what you sing, and what bonney sings is bach's version of ave maria. ave maria is not "by" anyone, and is age old. plus i dont believe schubert's is in german

Sorry, but it's you who's mistaken. This is Schubert's original version - a setting in German of Sir Walter Scott's poem 'Ellen's third song'. The church later used it for the traditional text.

Not bad for not having some elegant music to water down your nervous diaphragm. Your voice is definitely pretty and that's what counts. You can be technically brilliant as a singer and your voice can be like the proverbial fingernails on the chalkboard. But I took solace in yours. A song like Ave Maria you have to sing it a thousand times just to find your niche among it's subtle peaks and valleys. Then you have to sing it another thousand times once you become famous.

Yes, you did an absolutely great performance of Ave Maria, and your German is almost perfect (it isn't that easy to pronounce "ch" and "sch" like in "sicher" and "Menschen" as a native German usually does if he is speaking standard German). So what about singing the complete lied, there are at least three strophes. The "official" English translation might be found in Chapter XXIX (Hymn to the Virgin) of Sir Walter Scott's "The Lady of the Lake", page 58.
