That tecnollogy of video phones exist. People care to comunicate like that BUT the prices of mobiles or cell phones with video call are very EXPENSIVE IT DOESN'T LET the people live in a (MODERN WORLD)
@principecautivo, plus, with most of theses mobile phone companys, you can only do via video calling through the same network, for example, you can't video call from a Hutchinson network to a Orange Network or O2 number, I've tried this so many times with other mobile phones and got the same results with many, usually the only way using mobile video calling is if you call someone on the same network (example: O2 to O2 number) that has a mobile phone that has video calling feature.
That printing with light thing is a good idea. That's how receipts are printed, aren't they? Why don't we use more methods like that instead of ink? Although, then we'd be replacing ink expenses with special paper expenses.
@vality1 where the hell have you been?, of course we do, are you still in the stone age?, video phones have been going around for a while now, which you can buy from argos, a computer that access the internet to google road maps to print off routes and a printer.
Most of the old techonology visions of the pass has come to light now, mobile tv, video calling, sat navigation, computer mailing (email), touch screen computers.
LOOK AT THE IPAD, SOMETHING THAT WAS VISIONED MORE THAN 50 YEARS AGO!
No it would not need to do it. The UV would light the trought the film to the correct size. Watch that part again. You do not need to flip the film at all. It exposured just like the view would show. The thing would be as you say if you would need to flip the film and the UV would not exposure through the paper.
This tech has existed for decades, video phones have been launched several times over and over in history.... and failed every time, the reason is that almost nobody actually cares to see a damn video of someone's face while talking to them.
How often does someone on a PS3 or 360 video chat over voice chat, even if they have a camera?
They even tried vidoe calling on cellphones a few years ago..... and abandoned it because nobody cared.
I thnk historically video quality due to cost of bandwidth and quality has been poor on the uptake. With various factors changing, not least the restriction on travel for many now with cost and regulatory restrictions plus improved technology you will see a massive change in the coming years. Check out Cisco's Telepresence. This is becoming incredibly popular in industry, This will be available in the home within a few years.
Videophones have been available in homes over the years, multiple times.
People just never cared for them, it wasn't so much an issue of quality rather than need.
As I said, it was available on cellphones, but nobody really cared for it.
Telepresence is a little different than just a simple videophone as it usually means a physical mobile component or at least digital control over the location, not just transmitting video.
For me, it's not that I don't care.... I actually feel awkward and exposed when I'm video conferencing. In the presence of someone else, I can pick up on emotional and situational cues, and I can also look to see who's watching me. Over a video however, I'm really limited. I'm not sure who's watching me and when. It's a matter of comfort, and you cannot have comfort over a recorded video presence.
I remember seeing this in the 90s and howling with laughter.... then I went to a presentation by a guy from BT Oswestry (called Graham someone I think) who did a millenium version complete with holograms and stuff. If anyone has that one I would love to see it now. Go on BT, I dare you...
Wow, for that day and age that is amazing!

In addition to emitting UV, the button would also have to flip the image horizontally or else the printout would be backwards.
But you knew that.

It would be somekind success if the price would be lower. But when you pay your house away with videocalls, it is doomed to die.
Blame ISP's, not technology.

Wow, pulse code modulation for video. That's exactly what all digital video standards use, or at least use before the MPEG encoding.
