news that while we were still sinners God became man and died in our place for our sins and this salvation is a free gift from God.
You are absolutely correct on that! lol I wasn't taught true Scripture when I was a catholic and I refuse to be taught false Scripture now that I am a sinner who IS SAVED BY GRACE!
your definition is 'good' but it is missing some very important key Scriptural components.
Like, for instance, when can you recieve this free gift?
It looks like somebody really did fail you in your original Catholic formation. If "sola gratia" (grace alone) isn't Catholicism 101, I don't know what is.
In fact, in my answer I was just paraphrasing the Catholic Catechism (#1722). This doctrine is also proclaimed in the liturgy - infants are baptised who clearly have no capacity to "do" anything for God - it's all about grace.
There is a difference between objections to Catholicism and objections to misconceptions of it...
In response to your rather unpleasant and unproductive email I will now no longer be continuing in this dialogue. However, if you still feel you have something to share, there are still many questions left unanswered over the course of this discussion for you to address. Shalom.
The most terrible thing you could do is paraphrase the catechism!
If you knew Scripture you would know that Repentance (turning away from Sin) and Believing (in the Savior) to WASH AWAY YOUR SINS is absolutely Necessary for Grace to take place and THEN be IMMERSED in water.
I can't help you can't see this, and that an INFANT can't do ANY of these things. I was infant sprinkled into catholicism, it did NOTHING, there is no GRACE on a HEART that CAN'T BELIEVE!
I am curious. How do you interpret John 6:54 and 1 Corinth. 11:27-29? Clearly Christ says (mind you, nowhere else in Scripture does Christ repeat Himself as much as He does throughout John 6 on the Living Bread) we must eat His body, then he reiterates this during the Last Supper. Before you rush into the Protestant answer that Jesus says "these words are of spirit," ask yourself why Christ would say something so unusual in the first place if He did not mean it!?
Actually, read the Acts of the apostles, the early Church dedicated itself to four things, prayer, the communal life, the breaking of the bread and the Techings of the Apostles, we continue this even today, 2000 years later.
@cheesemonkey1990 The teachings of the Apostle's was the foundation of the Messiah being crucified and resurrected and all the other basic fundamental beliefs that make up the core of the New Testament. It's obvious by the implication and context of that Scripture in Acts.
If the meaning of Scripture becomes crystal clear, does this mean that all the different denominations are not born again because they do not share the *same* crystal clear sense of Scripture?
Also, if being born again means that the Scriptures become crystal clear, why are teachers and bible commentaries needed?
I apologize, ADONAI is not the God of this world... the Adversary and his demons are!
Adonai created it, His Knowledge is inside of you.. the very spirit that gives you life, He gave to you.. but the Adversary confuses the Truth of ADONAI and His Word so that people never come to repenetance and Grace.
It all started in creation, ADONAI cursed the human spirit because SIN entered the world.
HE IS HOLY, you must Repent and be Born Again by HIS Grace inorder to have SIN removed!
BELIVING in Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) is the ONLY way for He, Himself says "I AM the Way -- and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except through me" John 14:6
At the very beginning sure, but even by Acts 10 you have Cornelius and his household being baptised. Even though the Church was initially predominantly Jewish, it grew much faster in Gentile areas, especially after 70AD and the Jewish council of Jamnia where the Rabbis expelled the Christians.
"First the Jew, then the gentile". Paul discusses all this in Romans 11.
I do not see in Acts 10 where Peter immersed Cornelius and his household.
I do see Peter was Preaching the Gospel to a multitude of gentile Believers and the Holy Spirit fell on them causing to to speak in tongues and praising ADONAI. You see the Holy Spirit *convicts* hearts to repent and believe by *hearing* the Word of God Preached.
They *received* the Holy Spirit and THEN they were Immersed.
Hear the Word, Repent, Believe and then be Immersed. 'Christianity' is all twisted today!
Oops, sorry, you're quite right. I did misread it.
I'm not hugely sure what point you're trying to make talking again about "the Jewishness of your Savior". I doubt you'll find anyone here who doubts the pivotal role of the Jews in salvation history and the importance of reading the New Testament in light of the Old (and vice-versa).
it also has to do with Jewish Tradition because an astronomical percentage of 'gentiles' who Believe in Jesus are *stuck* in gentile tradion that has paganism roots.
Its very deceptive!
Roman Catholicism plays the gentile church monster that sucks life and grace from the Believer.
That is why I say, find the Jewishness of your Savior because you will find Truth, Life and Grace..
Wow! This is the kind of teaching that grabs me and doesn't let me turn away. The kind that my ears receive with out a struggle. So powerful and poetic. Can't wait to hear the rest of the series. Thank you Fr. Stan
I had just got in the habit recently of saying to people who feel socially discouraged that if people misunderstand you remember you were created in the image and likeness of mystery...thank you for the confirmation.

In any case, the Bible is a library of books
from many different genres.
It makes sense when you realise that it is not always supposed to read
literally, and that it can be understood consistently.
I believe in evolution, it doesn't contradict the Bible. Creationists have done so much damage to us.
Genesis was never meant to be a geologic or biologic record of creation.

BorisG7 7 months ago 4

You have been brainwashed by your beliefs.

why people suffer? - RELIGION!
ohsnap31 1 year ago
@ohsnap31 Thats extremely arrogant... since religion means the Binding Truth God has revealed about himself.. to deny religion, is to deny who God is.. TRUE religion is to "love God with all your mind, all your heart, and all your strenght"... So a relationship with God without religion is technically impossible since you deny the truths about God when you deny religion.. its not either or, but both and!! You need both religion and relationship which are made to be taken with eachother.
dcrippen2000 8 months ago
@dcrippen2000 SERIOUSLY? Friend, your God is so obviously man-made it's ridiculous. Nevertheless, you believe anything your told that makes you feel good. Stop feeling and use your brain. The truth is you are brainwashed. God is the adult version of Santa Clause. To believe a personal God listens to prayers like a genie and he interferes with our lives is so detached from factual reality. Every culture has its God(s). They all cant be right but they all can be wrong. They all fail.
ohsnap31 8 months ago
@ohsnap31 You fail. None of the Abrahamic religions can be so easily debunked. These three believe in a much different deity than any before or since.
Pantheism can be put down very simply.
And the other creation myths have deities who created the world form things which already existed in the world.
The god of Abraham(That is the Judeo-Christian-Muslim god) is the only one which fits into the "not so easily debunked" category.
bcharville 8 months ago
@ohsnap31 nooo.. every culture has its own God because we can know his existence by human reason.. However, thats all we can know.. All religions besides Christianity are wrong because they all started with the same basic truth and then built human ideas into it.. Christianity didn't do that because God came and revealed himself and, consequently, his religion to us. Otherwise, it is impossible to discover God's supernatural religion without him relealing it himself. This is why were right.
dcrippen2000 8 months ago
@ohsnap31 And that is also why it is illogical to compare Christianity to other religions because the others were created by men and the other, by God..
dcrippen2000 8 months ago
@dcrippen2000 Let me let you in on a little secret. "God" revealed himself to the believers of Zeus, Native American Gods, Mohammed, etc. I know you are an atheist when it comes to all the other religions. You do not believe that it was actually God although those people were 100 % sure it was. I do not blame you. They have no evidence. The stories are silly and make no rational sense, kinda like the bible. I just go a step further and include your BS religion as well.

Christian3269 2 years ago
"Repenting, believing and trusting in the Name of the Lord"
Yeah, all good stuff - I doubt you'll hear any disagreements here.
Have you read any of the early church fathers at all? Ignatius of Antioch? Ireneus? Justin Martyr?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
I don't know much about the so called 'church fathers' writings. I have no desire to know the writings of 'gentile' men who seems to be made up by Rome to support their religion. The Old Covenant writings was written by the Holy Spirit through Hebrews and the New Covenant writings were written by The Holy Spirit through Messianic Jews. ADONAI only uses Hebrew blooded men to write His Word. I will never put my trust into writings 'outside' of Scripture, especially gentile pagan men from Rome.
Christian3269 2 years ago
The Fathers come from all across the Christian world, not just Rome.
Your emphasis on the *Jewish* writers is interesting. Do you reject Paul's teaching about there is no difference between Jew and Gentile because of Christ?
I'm guessing you assume St. Luke was Jewish too?
More importantly, if you don't trust anything outside Sacred Scripture, how do you know what actually counts as Sacred Scripture? Why trust John's Gospel as inspired scripture? Why can't I just discard James' epistle?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
Were any of these so called 'fathers' Messianic or of Jewish descent? I do not reject any of Pauls writings or teachings, he was referring to the Jews and Gentiles IF they are 'in Christ'. It is a *process* to be 'in Christ'!
It is possible that Luke was a gentile, but he personally knew the Jewish Messiah and he was surrounded by Messianic Jews. If Luke was a gentile, then he was *chosen* to write part of the New Covenant writings. Compare Lukes writings to 'your fathers' writings.
Christian3269 2 years ago
I am supposed to test the Spirits of the preachers and writers, if it does not *line up* with Real Scripture then it is of satan the deceiver bringing a false message which will lead to false doctrine. Hence, sacraments and many many other pagan beliefs that *robe* the believer from ever receiving Grace.
You can discard anything you want, just make sure you are Born Again by the Blood of the Lamb before you perish.
Christian3269 2 years ago
and another thing, I don't even like using the term, 'Early Church Fathers' because the Disciples and Apostles ARE the Early Church Leaders and they were mainly Messianic Jews. The writings you SHOULD be reading are the New Covenant writings that are in the Bible because they are from the very beginning. To say that writings outside of the bible are the writings of the early church fathers is dangerous and deceptive because the Disciples are the 'fathers'.
Christian3269 2 years ago
You're entitled to your preferences, but the term "Early Church Fathers" is a pretty standard.
It's logical too - they were the leaders of the Church in its early years. How early? Clement of Rome wrote his letter to the Corinthians sometime before 96AD so John would still have been alive. Ignatius of Antioch wrote his letters around 107 AD.
I'm not asking that you consider their writings as Scripture but at least recognise their witness.
DarthMambo 2 years ago
Testing everything against Sacred Scripture is indeed a good thing to do. However, you do first have to read something before you can test it, so I think reading some of the Fathers would be a good thing to do.
However, to read Scripture is to interpret Scripture. How do you know for certain your interpretation is correct?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
So Luke could have been Gentile and being "in Christ" is more important than ethnicity? Why all the gentile/jewish rhetoric then?
If you ever actually read the Fathers you'll see how soaked in Scripture they are.
Back to my original question: if you don't trust anything outside Sacred Scripture, how do you know what actually counts as Sacred Scripture?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
Clement is said to be a pope. I do not believe in Papal Authority. NO WAY!! In fact, I rebuke it. and so would Peter who was a Messianic Jew and a True Disciple of Messiah Yeshua.
St. Ignatius stressed the value of the Eucharist, calling it a "medicine of immortality". This is an absolute lie!
Papal Rome has their filthy hands all over these writings.
The only way I would read these writings is to *expose* of them as being false writings that are not inspired by the Spirit of Truth
Christian3269 2 years ago
You find me a 'church father' who writes not of Pagan Roman Sacraments and the Authority of the Seat of the Papacy then I will be move than willing to talk.
Rome has no authority from heaven. You do know that Rome is Babylon, don't you?
Rome is the 4th Kingdom of Daniel 2 with a 5th Kingdom *coming out* of the 4th (feet of iron)
Daniel 7, the 4th Beast is the *process* of a 'little horn' rising out of Rome.
This little horn is Vicarius Filii Dei
I will stick with Real Scripture!
Christian3269 2 years ago
This sounds like "Find me somebody I agree with and then I'll listen". Is it possible that those who sat at the feet of the Apostles might perhaps have a better understanding of the faith than someone living 2000 years later?
I've heard the imagery in Daniel and Revelation applied to everything from Sadam Hussain to the EU. How do you know your interpretation is correct?
Also, I've asked it *twice* before and got no answer: If you only trust Scripture, how do you know what is Scripture?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
Clement was the Bishop of Rome (96AD) and, as such, a Catholic would consider him Peter's successor and therefore Pope. This however shouldn't stop you at least reading him (1 Thes 5:21) as he may have things of value to say (Chapter 49 is gorgeous).
Ignatius was only continuing what had been said before him and what he had been taught by the Apostles. The Eucharist was important to Jesus (Lk 22), the first disciples (Acts 2:42) and Paul (1 Cor 11:27) & should therefore should be to us.
DarthMambo 2 years ago
Real Scripture is the Torah, Prophets (Books that Orthodox Jews recognize) and the New Covenant writings that Messianic Jews recognize.
In other words, the Complete Word of God that was given to the faithful.
Pick yourself up a Complete Jewish Bible and learn the Word of ADONAI through Messianic Jews.
We are in the end times and the Real 'Church' is rising rapidly. Church means, 'called out' that is by Grace.
Christian3269 2 years ago
So Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Romans, ...?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
I do not know what you are referring to. . .
Christian3269 2 years ago
You said "Real Scripture is ...." and then only spoke about the books of the Old Covenant, not mentioning the NT and this surprised me, which is why I wrote "Matthew, Mark, Luke, ...". I'm assuming you do consider these part of the canon.
But again, if you "only trust Scripture" how do you know what actually is Scripture? Is there a divinely inspired table of contents? Who decides what's in and out and with what certainty can they be trusted?
Did Paul teach scripture alone?
2 Thes 2:15
DarthMambo 2 years ago
You misread what I said, this is what I said, "Real Scripture is the Torah, Prophets (Books that Orthodox Jews recognize) and the New Covenant writings that Messianic Jews recognize"
This answers ALL of your Scripture questions. ADONAI is the God of the Scriptures, and the God of Isra'el and the Father of Yeshua.
You have to search for the Jewishness of your Savior, look and see how the Messianic Community Worships and Traditions they keep.
Christian3269 2 years ago
Paul did not teach Scripture alone, but you must first HEAR the Gospel of Salvation to receive FAITH to REPENT.
Paul is referring to the 'church' that is already 'in Christ'. He is referring to the people who have already been 'called out by Grace.'
2 Thes 2:15 Therefore, brothers, stand firm; and hold to the traditions you were taught by us, whether we spoke them or wrote them in a letter.
Paul was a Pharisee who persecuted the 'Messianic Jews' until he was 'called out' by Grace.
Christian3269 2 years ago
This is very imporortant that you understand this, The first 'churches' of Jerusalem were of Jews (Orthodox) who were Believers in Yeshua as being the Messiah. Believing in Yeshua was entirely yan internal Jewish matter in the very beginning. A Messianic Jew is someone who is 'called out by Grace.' While Orthodox Jews are still under Torah who don't believe Yeshua is the Messaiih. They will find out when He comes at His 2nd Coming.
Jesus is Yeshua the Jewish Savior, Lord, Messiah, Lamb of God
Christian3269 2 years ago
Scripture was given to us by the Jews. The traditions that are in the New Covenant writings are traditions that gentiles should observe. If a Messianic Jew would not observe one of your traditions, then it is not a 'real' tradition. For instance, the theory of transubstantiation is not the Jewish tradition of Breaking Bread. That is not what the Lord or the first churches taught. The 'gentile churches' of the Jewish Messiah have become so corruptible, I believe not many people are truly Saved!
Christian3269 2 years ago
Who decided what was and what was not part of the New Testament canon? When? Why can I trust them?
Why is a tradition immediately wrong if a Messianic Jew doesn't observe it? Being Jewish doesn't automatically make them right.
What proof do you have that the first churches didn't teach the Real Presence? All the Church Father certainly did.
As for Jesus, "For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink...this is my body...this is my blood".
DarthMambo 2 years ago
You have much doubt on the authenticity of the Scriptures! Mark 10:27 Yeshua looked at them and said, "Humanly, it is impossible, but not with God; with God, every thing is possible."
I don't believe for one second the Roman Church had anything to do with putting together the Bible. If that is what you are trying to "get at". I know they make this claim, but they have also claimed that they hold upon this earth the power of God Almighty himself.
You can not believe ANYTHING they say!
Christian3269 2 years ago
I still don't know what you believe though: Who assembled the canon? When? Why can I trust them?
And concerning the power of God on earth, the Bible is full of examples of God's power and glory being bestowed on and channelled through mere creatures. The judges of Israel were even called "elohiym"
DarthMambo 2 years ago
A tradition is Wrong when it doesn't come from ADONAI.
Why would you want to keep a tradition of man when ADONAI never gave it?
What good will come from observing something ADONAI hates? Adonai is the God of this world, HE created it! So why would you want to keep a tradition that is not of Him?
It's all about Hearing the Word and Repenting and Receiving Grace and then ultimately Immersion. You seem to be advanced in false gentile traditions, like I said, many many people are.
Christian3269 2 years ago
Again you're saying things that I'm obviously not going to disagree with. Of course want *Sacred* Tradition - teaching given by Christ to His Apostles.
However, you said earlier that unless a Messianic Jew practised a tradition it wasn't "real". I asked *why*...
Piecing together your responses you seem to suggest that if a Messianic Jew does it then it must from the Lord. Is that what you believe? If so, why?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
the Word of God is the PROOF that the first 'churches' did not teach Eucharistic Transubstantiation.
Christian3269 2 years ago
Your proof will be an *interpretation* of Scripture. Why should I trust your interpretation?
Jesus was indeed the Lamb of God. He was prefigured in Exodus where the lamb was killed, *eaten* and its blood put on the door posts. You see the same thing acted out from the Upper Room to Calvary.
Why should I care about what Messianic Jews today say? When was that interpretation of scripture first recorded? Surely the Apostles would have taught their disciples correctly?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
There is alot of information that I am not going to address.
Here are some *key* points for you to realize.
1. The first churches were Messianic. Meaning they *did not* break Torah to establish a tradition.
2. The SPIRIT (presence) of the Lord can not be in anything. That would be called an idol or false god.
3. We are not supposed to eat *god* we are suppose to Worship in Spirit and Truth because He Is Holy and Worthy.
Worship *requires* submission in your heart!
thats all 4 now
Christian3269 2 years ago
Before you go I really would like to know, in your opinion, when the canon was established, by whom and your reason for trusting them.
It's the main question I've been trying to get you to answer all along.
DarthMambo 2 years ago
Looking over our conversation, another important question still hasn't been answered:
Outside of the Bible, what is the first source you can provide which corresponds to your understanding of the Eucharist?
If your understanding is correct then there really should be some historical record which confirms this belief.
Like the previous question, all I want is a short answer - in this case a name and a date. I won't even comment on your answer - we'll leave it at that.
DarthMambo 2 years ago
...one last thing.
DarthMambo 2 years ago
it doesn't have to be our last conversation!
1. I don't believe there are Hebrew Catholics. Atleast the are not real Hebrews. Hebrews don't *eat* their god!
2. if Roy is a gentile who practices croman catholicism, the no thanks! :)
3. same as above for Taylor!
You should get yourself a copy of the CJB and learn some Hebrew. The first churches of the Messiah were, infact, of Messianic people. . .
Christian3269 2 years ago
What's worrying here is that you didn't know that Roy is a Jew, making it clear that you responded even before looking at the websites...
Also, there continues an obstinacy to listen to anything from anybody with a contrary opinion to yourself. If you indeed have the truth then you have *nothing* to fear from testing it.
You also have yet to provide me with a citation for the first person who shares your view on the Eucharist to prove the historicity of your belief.
DarthMambo 2 years ago
just letting you know, I am not interested in a gentile teaching me Scripture especially if he is a practicing catholic.

There are many Bible canons in circulation.
I put my trust in the Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) because the Orthodox Jews study the Tanahk and the Messianic Jews *wrote* the New Covenant Writings.
The bible that you have, like mine before my CJB, is interpretated through *Gentile* eyes. The CJB is interpreted through *Messianic Jewish* eyes.
It is very interesting!
Christian3269 2 years ago
The CJB is just a 1998 Bible translation . I asked who assembled the canon. *Who* decided that James' Epistle was Scripture and that the Shepherd of Hermas wasn't? *When* was this settled? *Why* did this person or group have authority to do this?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
their are many "different' canons in circulation today. here I will say it, "the church of rome has one"
are you happy now?
I think the church of rome is sooo beyond corruption that they or roman authorities killed off the original churches and their writings, fabricated false disciples and created a world dominating religion.
look into the Quran, I am pretty sure the Jesuit priests created it!
Dude, your church is messed up! Everybody knows except their followers!
it's sad!
Christian3269 2 years ago
You didn't answer the question. Which of these "many different" canons do you affirm to be the Word of God? Who selected it, when and why trust it?
Because church history doesn't support your beliefs, you have to resort to conspiracy theories to explain the complete lack of evidence. It's interesting, however, that in your version of history, the Bible managed to remain "untouched" by the RCC. Surely a primary target?
Speaking of messed up....

I put my trust in the The Tanakh (Old Covenant writings of the still present Torah) 24 Books
and the New Covenant writings that the Messianic Jews recognize. 27 Books
51 Books in all + the Book of Enoch
If a Messianic Jew doesn't recognize it, then neither do I...
Got it? :)
Christian3269 2 years ago
You've answered which canon you follow, but not when it was assembled, by whom or by what authority.
Your "Scripture Test" is whether or not a present-day Messianic Jew recognises it. Why? What guarantee do you have that what a Messianic Jew today believes is Scripture is what the first Christians believed was Scripture?
Also, if I find someone that says they're a Messianic Jew but rejects James' epistle, is it Scripture? It's a silly question, but I wonder how you test orthodoxy of belief.
DarthMambo 2 years ago
What is your point of all of this?
and are you Born Again through the Blood of the Jewish Messiah?
Christian3269 2 years ago
Yes, I'm born again (but we may each mean different things by that phrase)
I've been asking these same questions from the beginning because they get to the heart of the issue: what you trust and why. If you believe Luke's Gospel is inspired, why? Who said so and when? Why should you trust them? How do you know if you're interpreting the text in the way the first Christians did?
If you belong to a community which historically did this for the Church it shouldn't be hard to provide evidence.
DarthMambo 2 years ago
When were you Born Again by the Blood of the Jewish Messiah?
What happened?
If you are truly Born Again, then you will have the Holy Spirit and the Testimony of Yeshua written upon your heart.
Please give you testimony!
Christian3269 2 years ago
Can you give a Scriptural Testimony?
you can send a private message if you would like. .
Christian3269 2 years ago
I'm not quite sure what you mean by *Scriptural* Testimony. As for being born again, it happened when I "died with Christ in baptism" and was born again "of water and the Spirit".
In my journey of faith since that day I have drawn close to my Father, but also at times wandered away from the Lord. There have been some wonderful moments when His Spirit has drawn me back home and into a deeper relationship than before.
Anyway, this is all way off-topic. You were telling me about the canon...
DarthMambo 2 years ago
If you are truly 'Born Again' you would have the Testimony of Jesus Christ *written* upon your heart. Actually, if you were 'Born Again' your Testimony would be *similar* to what the Disciples wrote about in the New Covenant writings *without* ever reading them.. meaning, if you were just recently *saved* and the fresh new heart you were just given would *Testify* with a *foundational* resemblence of the N.C. writings (without ever reading them). Were you *infant baptized*?
Christian3269 2 years ago
How did you reach this definition about being born again?
And my questions about the canon still go answered...
DarthMambo 2 years ago
All of 1 Peter 1 and many other verses!
What do you think the Gospel is?
The Gospel was *first* written on their Hearts and then was *written* on some form of paper.
If you experienced Salvation without ever reading Scripture, the Gospel would ALSO be written on YOUR HEART and then the Scriptures would make *Crystal Clear* sense to you because you are now truly Born Again and Filled with the Holy Spirit.
I have to study and research more on the Canon, I honestly don't know!
Christian3269 2 years ago
Thank you very much for your honesty with regards to the canon. I'll be happy to continue that conversation when you have found an answer.
1 Peter 1 certainly mentions being born again, but I don't see how you reach your definition. Please explain more.
John 3 speaks of being "born of water and Spirit". How do you understand that phrase? Is verse 22 significant? How do you understand Rom 6:34 which I paraphrased earlier?
What do you see as the link between baptism and circumcision?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
You ask alot of questions!
before I go any further, please answer the one question I asked.
What do you think the Gospel is?
Christian3269 2 years ago
I ask questions because you won't "be taught Scripture by a Catholic". I'm therefore letting you teach me.
In a sentence, I'd say that the Gospel is the good news that while we were still sinners God became man and died in our place for our sins and this salvation is a free gift from God.
DarthMambo 2 years ago

YOU NEED FAITH TO RECEIVE!!!

@Christian3269 Hi!
Before you rush into the Protestant answer that Jesus says "these words are of spirit," ask yourself why Christ would say something so unusual in the first place if He did not mean it!?

we need more than any and all of the 5 solos of the reformation. We need those things, but we need a lot more than that.
cheesemonkey1990 2 years ago
@cheesemonkey1990 Really?! Sola Scriptura? Sola Fide?
Scripture, yes.
Faith, yes.
Sola, no.
DarthMambo 2 years ago
Actually, read the Acts of the apostles, the early Church dedicated itself to four things, prayer, the communal life, the breaking of the bread and the Techings of the Apostles, we continue this even today, 2000 years later.
cheesemonkey1990 2 years ago 3
@cheesemonkey1990 The teachings of the Apostle's was the foundation of the Messiah being crucified and resurrected and all the other basic fundamental beliefs that make up the core of the New Testament. It's obvious by the implication and context of that Scripture in Acts.

the good news about Jesus Christ and his message.

If the meaning of Scripture becomes crystal clear, does this mean that all the different denominations are not born again because they do not share the *same* crystal clear sense of Scripture?
Also, if being born again means that the Scriptures become crystal clear, why are teachers and bible commentaries needed?

If you truly want to know where the concept of eucharistic transubstantiation derives from then you have to look for a pagan god called, Dionysus!
Christian3269 2 years ago

Christian3269 2 years ago
At the very beginning sure, but even by Acts 10 you have Cornelius and his household being baptised. Even though the Church was initially predominantly Jewish, it grew much faster in Gentile areas, especially after 70AD and the Jewish council of Jamnia where the Rabbis expelled the Christians.
"First the Jew, then the gentile". Paul discusses all this in Romans 11.
DarthMambo 2 years ago
I do not see in Acts 10 where Peter immersed Cornelius and his household.
I do see Peter was Preaching the Gospel to a multitude of gentile Believers and the Holy Spirit fell on them causing to to speak in tongues and praising ADONAI. You see the Holy Spirit *convicts* hearts to repent and believe by *hearing* the Word of God Preached.
They *received* the Holy Spirit and THEN they were Immersed.
Hear the Word, Repent, Believe and then be Immersed. 'Christianity' is all twisted today!
Christian3269 2 years ago
If Paul didn't teach it then why do you trust only Scripture?
DarthMambo 2 years ago
Oops, sorry, you're quite right. I did misread it.
I'm not hugely sure what point you're trying to make talking again about "the Jewishness of your Savior". I doubt you'll find anyone here who doubts the pivotal role of the Jews in salvation history and the importance of reading the New Testament in light of the Old (and vice-versa).
DarthMambo 2 years ago
it also has to do with Jewish Tradition because an astronomical percentage of 'gentiles' who Believe in Jesus are *stuck* in gentile tradion that has paganism roots.
Its very deceptive!
Roman Catholicism plays the gentile church monster that sucks life and grace from the Believer.
That is why I say, find the Jewishness of your Savior because you will find Truth, Life and Grace..
It's a warning and enouragement :)
Shalom!

You're right, he speaks in a very real, down to earth way, with fire. I have a Fr Stan playlist, so I will definitely add these ''suffering'' vids.
