  • thanks for watching...all the best with your playing!

    dale

  • Great Job !! i have seen most of your videos not seen a bad one yet !!

  • sure appreciate the kind post and thanks for giving your time to check out the vids!

    all the best,

    dale

  • oooops! THOUGHT THIS WAS A JUSTIN BIEBER TUTORIAL!

  • sorry to disappoint...

  • @tonedr LOL JUST KIDDING, GREAT LESSON!

  • appreciate you checking out....keep rockin!!

  • Great Lesson. However, if you look at the live videos the chorus chords are played starting with the root on the fifth string at the 12th fret. The timber sounds correct too. Cheers.

  • thanks for watching!

  • Hi Dale, Another great lesson, simple song to learn, -but you gotta get that rhythm just right! one thing I have found watching this, and your other tutorial videos,is you always seem to get the sound of your guitar just right for what your playing/teaching at the time, good work, all the best, Iain.

  • hello friend....the kind post is greatly appreciated! This is such a great tune and the bass part is killer - i agree 100% the right hand is just as important as the left on the intro or sig riff. Hope all is great and keep rocking,

    dale

  • Thank you soo much! Would you do a tutorial of ACDC's version of Messin' with the Kid. Best!!!!

  • appreciate the kind post...i'll give it a listen!

    peace,

    dale

  • ToneDR, you're a good soul. Rockers everywhere are forever grateful.

  • sure appreciate you giving this a look and your kind post is greatly appreciated!

    peace,

    dale

  • Great tutorial. You could let some of the delay go, though. Awesome, though cos so few guitarists know the right way to play this. On the single, there's two guitars, one plays it one way, the other does it using a different chord on the strumming part of the main lick. Hate when i hear guitarists play it wrong or get it confused with the intro to Rockin me Baby by Steve Miller, who TOTALLY ripped it off. Keep up the good work Doctor!

  • thanks for your kind words and i appreciate the post! All the best with your playing,

    dale

  • Thrush you are a Jerk and a pissy little winer. I was pumped when i saw that Tonedr had a lesson out on this song. All his lessons are incredibly helpful and they make learning these songs easy. If you need someone to put you fingers on the guitar and can't learn anything from a lesson like this the ask your mommy for your allowance and go pay someone to teach you this song!!

  • If the dictionary were made of sounds instead of words, I think this tune would correspond the ROCK word.

    Nice Axe btw!

  • agreed! Thanks for your post and keep on rockin,

    dale

  • Good lesson thanks. I've heard a lot of interpretations of the song and I think you nailed it at least to my ear. Thanks for showing all of it, I always knew I was missing part of the lick. Appreciated.

    Don

  • really appreciate you checking this out and thanks for the kind feedback....all the best with your music!

    dale

  • Thank you, tonedr... I've been trying to get that third measure right since 1975. Honestly. I've managed ways to fake it good enough to fool most people, but still, I always knew I was faking it. But tonight I have a big smile on my face!

  • thanks for your kind feedback and for watching the video....all the best with your music!

    dale

  • Toner thanks for your great lesson...I played this song in many slightly different ways over the years confused by the Steve Miller version of keep on a rocking me baby where the riff is played slightly differently.....with your tutorial I have put in place the last say 20% that remained outstanding...thanks again and keep them coming!!!!!.)

  • Thanks for your kind post.....greatly appreciated! Thanks for using the videos & I wish you all the best with your music!! dale

  • As always a "Masterpiece" of a lesson....l love how you throw in some alternate positions etc...excellent stuff and one of my all time favorite songs....if only I could sing like Paul Rogers.....

  • hey I'm with you....if I could sing like PR i'd sell all my guitars!! My fave rock voice & he stills sounds awesome..thanks for your kind post!

    dale

  • Great Video man!

  • sure appreciate your watching - all the best with your music!

    dale

  • I would like to thank you for this professional tutorial

  • hello.....thanks for your kind words......very appreciated and also for giving your time to watch. All the very best with your music!

    dale

  • I tend to play it with my little finger on the 4th fret high E string

  • 5th fret high E maybe??

  • @tonedr Haha please exuse my lack of knowledge of knowing simple things such as counting frets :P yes it is 5th high E

  • hi Dale, to simulate the overdub I just added my pinky to the 5th fret high E-string to the A5 powerchord, and you can apply this to all chords. Are you going to do "Fire and water" as well, I can send you the pro TABS from my songbook. I should have the backing track without lead guitar as well, somewhere..... Kind regards, Janet

  • good stuff.....thanks! I have been asked that a few times and honestly i'm not familiar with that tune but it must be great! Thanks for your offer & if i work it up i'll take you up on it!

    peace,

    dale

  • Excellent mate THE best cover I've seen yet of this classic you've got that dirty Kossoff tone down to a tee , very impressive and a great tutorial to follow keep up the good work.

  • really appreciate your kind feedback and taking your time to check out the video! Long live PK and this great music......best,

    dale

  • hi Dale, me again ;-) Again a wonderul tutorial and 100% correct. A classic example of the use of powerchords. Though in the mix of the original record you can hear that Paul ( Kossoff ) added the high notes of the powerchords in an overdub, and probably there were in total two guitar overdubs on the studio recording. It can clearly be heard by listening to live recordings, they simply sound "thinner" than the studio recording. Your playing has Paul's famous "bite" ;-) , Kind Regards, Janet

  • hello Janet, let me say again how much i appreciate your kind post and taking the time to do so!! Great info in this post and much appreciated.....thanks for your kind words - let's keep the good stuff goin!

    dale

  • Please give me a time mark - I'll let you know.

  • @tonedr 0.36 could you give me the name of the chord please too

  • @ .36 I'm back to the A chord I start with:

    open A string/2nd fret D & G strings

  • @tonedr the chord after

  • It's a D with A bass - I explain all chords later in the video - all the best with your music!

can you give me the settings on the amplifier?

    what amp do you use?

  • It's a Headstrong Lil King (Princeton clone) volume 2 - bass - 6ish - treble 7ish - bit of verb - Fulldrive 2 - thanks for watching!

  • @tonedr thanks buddy ill try it :)

  • Great posts! Am I missing something though? Why don't you just stay in the "A" grip and lift your first finger instead of moving up the neck to position two...hope this question makes sense.

  • sure appreciate you taking time to watch! makes sense and it would definately work well that way - i guess for me, for some odd reason, i just am used to changing postions - very good point you make though!

    all the best,

    dale

    dale

  • I agree with bobgure. Love the tone. Could you let us all know what rig you're using and what effects pedal, settings etc etc. A good dose of gain through a cranked low wattage valve amp maybe??

  • I'm running the Collings I-35 into an Exotic booster rolling off a bit of highs and adding a touch of gain (1 o'clock) then to Fulldrive 2 full overdrive no boost - tone straight up into - Headstrong Lil King (Princeton clone) 12 watts - 1x12 - volume on maybe 2 - bass around 5 - treble around 8.

Thanks for taking your time to listen!

    dale
