  • I wish society would have gone the direction of the HD format instead of the BD format. Had everybody gone with HD, none of this would be an issue and Apple programs would work seemlessly creating HD DVDs. Now we're stuck back in the 90s creating SD DVDs because society didn't have enough foresight in seeing the grip SONY would have on BD. Make BD files? So what, you still can't truly author a BD without overly priced programs or paying SONY a license fee.

  • THIS DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE AS YOU CANT FIND DVHSCAP ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET.

  • @sammydehaan if you can hold of any old Apple Developer connection dvds they usually have and an Apple Firewire SDK pkgs.

  • great tut, thanks.

However, I wonder way you don't set the quality slider in mpeg streamclip to 100%. Does it not make a difference and also should one not choose the multiple pass encoding. I would have thought we need the best quality footage after conversion.

    cheers and thank you again

  • Would You do the same thing with Hv20 NTSC and would it also work if I didnt have FCP but Premiere Pro? I am having a difficult time because I am using Premiere Pro to capture and when I try to export it, it doesnt look as good as it did in premiere pro.

  • ntsc same principle. Can't comment on PP - never used it. I'd be checking export settings carefully - many of options encoding affect quality e.g. CBR/VBR, bitrate setting, 2-pass, whether it be WMV, h.264 or mpeg2 for DVD

  • Your video changed my life ...

I had a PAL Sony HDV cam ... but it got ruined ... Brought my tapes home to Canada ... & amazingly, they played in my buddy's Sony HDV ... & I'm currently dumping in NTSC, since that's actually the make of my friend's camera ...

Will this cause me any troubles or lose much quality in the process? ... It's not your every-day problem ~ hoping you'd know ... Thanks for all!

  • Are you sure it's dumping in NTSC? I would've thought the editor would have to do the conversion rendering to another format. You've got gd colour and res in PAL but a slower frame rate - any conversion is going to be cost in quality. May try a direct transfer using DVHSCap then load the clips and see what their native format is.

  • why do you left upper field first?

  • HDV 1080i field dominance is upper (odd) whereas DV is lower (even).

  • can you do more tutorials for FCP? all the descent ones are emeek77, and being australian his accent annoys me.

You have a good way of explaining things to

    keep it up

  • ubconsciously 'internationalize' my accent. Lol i find myself doing the same thing!Im a kiwi but live in Japan where they all sound american to me !

Im buying my new HV20 tonight on Japan auction with a 5 year warranty for a cool 600 USD. I thinks thats pretty good just hope it has Eng menu options !

    lol wish me luck

BTW your review was a great help along with amazon user reviews to chose the HV20 over its competition so cheers

  • dude Im trying to guess your accent

    you from NZ??Norrth Island??

    im thinkin bout gettin hv20

  • Nope, DownUnder. I subconsciously 'internationalize' my accent sometimes, I grew up OS attending US international schools so that might mix things up too.

  • Is there any benefit to pulling down the .m2t stream over capturing in final cut. Can you explain why you might want to burn the media stream to CD as you mentioned in the video?

    Thanks!!

  • To playback on PS3. I wanted to see the orig quality of my footage without using the HV20 heads. With FCP you will need convert to transport stream - be it a transcode or re-encode it potentially a lossy step that I wanted to avoid for thee purposes of appraising my new HD LCD and HV20.

  • Got it. Makes sense. Your video delivered much more than that to us, the students. I appreciate the time you took.

    Thanks
