Not bad, but I heard some pedal, and she does not connect the lines as Gould did. The rubatos were too extended for my taste and the playing seemed hard at times. But, for 16, she has a bright future. She also did not play the octave low E as Gould. It would be very easy to tell the difference between her and Gould.

Too much staccato!.. It should be tenuto absolutely. Tempo is good but should be faster a little bit more. Dynamics can be more piano also specially in 2.10. Still good performance...
this piano really isnt the same, the base is weaker and a bit dry. but her playing is good, am sure she doesnt really just copy gould's style, she is probably just playing like that for the event.
Judge lest thee be judged. Life is short and such a waste to spend our limited time criticizing others, when that same energy could be spent enriching your life and those around you.
99% JACKASS comments from you clowns. Most of you sound like the marginally talented and perpetually frustrated music students that you probably are...
The most interesting fact is the possibility to hear once again the "voice" of the marvellous CD318. The less is to hear 4 minutes of the same staccato without any phrasing and musical ideas.
What a great performance. This piece requires exceptional focus in addition to great technique. So what if she didn't play it like Gould did? I'd be less impressed if she just thoughtlessly tried to copy him. Her interpretation works well and it must have been a pleasure to play on that piano's "hair-trigger" action. Bravo Marika!
Brian Levine, the curator of the Glenn Gould Foundation in Toronto, disagrees with you. She is appearing at Carnegie Hall under the Foundation's auspices at the end of this month. Try to see here there, maybe you will change your mind.
i dont think its pathetic and i dont think he's an idiot. its his way of getting into the music. i think his music is great...he plays bach with interest and enthusiasm, other bach players make it seem boring...
I've just realised he had very serious psychological problems,so perhaps he deserves some kindness from the world on that account.
However, it still won't make me admire his habit of singing along with the piano whilst perfoming Bach in concert.......I would walk out of the concert and demand my money back!

Oh boy, the lady at the beginning says that it's in F minor! The sound of that piano is recognizable among thousands!Great performance, great technique, great endurance! I wish I could hear the left hand melodies coming out more and maybe some more legato. I hope she has good teachers.. BTW she looks fantastic, she is so talented and has my mother's name!!!
WHAT?1R U serious?!!!actually Im getting worrid now cuase GG(Gould)DIDNT GO TO EUROPE he stayed at toronto for his studies ,didnt u know that he was such a nourotic and hypocondriac that couldnt even stand living somewhere that he wasnt familier with,he was a control freak and he hated changes and that was one of the reason that he gave up performance at his early thirties!probably around 1964.
Yes, he did study in Toronto, but he also attended seminars in Salzburg under Joseph Horowitz, unless it was only fiction in Bernhard's book... Anyway, I think that it's always enriching for an artist to learn music where it was composed and played for more generations. In Europe and in Russia (must take some courses there). In any case.. "if they are roses, they will bloom"
After Marc-Andre Hamelin your sister appears to be the second pianowonder from Montreal. Very impressive for a 16 year old, just 4 more years and she should be fully ready to join the big leagues. Can't wait to hear her play Debussy's "Pour le piano" and "Jardins sous la pluie".
What did she think about the piano, its sound and its action? It was damaged in the late seventies and Gould himself stopped using it?
Hi, Emmanuel - I'm the Curator for that exhibit. Marika played beautifully on the Steinway and later on a tough little Yamaha grand during a truly gorgeous evening concert. It was an honour to have her take part, from my perspective. Congratulations on Carnegie Hall and so many other accomplishments.

The Yamaha used during performance was never touched by Gould, just kindly supplied for the exhibit opening.

non-legato bach... I'm not saying she is bad. Just that she isnt even close to him.
