One of the things that I absolutely despise about twilight is how women are portayed in the books. She makes it seem that women are inferior to men. Also, I can't stand Bella at all. She is a whiny, moronic, spoiled teenager who has raging homones, making it easy for girls to relate to her. The relationship between Edward and Bella is based of off lust and smells, not true love. Not to mention the relationship is very unhealthy. In conclusion, HP is way better! :)

I'm not trying to defend Twilight, but I don't see anything wrong with writing a FICTIONAL story based on a dream. What Dumbledore was getting at is that when dreams start to become more important than your own real life, then you start having issues. Dreams can be a wonderful temporary escape from reality, but they can't replace it. I don't like Twilight, but some lit. agent must've liked Meyer's dream-story to get it published, so good for her.
Even though I haven't read the books, or watched any of the movies, I still find myself cracking jokes whenever I can about Twilight anyway. It's because it's so easy to make fun of.
Here's one right now: The differences between Harry Potter, and Bella Swan.

I also remember an episode of batman: the animated series when he has a dream (that he can't wake up from) of his parents being alive and his life is perfect. But he learns to dismiss it because it's just a dream , basically teaching the same lesson that Dumbledore is saying. So If you got Dumbledore AND Batman telling you this, you know to listen to it.

Star Wars is one of the most popular movie trilogies of all time (and yes, it is Fantasy not Sci-Fi because it doesn't examine science or philosophy; it's about an epic journey). Harry Potter, while a very fun story, did not change anything. It used old tropes to create something new and interesting as many other popular authors have done before.

People why must we all compare Harry Potter and Twilight? Harry Potter is story that built upon complex sub-stories with lots of background details, where as Twilight is just simply true love- crazy and complicated in it's own way. Both are great stories just one is for people how like action and one is for people who are in love with an idea of love that doesn't really exist anymore. Can we just agree that they are completely different and don't need to be compared?

@push10soldier Fantasy wasn't popular before Harry Potter? People used to dress up as hobbits and wizards and elves back in the sixties. Star Wars is one of the most popular movie trilogies of all time (and yes, it is Fantasy not Sci-Fi because it doesn't examine science or philosophy; it's about an epic journey). Harry Potter, while a very fun story, did not change anything. It used old tropes to create something new and interesting as many other popular authors have done before.

@SLReyst Hey, when the Twilight boom came to my town in 2009, and I saw all those girls, most of them former Harry Potter fans, holding the first book, I got curious. I was like: "This book must be very special." Then I finally asked them what it was about.
When they told me: "A girl falling in love with a vampyre", I swear my cliché meter went up to 1.000.000. I though "WTF?". So I read it out of curiosity (I'm a guy, BTW) and when I finished the whole series I just wanted to vomit.

I've read both series and I have to say, for a while, I was a dedicated twihard. However, I read Harry Potter after that and suddenly realized why everyone thought Twilight sucked. I read both HP and Twilight, the former got that with all the traits of bringing character interaction and storyline while the latter I just couldn't get into it at all that the only conclusion that I got is that it's all about appeal. Not similar at all. I prefer Twilight, yes, but I still had a few tears to shed in my bedroom when Harry Potter ended.
