Do you believe it!
The TRUTH prevails
@augustinmusic - Gerd, maybe you've got a legal case here in terms of ownership of 'intellectual property' and your protection of it. Even if it wasn't contractually spelled & written in stone at the time you were a driving force of the Zeitgeist and Radio Bremen benefitted from it Big Time! Ignorance & arrogance are features which have not disappeared from the face of the Earth, especially not with the help of a Love&Peace Generation!
The archived Beat Club footage filmed between 1966-1969 has become a priceless gem due to clips such as The Kinks-Waterloo Sunset, Cream - I Feel Free/ Strange Brew, The Casuals - Jesamine...in fact the list seems endless.
Between 1970-1972 the footage is virtually worthless, the only thing worth watching apart from the gorgeous Uschi Nerke (female presenter) is Cat Stevens, Free & a very few others. But don't remember Beat Club for what it became, remember it for what it was; between 1966-69.
@kisumunic The black and white footage from 1965-1969 was all lip synced. The 1970-72 color footage was all live and was even better. How can you call it worthless when it has great footage of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, T Rex , ELP, Yes and King Crimson?
Mike Leckerbusch (Beat Club Producer/Director) lost the plot in 1970 ironically just as the programme changed from black & white to colour. Apart from the odd good performance from artists such as Cat Stevens, Badfinger & Free the programme became boring featuring mostly unknown & untalented artists. Dave Lee Travis left at the end of 1969 forseeing the programme becoming a disaster. In 1973 the programme slowly changed back into it's original format & was renamed Musikladen.
Between 1966-1969 Beat Club was the second greatest music programme in the world.
Only the BBCs Top of the Pos was better.
But the idiots running the BBC in that era have destroyed 95% of the footage whereas the Germans at Studio Hamburg had the intelligence to archive their videotapes of Beat Club in a professional manner.
Looking at the quality of the episodes of Beat Club the footage has been looked after extremely well, it puts the BBC in England to shame.
@kisumunic - the BBC had committed the same cultural crime with most of the 6.5 Special clips as ITV had done with Oh Boy! The same in Germany with certain music shows prior to the Beat Club! Era of the Indo bands etc. - All gone but few exceptions! The then new media of magnetic recording allowed to use the same tape twice++ via the act of erasing! Hence, money could be saved, other than with film. Rationalization = Destruction or Gain. Eiffel Tower to be destroyed for parking lots!
What band between 55s - 60s? Also the tune starting at 60s sounds EXACTLY the same as the Banned - Little girl from 1977... What band is that? Must be a cover...

I noticed Steppenwolf and Jimi Hendrix being on Beat Club in that clip from 1968 or 1969?
Glamking1 2 years ago
The Hendrix clip is from a 1967 appearance, and the Steppenwolf is, I believe, 1968, when the debut lp was released.
