Maybe a little, with the whole space epic genera, and the use of the color white, inspired by the "storm troopers" for the Gundam. Then again, The colors of the American flag red, white, and blue were also inspirational. "Light-sabers" do not count as it goes back to Issac Asimov and the "light sword."

Sorry people, but this is better than the theme of the movie compilations. I will get slammed for it I know, but as period as the theme was, it did not have the epicness that is the gundam series, and I mean epic, like homer level epic. This is on the scale of the illiad, and the other theme just doesn't get that feel.

But then, he doesn't have anything to do with former space-nazi Quattro Bajeena ('cause that's what the Zeon was. With all due respect, Lucas is NOT a hack because the Star Wars franchise is one of the best science fiction stories of all time. Although the Star Wars prequels would have been a lot better if he also had Irvin Kershner of The Empire Strikes Back alongside him on the director's chair.

I would also consider James Cameron as a possible director of a live-action Gundam film. He was awesome on Avatar!
