i don't know where you're getting spine compression from in this song.. paralyzed citizen specifically says it but i find this song to be a lot more about a subtle shift of perspective due to some brain injury that slipped by unnoticed by everyone but the narrator.. and obviously in his new paranoid/altered state he's not going to tell anyone haha..
but yeah. i feel like its more about perspective and what is or isn't normal, not sad but certainly thought provoking.

A similar song is "ballad of a paralyzed citizen". Refers to spine damage too... also very sad...
Regardless of the sadness..... the Faint will forever be my ALL TIME FAVORITE BAND!!!
