  • Padded horses are padded because they CANNOT gait naturally. That's how the padded horse originated. . .they were the pacey horses that were not as naturally talented. The only way they could "compete" against horses with a better natural gait was to pad them and weight them. Soon the "flashy" show horses started getting the attention. . .to the point where now people think that's what a TWH is "supposed to be." Big Lick horses are useless outside of a well-groomed show ring.

  • You are a complete idiot and have absolutely no idea what you are talking about or about any horse at all.

  • continued....but if "Big Lick" horses are shown correctly with out burning artificial aids, then the horse is prefectly fine, the pad do not hurt them and the chain around the fetlock can not weigh more than 6 ounces so they are not being hurt, its just like wearing high heels..... the horse is performing its natural born gait its just a little more flashy and funner to watch.

  • i love tennessee walking horse, but not with the big horse shoes!!!it's not natural!!!i feel sorry for the horses!!!

  • The gold horse in this class is Champagne Watchout. He met the minimum requirements to show in this class (1/2" pads and bellboots). His owners had to sue to be allowed in 1999 world grand champion performance class.

  • i love that walking horse :) i read about him in a magazine. he dose "walking horse dressage".

i think he is what EVERY walker should be built like!

  • I have a simple question. If the TWH is so naturally gaited why have the people involved in training them made the breed into such a 'freak show'? Gait can be bred for and achieved naturally. Just look at the Peruvian Pasos, Paso Finos, Icelandics and many other gaited breeds. They are every bit as animated as the TWH but they are that way through selective breeding and patient training. Their gaits are not achieved through cruelty and freakish training methods. This is not natural. Poor Horse.

  • paddedwalkers are not freakshows.TWH's are naturally gaited and the padded horses are not harmed from the padded shoes.the it is only cruel is when soring is involved.they are just expressing their natural gait and beauty in a different way.TWH trainers do use selective breeding when breeding or buying

padded horses.also I honestly I dont think u realise that it takes hard work and paitence it takes to train TWH weather they are flat shod or padded expecialy when ur training 4 the show ring.

  • whoa, is that Gin & Juice?

  • uhh LOL

  • i like padded horses. flatshod is great too, but i'm not for one or the other. my opinion is shoe them whichever way makes em perform best, because they look great in a true 4 beat running walk but it makes me grimace to see a pacing horse in a flatshod class.

  • I am not a padded horse fan but the champagne horse aint much for a flat shorse to me.

  • I agree. The champagne horse moves like my sister's gelding, which is why he is a gelding. In other words, he's nothing spectacular.

  • grow up and stop abusing these beautiful animals.. i was there and i had to laevae after 5 minutes.. i was in tears.. you sick ppl need to get a life..

  • Maybe so,but the flat shod horse certainly did travel nicely and looked like a real HORSE gaiting should look,IMO.

  • the gold horse(buckskin) isn't padded up, there's nothing wrong with how it moves!!!!

  • All the horses in high heels say, "What's wrong with that gold horse? He doesn't move right."

  • We got there late. I got out of the car as they announced the horses coming in the stake class. I got into position to shoot right about this point. I remember thinking, "Is that horse flat shod? What the *^%?" If the lady wanted to waste her money and look silly by showing a flat shod in this class, that was fine with me, but she seemed to get in the other horses way, which was my only real complaint.

  • What are you saying? The WGC *HAS TO BE* on stacks and doing the Big Lick?

Got in the way? The BL horses have to stay alongside the wall, in order to move straight. The flatshod horse was out in the middle. In the way? Of what?

The mindset of WGC has to look like a spider on high heels and chains, with whites of the eyes showing is WRONG!

  • Freakish, horrible, making beautiful horses 'perform' in this way - by the use of pain - disgusting, the horses look crippled, or they sure will be after this type of abuse.

  • USDA had VMOs on site to enforce the Horse Protection Act. They rejected one horse out of the bunch that showed for inspection. They then approved all the horses that required post show inspection. They found no evidence of scaring, foreign, prohibited or caustic substance on the horse, pressure shoeing, or anything else.

  • Only in America, wendallan, Only in America could or would this happen.
