I remember them practicing this tune at their old band room in Riverside (Stockton Street). We (Sybyl) practiced next door in a spare space our Sifu (kung Fu instructor) let to us. I've known Matt and Bill for many years. Great guys and very good musicians. Thanks for sharing this vintage vid. Brings back some memories!!
I am sorry to say that David McKee (drummer on many of the Apostle catalog of songs) passed away a few weeks ago in his home in Jacksonville, Florida. I don't have all of the details, but join me in mourning the passing a talented friend.
Oh My God! That is horrible! I've been wanting to see Dave for so long. He was 5 years older than me, where Matt was around 10 years older than I am. Dave and I were into a lot of the same bands. I think Matt used to laugh at us because Dave and I really liked the original drummer from WASP, named Tony Richards. Dave was one of the best drummers in this town as far as I was concerned, and he was the nicest guy you'd ever meet. I am so saddened to hear this news.
I was hoping this wasn't true, but sadly it is. ;(
David was as funny as could be. He was an incredibly talented artist, but one of his more famous quotes was,"I'm not an artist, I'm a decorative painter!" But he definitely was an incredible artist. I remember when he did his first Faux Finish on a Fireplace mantle and surround. I swear it looked exactly like a piece of Emerald Green marble when he got done - it was gorgeous.
My understanding was that this video was recorded in the parking lot where the Winn-Dixie is at. You can see a Hardees sign in the backgroup, which means they were close to SR 121 and the stage was facing north. This is just off of I-10.
I did not take this video so I do not know the exact date. The part of the video that got lost was Matt doing a solo and jumping on peoples cars out in the parking lot (wireless). I think they shoot you for stuff like that in Macclenny.
This is awesome. I latched on to Apostle way back. 88/89? Hey smoore, do you have anymore of this stuff? Haven't heard anything from Matt in eons, whats he currently up to? Thanks for this, it made my day. Please post more:)
I saw Apostle open up for Leather Nun in Jax Halloween night 1986. I was dressed up like Alice Cooper.
I thought they were great. They were bold for God and rocked the house.
2 months later I found myself in a fundamental Baptist children's home right next to Macclenny. No more rock music and no more dressing up like Alice Cooper!!!
I've got an Apostle song on a compilation tape called East Coast Metal. Great stuff.
Ah, over on Park Street. That was Leather Nunn's band room. ;)
I've known Matt for about 20 years. When David McKee quit playing drums in 1990 - I bought his Black Ludwig Kit, and then sold it back to him a few years later when they recorded their CD. I used to go to Church with Dave and Matt downtown on 14th Street at the church where John Rouche was the pastor.
thecelebrated. If you are who I think you are, then you and I and a guy named Kevin played some cool stuff together on that drum kit back in the early 90's. If not, then he must have sold them twice. If you are that person, let me know. I have been wondering what happened to you.
I sold the kit back to David, and then he recorded their CD (Matt set up n 8-Track analog studio over on the Southside before moving it to his house), and then David sold the kit to somebody else around... probably in 1995 or 1996.

Was that at the Cedar Hills Armory on Wilson Blvd? If so, I was at that show. That was when Matt fell through the Stage.

It was some place called "The Convent."
