You're wrong though. So far, she has actually written at least the majority (or usually all of it) of all songs she has ever recorded, except for a cover song she made of Juvenile's "Slow Motion" (and even then, she changed all the verses and made her own instead).

That's the point with Ke$ha, she's a songwriter first. There's no doubt she could be successful as well if she was working in the background as a songwriter for other artists only.

I second MattSheel's comment. Sure there are exceptions as there always are, but most of the times the artists you accuse of trying to "fit in" and "appeal to the mainstream" are just doing what they want to do with their music, and happen to be successful with it.

Also, there's nothing such as "true" and.... uhm, "untrue" artists. That would be a not only completely subjective, but also very simple-minded differentiation, would it not?

The reason why her label released the type of songs she had released was because they knew that that's what sells more and it gets people talking about it, whether it be good or bad.
