  • Hagler beats anyone. End of.

  • @worldcoup well he didnt beat leonard end of lol

  • @sweetassugar69 Are you kidding, of course he did. everyone knows it, even Sugar himself.

  • I like how hagler is backing up leanord even if hes getting hit

  • What a bag job - after the fight they polled the fans and majority of fans thought Hagler won - which he did.

  • Hagler never asked for a Rematch. He got mad and retired for good.

  • @InternationalBoy Wrong. Dead Wrong. Hagler tried for a year for a rematch because it would have been a zillion dollars. Leonard knew it was a one time thing for him. Read the 1990 Ring Magazine article on Hagler-he only decided for sure at the December of 87.

  • haglers fight.

  • brilliant round. leonard showed great courage but i still think it was haglers round

  • You work your way up to 160. You dont go straight from 147 to 160. But Ray suffered the detached retina in 1982 so he couldnt make that move to 154 and stay there for a while and build his body up. Funny how Hagler didnt move up to 175.

Lets see Hagler try that come forward style against a 175 pounder. He wonders why Ray didnt fight toe to toe. Had Hagler moved up he would have found out why its smart to box against bigger men. Hagler was bigger and stronger. Thats why Ray boxed..

  • Hagler fought blown up welterweights. Why didnt they fight in 1982? Because Ray was only 147, thats why. He wasnt stupid to give Hagler the advantage. Just go straight from 147 to 160. Thats dumb

Question? How come Hagler didnt go straight from 160 to 175 and take on Michael Spinks. He wanted 147 pounders to go from 147 to 160. Why didnt he do it?

Ray's last fight at his PEAK was at 147 against Bruce Finch....Not 154 or 160

  • @bscottdp Hearns and Duran were actually even less than 147lbs. initially.

  • LOL...Bottom line is Ray Leonard was naturally 147 and coming off a 5 year layoff. Waiting for Hagler to get Old? That's funny

Hagler was active 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 while Ray was at clubs getting high, drunk and out of shape. Ray decides to get back in shape, challenges the best fighter in the world at the time and beats him after a 5 year layoff

  • I still remember that one. Sugar Ray was cornered and Hagler was aiming to get the final blow on him, and then suddenly Sugar Ray kick ass back and makes Hagler the loser of this moment. Fantastic.

  • This was one of the most egregiously bad decisions handed down ever. Hagler clearly beat that ass.

  • My Dad made those comments. not me, so please save your emails we lost him 3 weeks ago. I could care less about who won that fight.

  • @8moody1 My apologies to you. Message will be removed.

  • i really thoght hagler won the fight. he landed better cleaner harder punches and did more damage that is what profesional boxing is about. it wasnt the aau final it was world middleweight championchip. if you watch the fight again than you can see that hagler blocked most of rays punches and the ones that did land didnt hurt him.

  • Ridiculous how Hagler just literally shrugs off the best flurries Leonard had! A true Bad Man!!

  • He was totally shot after Norris. I don,t even count the Camacho fight. Norris put the end to your boy and he was never the same. Camacho couldn,t even punch and Leonard couldn,t take it, he got stopped by a bum and he never offered Hagler a rematch either. The only thing I,d like to step up is my fist up to your big, loud mouth and knock your teeth down your throat, that is, if you have any. You,re either blind or stupid, take your choice, and stop sending me emails you idiot.

  • @8moody1 save your long boring story for somebody else. You said Norris retired Leonard and you were wrong. Feel Free To STFU.

  • Comment removed

  • @Piglatinsuperstar And Leonard destroyed Hagler and retired him for good.

  • @kingq01

Destroyed = Camacho KO Leonard = retirement!

  • @kingq01 no. leonard got the decision then refused to give hagler a rematch. hagler was unoficcialy retired before leonard finnaly said he would fight him. ray ducked him for 5 years.

  • @ghns1133 What the hell is unofficially retired?

Hagler didn't want a rematch. Anytime in the first couple of months after Hagler lost that he was asked about a rematch, he never gave a straight answer. Immediately after the fight he was asked about a rematch and he said "I DON'T KNOW." Leonard offered him a rematch in a post-fight panel discussion on HBO, Hagler said "NOT IN VEGAS." Then after about a year passed Hagler starts crying he didn't want to give me a rematch. He didn't want it.

  • @kingq01 but you have to admit that ray didnt win the fight. it wasnt the ameteurs u got to fight. and he danced.

  • @ghns1133 In the ameteurs fights are judged different types of ways for example: In the Olympics fights are scored based on how many total punches land in scoring areas no matter who wins more rounds. Some ameteur bouts are decided by the referee alone, some are 10 point must like the pros.

In this fight SRL won no matter what the scoring method would've been. Ray won more rounds and landed more punches.

  • Comment removed

  • @Piglatinsuperstar No! I'm telling like it is. Watch the video! What does Hagler say when asked about a rematch? I never saw Hagler pressing Ray for a rematch. Only when Marv was comentating did he start sayin "he wouldn't rematch me."

Took 5yrs? You bitter Hagler fans would've had an excuse about any time SRL beat Hagler. And would have had more to say had Ray never fought him at all.

  • @kingq01

i was there. I had to wait 5 yrs before the puny media brat showed his face. in fact, everyone gave up on the match long before it came about. Leonard was scared, that's all there is to it. He already came out in 84. that means his excuse was just that-an excuse to hide behind

So what if he fought hagler EVENTUALLY. its like saying you're dating the hottest girl in high school at age 40

  • @Piglatinsuperstar Why would Hagler go after someone puny? Did Hagler have the confidence to move up? NO WAY. Hagler was never really respected until he beat Hearns (The close fight with lightweight Duran wasn't enough). Then Ray "the puny media brat" beats him 2 fights later.

  • @kingq01

everyone was saying how Ray was the best, not Hagler. so let him prove it

Ray was talking all brave during the Hagler-Hamsho commentary but after the slaughter was over you could already see Ray backing out of it

if Ray was the best he wouldve proven it right then and there instead of relying on others to soften him up. I couldve beat Hagler that night

  • @Piglatinsuperstar Ray was the best, WELTERWEIGHT at the time. Hagler was a middleweight in the amateurs, and retired there having never fought anything but middles and under. The last guy he fought weighed less than his first pro opponent.

Who softened Marv up? He wasn't knocked down, he wasn't busted up, he didn't have any brutal 15 rounders, he took Hearns in 3, and KOed John the bum Mugahbi, and 1 yr later you could've beat him Marv only wanted to fight ray out of jealousy.

  • @kingq01

u cant be a boxing fan and not know the answer to that. it was all over the news in '84

You never heard it? It was widely known,,in the New York Post, Ring, World Boxing ("Not as Marvelous as ue used to be")

BTW, Marvin was STILL fighting by 86. In the words of Alex Wallow, director of sports programming for ABC,, "Mugabi gave Marvin the worst beating of his career"

u didnt catch Mars bruised face? thought you said you were a fan of the sport

  • @Piglatinsuperstar Why wouldn't he still be fighting in 86? He was 31. Now, when I gave you info from a New York Post article (about TTN crying the night he beat SRL) in another thread, you wanted to dismiss it.

Mugagbi was a punching bag. Marv had steam coming off his big bald head snappin Mugabi's head back. Yeah he gave Marv the worst beating that Marv has GAVE in his career. Marv PUNISHED him. Then Ray showed you how to beat a bigger man, who thinks he can whoop you, a year later.

  • @kingq01

Leonard's career was short compared with Hagler's. He never couldve done what Marvin did. The Hearns fight was the ultimate culmination of what the sport could be and was realized what the fans had waited for since the inception of boxing.

Still Marvin had slowed greatly since the days of Scypion, Sibson when he reached his peak. It was sad watching Marvin trade jabs with Mugabi & Leonard, two opponents he wouldve destroyed in 10 seconds during his prime

  • @Piglatinsuperstar Tim Ryan: WILL YOU CONSIDER ANOTHER FIGHT WITH THIS ONE BEING SO CLOSE?

Marvin Hagler: "NAW NOT WITH THAT, I DON'T THINK WITH THIS, I'LL HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT, I HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT."

  • @Piglatinsuperstar In a magazine article (3 weeks after the fight): Hagler refused to reveal wether he would rematch Leonard, or defend his IBF title which he still held.

Google this; Hagler retires to privacy. HAGLER DID NOT WANT A REMATCH.

  • Comment removed

  • @Piglatinsuperstar Show me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen any footage of Hagler demanding a rematch from Ray. I've seen footage of Marv avoiding the rematch question. I've seen Ray offer Marv a rematch on HBO, so I know MMH didn't want a rematch,

  • Comment removed

  • @Piglatinsuperstar I never said he ducked him. I said he didn't want a rematch. HE DID NOT WANT A REMATCH.

  • @Piglatinsuperstar I never said he ducked Ray. I said he didn't want a rematch. MARVIN DID NOT WANT A REMATCH.

  • @kingq01

Yes he did. I heard him say "I will give ray such and such amount of time for a rematch"

Marvin gave him more than enough time. Ray did not accept and waited for Marvin to retire, which he did in the summer of 88. Then Ray came out with his challenge which we all know was completely bogus

apparantly, no amount of money was worth the risk. face it, he was chicken

  • @Piglatinsuperstar Prove it! Show me any resource before 88 of Hagler saying this. I would think Hagler demanding a rematch would have been big-time news coming off of losing the biggest fight in boxing history.

  • @kingq01

why would you doubt it coming from a fighter that took 5 years just to agree to the match. Hagler wasl always asking. After two years tho gave up hope. IMO Ray just didnt have the right stuff

  • @Piglatinsuperstar Coming from? Im talking about Hagler demanding a rematch, that has never happened. If Hagler was asking for a rematch it wasn't publicly. And the reason I doubt it is because I've never seen Hagler do anything but wine, way after he retired. So if you cant prove it put it to rest.

  • @kingq01

it happened. you just didnt see it.

it didnt happen cuz Ray wasnt for it. Ray wasnt for a lot of rematches and that became the talk about Ray going into his rematch with Hearns. The reason is cuz his reluctancy stemming from the Hagler fight. it embarasses Ray when u bring it up on interviews. it bothers his fans too

  • @kingq01 You are an idiot. Hagler begged for a year for the rematch because it was still the biggest fight out there. People forget that Leonard was the Oscar of his time-everyone wanted to fight him. An absolute shame that this fight wasnt given the decision it should have had- A Draw.

  • @torr5962 Like I told the last guy, PROVE IT! I can easily prove that Hagler avoided the question (multiple times) when asked did he want a rematch with Leonard. But nowhere will you ever see Hagler demanding a rematch.

  • @kingq01

You're right,in fact just recently there was an in-depth article on the fight and one senior HBO official stated that Hagler and his team never made any serious push for a rematch with Leonard. He kind of hung around but he never seriously campaigned like some seem to think that he did.

  • @kingq01 of course he wanted a rematch, that goes without saying but leonard wouldnt give it to him he retired after

  • InternationlBoy I was a Leonard fan until that fight, he turned into a scumbag, he wouldn,t go 15rds, had to have 10oz gloves and needed a 22' ring and still lost if you are honest about counting the punches landed, but I guess you only see what you want. Leonard did get carried to his dressing room and Hagler looked like he came from a day at the beach. The judges stole Haglers title but that,s ok Terry Norris destroyed him, retiring him permanently, I loved it, and don,t call me boy, Creep!

  • Comment removed

  • InternationalBoy Just accept that Hagler had his title stolen by the judges, stop listening to Gil Clancy and watch the fight for yourself, count Haglers punches landed and watch all Leornard,s misses. OH! He looked pretty alright, it,s too bad that he needed to be carried to his dressing room while Hagler looked like he came from a day at the beach. It really bothered me because I was a Leonard fan until that fight but it,s ok because Terry Norris destroyed him big time, retiring him for good.

  • @8moody1 i watched the fight, and i seen Hagler give away the first 4 rounds ez then struggled to maintain supremency through out the rest of the fight. Ray won period. Hagler let him control the whole fight and dictate everything. Instead of the WAR 2 like Hagler protested it would be, it was more like the Ray Leonard Comeback Show. Hagler lost face it.

  • @8moody1 and actually Norris didnt retire anything, Cammacho did. Step your boxing game up.

  • InternationalBoy try watching it with your eyes open next time

  • @8moody1 try not being such a fan boy and accept your boy got out smarted out classed, and out fought.

  • continued: In those days you had to physically be the champ to take the title. Leonards punches may have looked flashier, but was far from doing anything to take away the title. I remember Haglers first fight against Vito Antifirmo who held the title. it was a real war which I felt Hagler ultimately won.... still gave it to Antifirmo. The rematch Hagler took him out, and never lost since. The closest I ever seen Hagler came to losing was the Hearns fight because of the cut.

  • Followed both these guys threw out their careers. Both were true champions. But remember when this fight took place there still were 15 round championship fights which leonard wanted no part of. he knew those 3 xtra rounds would be next to impossible to keep up the running tatics against Haglers barrage. When this fight ended, just before the decision, Leonard said to Hagler "you beat me". He knew he did not do enough to take away the championship. In those days ...

  • @340rps When Ray told Marv I can beat you in 12 for sure, 15 if I was active. Hagler agreed to 12 saying "I don't care how many rounds its scheduled for, because its not going the distance. Hagler repeatedly said he's not leaving it to the judges. WINNING MORE RDS IS ENOUGH TO TAKE AWAY THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

  • @kingq01

and like it says in the video mentioned by Ryan & Clancy, "Sugar Ray said he was counting on the slowness of Hagler. he said that he'd lost alot of speed"

so obviously, Leonard didnt show how to beat a bigger man becuz he wouldve done it much sooner, like in 1984. What he DID show however was how to beat a man that had no reflexes, leg's punch, and was wore down by all previous contenders

  • Leonard was carried from the ring Hagler looked like he had juat taken a walk in the park, not a mark on him. leonard,s bs combinations hit nothing but air. It doesn,t matter how good they look if they don,t land. The judges must have been blind. Hagler won, no doubt about it, he was robbed, at 157-158lbs he was probably the last real middleweight.

  • @8moody1 you're blind those combinations hit and landed. and the end tallys Leonard threw more and landed more. you lost and so did your boy.

  • @8moody1 Leonard was carried from the ring? I saw Leonard standing on the ropes anticipating the announcement NEW MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD while flexing his bicep. Ray knew he won. Hagler knew he lost. How could Hagler be dancing and celebrating his worst performance in over a decade.

  • Respond to this video... halger fucked him up. leonard just landed more.

  • Sugars speed and reflexes, were unmatched.

  • greatness in action

  • Dudes are quick to trash leonard, but forget He fought three hall of famers when they were Ranked number 1 and beat them all. Nobody has done that. Sugar Ray Leonard is by far the greatest.

  • @InternationalBoy He was beaten by Duran.

  • @BlessKyrgyzstan and vice versa.

  • @InternationalBoy Nope Leonard didn't beat Duran, It was Duran who quit. You can't be GOAT if you lose to small guy from lower weight.

  • @BlessKyrgyzstan lol@Leonard Making him quit, that means he made the Great Duran Cry , take his ball and go home. A wins a win, Cry more. Before Duran quit Duran was losing rounds. Find more excuses.

  • @InternationalBoy Yeah win is win, but Duran already proved that he is much better that Leonard.

  • @BlessKyrgyzstan yeah he tried to prove it again in the second fight and got embarrassed. lol He went back to panama and got thrown in jail, his house destroyed with "coward" written on his walls for his effort. lol a wins a win tho.

  • @InternationalBoy

if he was the greatest he wouldntve had so much trouble w Norris

    Couldnt handle that speed!

  • Now listen closely I - Boy cuz I will only say it once:

Norris was slick, quick, and his shots to the head made Ray Leonard SICK!

  • @Piglatinsuperstar He said Norris Retired him for good, he was wrong. Cammacho did. You backing him up makes you look stupid no matter how Anti Ray-Leonard you are.

  • @Piglatinsuperstar But Ray Leonards Career was Slick,Quick and it made You sick.

Heres another L for your collection of many.

    iStay WInning.

  • @InternationalBoy

dont get me wrong I-boy. leonard was a good fighter. he did many things for the sport but I just dont think he was the best. maybe 5 or 6. it is good he didnt fite Nunn, who had Norris' speed in addition to being a lefty. Mike would have been all wrong for Ray and surely would make him turn gay

  • @Piglatinsuperstar word, at that time yeah Nunn being a lefty and a Mover would of been a match not built for him. i seen a couple of comments of you shitting on Chavez. lol I agree with it all.

  • @InternationalBoy

Taylor & Pernel got his number. Taylor beat him w his speed, Pernel used technique and Julio could never figure him out. i am not a Pernel fan but that was a clinic

  • i love sugar ray leonard but i like hagler more he is my 3rd favorite fighter but look how ray leonard threw so many puches but hagler has the biggest chin i ever seen thomas hearns hit him with his best punch and he still stay upped

  • Want to know what "old school" boxing writers really thought of Leonard? Writers who, unlike today's crop of "experts" really knew the game? Veteran scribe Dave Anderson, when recounting that the real Sugar Ray (Robinson) had granted Leonard his permission to call himself "Sugar Ray," said, "I wish he hadn't." That says it all.

  • Then came Montreal and a seething Duran who, despite the closeness of the judges' cards, handed Leonard's butt to him in 15 rounds of hell. This changed Leonard forever. With the exception of Hearns I (where he had no real choice), Leonard never again faced a hall-of-fame fighter who was at the top of his game at the time. He didn't give Hearns a second fight and Duran a third until 1989 when both were close to shot, and still Hearns did enough to beat him.

  • I followed Leonard's career from right before he became welterweight champ in 1979 to the end against Camacho, and looking back there were two Ray Leonards, one pre-Montreal and the other post-Montreal. The pre-Montreal Leonard fought everyone coming up the ranks, ducked no one, and did not demand shortened fight distances or a ring the size of a roller rink.

  • A friend of mine and I were discussing this fight the other night, and he brought out a great point, and that is what the public did not realize when Hagler defeated Hearns and Mugabi, mainly because both were terrific action fights, is that Hagler was getting hit more than ever. The Marvin Hagler of five years earlier did not get hit nearly as much, and this is the Hagler Leonard wanted nothing to do with.

  • sweetassugar69, you are an IDIOT!Count the puches landed in the Hagler vs Leonard fight, Hagler landed at least 4 to 1 and I,m being generous, Leonard was flashy but barely any of his punches landed.Hagler was unmarked, Leonard needed to be carried to his dressing room.Hagler got ripped off.

  • @8moody1 Hagler threw 150 more punches than Leonard and landed the much more effective. Boxing "fans" who don't know Boxing are impressed by shit like flurries and flash and dont see the culmative effect that guys like Hagler take on a guy. Same with Chavez and Taylor in 1991: Richard Steele saw what the cameras and the crowd couldn't and called the fight. The damage became obvious in Taylor's total descent into tragedy. If Hagler had 3 rounds he would have finished Leonard AND HIS CAREER!.

  • esta pelea se vendio, marvin es mucho mejor que leonard,,

  • Leonard was a great fighter. But I watched this fight when it was fought. And there is no way that decision should have went to Leonard. There was no clear winner in that fight. All Leonard did through most of that fight was run and dodge Hagler's punches. He didn't get hit much, but Hagler chased him and made the fight. Hagler was the aggressor, and he should have been given the decision.

  • Nomatter who you think won! It was a great performance from a guy

who hadn't fought since Haley's fucking comet! Leonard wins! Hagler ought of gas.

  • Leonard won this fight because it was what the world wanted - he was the `hero', the golden boy. Leonard turned fights into popularity contests, and he couldn't lose a popularity contest.

The sporting, boxing, reality is that MMH won this fight. Hagler was a true great - definitely top 5 all time, and a much more skilful boxer than his reputation suggests. SRL may have stolen a result against Hopkins; SRL v Jones Jr would have been close; Monzon would have KO or TKO'd him - in my opinion

  • hagler was 1 of the greatest middleweights and 1 of the greatest boxers of all time and he won that fight!!!!!

  • i love both guys but hagler had the allaround skill

  • are you kidding ? sugar ray leonad had the all round skill , hagler was just strong and very powerful

  • Hagler spent his entire career trying to lure smaller men into the ring to fight him and when the last of the small men got into the ring he got owned in a fight that will forever haunt his legacy.

If he had gotten beat by Hearns then it still would have been an embarrassment but atleast Hearns was active and close to his prime,Leonard was a good five years past his prime with only one fight in five years.

the Leonard of 87 would never have beaten the monzons and hopkins but he beat hagler

  • @syrandon Sorry buddy, Leonard was only 30 yrs old! Are ya gonna say PM, PBF and JC are past their collective primes?? Leonard was exceptional, no doubt, but while MMH was KNOCKING OUT monsters like Hearns, John the Beast Mugabi; Leonard was watching and trust me...training. There was so much else going on here it would make yer head spin. IOW, I'm pretty sure MMH is set for the ROHL....LOL

  • very controversial fight a lot of ppl felt hagler won (me included) all n all a very entertaining bout

  • Hagler was like 37 years old for that fight, after that night not even Thomas Hearns and lalonde was able to beat leonard, so shut the fuck up you asshole.

  • Hagler was supposed to stop the washed up,inactive, one eyed, blown up welterweight Ray Leonard

Hagler promised a knockout and the vast majority of the public and media expected nothing less

A real great middleweight would have stopped this Ray Leonard and yet Hagler failed to do so,Losing a close decision in the process

    Hagler is an overrated fraud

  • Whatever - SRL happened to be one of the best fighters of all time, no disgrace for Hagler to lose this fight - I suppose he was an overrated fraud who went unbeaten for 11 years, as undisputed champion for 6 of them - not bad!

  • If Hagler is an overated fraud,

    you are an underated idiot.

  • The supposed great Marvin Hagler couldn't even stop a washed up,inactive, one eyed, blown up welterweight in Ray Leonard

Hagler is a fraud and a scam

  • 2 legends...

  • Leonard doesn't back Hagler up once with any of those punches. Hagler just stands there, blocks about half those punches and the ones that connect dont even move his head, nevermind back him up. It was all flashy stuff from leonard but no real substance to it. Hagler had him hurt and tired there. This fight should be a lesson - you cant let it go to the judges. They got it wrong.

  • LOL you are blind as hell if you think those punches didnt back hagler up

i guess hagler backed up himself and let ray out the corner?

    ROFL

    wheres the logic in that?

  • Dudes are mad cause Sugar Ray Leonard was playing chess against some Connect 4 players. Ray out smarted and out classed all those fighters, and it doesnt matter what people say, the record books from the tests of time will mark him as beating the best. You can love it you can hate it, but its History. Learn from it.

  • best fight i ever saw, ray won!!!

  • Hagler should have filed a police report, 'cause he got robbed. I saw the fight live, Hagler kicked his ass for most the fight. Leonard was a showboat.

  • Can't really judge by the crowd and from one angle. I thought the same years ago, because I loved Hagler. After viewing the full fight, Ray leonard impressed me and put on a performance. I thing Ray won by a narrow margin.

  • how did he kick his ass?? hagler was swinging wildly and missing most of the fight. You must have been sitting way up in the balcony.

  • Leonard would swing like crazy about the last 10 seconds of each round, the rest the round he mostly danced. In the books, Leonard got the W, but I saw the fight pal, Hagler beat his ass.

  • hagler was the clear winner in this fight full stop

  • Btw, Obelmeijas didn't have a walkaround weight in the 200s, or beat Larry Holmes. Spinks did. Leonard was the same height as Hagler and with a similar walkaround weight. Even Duran was eyeball to eyeball with Hagler.

  • thanks for proving me right spinks grew in a little more than a lightheavyweight over time pretty much what sugar ray did had to do !! hagler accepted the fight because he thought he would beat him easy ! big mistake also hagler was active and a champion who was unbeaten fighting against a boxer who had 1 fight in 5 years who was only 2 years younger!!

  • as for duran not being prepard properly thats his problem he is a paid pro and knew the rules ! hearns after the leonard moved up a weight and never knocked out an opponent for 4 fights !! as i said before hagelr loved fighting the smaller fighter ! duran hearns mugabi leonard ! roy jones moved up and proved it !! hagler never did against any fighter ! loved fighting in his comfort zone against the smaller fighter !! hagler was a bully who got tamed by a master boxer lol

  • You do know Leonard freely admits he tried to get an unfit Duran in the ring for the rematch? What kind of fighter does that? Best to best, Duran spanked him.

What sort of fighter goes to such great lengths to stack the cards in his favor the way Leonard used to do? Contracted weights, glove size, ring size, number of rounds, timing of the fight. A bully perhaps?

  • leonard started his pro career at 140 ! hagler was a middleweight as an amatuer !! in my book thats a naturally bigger boxer !! leonard still won

  • and Duran started his career at 126, moved up two weight classes. Roberto showed Leonard by the second round who the boss was and made him go from Sugar Ray leonard to Spaghetti legs Leonard

  • post press conference !!i quote hagler i really hate the fact that they took it away from me and gave it to sugar ray leonard of all people !! thats bitterness in my world lol

  • Wouldn't you be bitter after losing a fight you didn't really lose, in conditions highly favorable to your opponent, to a man whose previous antics showed him to be a first class jerk, and knowing he would never rematch you?

  • you should know the feeling , your man lewis was robbed in new york against holyfeild so you claim hypocrite lol bahahahahahahahahahahahahaha and by the way i won money on the fight lol bahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • leonard always had the mental edge over hagler even in the early 80's !! hagler was in his prime in 1983 and struggled with duran who was fighting 13 pounds above his best weight !! hagler looked good against decent fighters !! but none them had the skill of sugar ray !! and if anything hagelr had a better chance of beating leonard in 1987 when leonard only had 1 fight in 5 years !! true greats always have a way to defeat in to victory ! boxing is mental as well as physical !!

  • On the contrary, it was Hagler who had the mental edge over Leonard. Leonard could have faced a prime Hagler and chose not to, only resurfacing when Hagler started slipping and even then he secured unprecedented pre-fight conditions. Then afterwards Leonard scuttled back into retirement instead of making the rematch, again only resurfacing after Hagler had retired for good.

  • what are you taliking about you idiot !! hagler was a full 13 pounds heavier than leonard !! hagler never had the guts to move up and fight michael spinks who called on hagler numerous times to move up and fight him !! hagler loved to fight the smaller man !!! as far as i am concerned hagler was a bully who got tamed by the naturally smaller fighter !!

  • You said Leonard had the mental edge over Hagler. A guy who had the mental edge wouldn't have stayed in retirement for years, wait until his opponent was slipping, and then skulk back into retirement instead of making the rematch.

Spinks a 6'3" future heavyweight champ who dwarfed Hagler, whereas Hagler and Leonard were virtually the same size. Leonard's walkaround weight was close to 160, he just trained down to 147.

Btw, didn't Leonard get busted up a naturally smaller fighter?

  • yes he did that why hagler lost !! tryed to outbox leonard lol !! also hagler always had a chip on his shoulder regarding leonard sparkling career !! jealous comes to mind !! fulgencio obelmejias was 6'3 !! same weight diffenece spinks 175 hagler 160 hagler 160-leonard 147 !! naturally bigger !! hagler thought he would walk through leonard easily !! boy was he wrong and so was you !! a better boxer who proved it on the night !!

  • What sparkling career? That a scabby split decision over a declining legend in favorable conditions is seen as the highlight of Leonard's career should tell you all you need to know about it.

If Leonard really wanted to prove who was better he would have faced a prime Hagler, or at least had a rematch. He didn't. Just like he never gave Hearns or Benitez meaningful rematches. He even had to get an underprepared Duran in the ring to beat a past prime blown up lightweight!

  • i mean hearns duran benitez all in the space of 2 years !! 79-81 hagler let me think caveman lee ,obelmejias, antuerfermo, sypion, lol thats why he was jealous and bitter about leonard ! and spinks was the same weight comparison as as hagler leonard ! you think walked around at 160 lol

  • Exactly, 2 years. The guy's prime career lasted a nanosecond, with everything after that nothing but padding. He was thoroughly spanked by an old blown up lightweight, lost most of the rounds he fought against Hearns and had controversial wins vs Benitez and Hagler, without rematches. Some legend!

You think Leonard weighed 147 all the time?

  • speak with marcus geraldo who he thought would win the fight !! he knows he boxed both !! sugar ray he is more refined he has more class a better boxer lol as for rounds you seem alittle dumb so i will educate you about this !same gloves as for hagler- hearns same amount of rounds for the hearns and mugabi fights !! 12 rounds so thats your excuses put to rest i think ! hagler never complained about those fights because he won lol sore loser

  • I hate to tell you you're wrong buddy as you seem the insecure type. But that fight was in the biggest ring in the championship history, complete with Ray Charles as one of the judges. It's also well attested that the Hagler camp sought a 15 round fight.

So what, everyone thought Leonard would spank Terry Norris and look what happened there? Chickens always come home to roost, and that was Leonard's comeuppance!

Btw, if Ray was really the better boxer, why ignore Hagler's pleas for a rematch?

  • you would pick a loser like Geraldo to quote. Marcos is a dumb fuck that could never get past the humber ten spot. You're an even dumber fuck for valuing his opinion

Listen, all Geraldo ever good for is for someone to step over him. Like Hearns when he fight him I wonder why fight a worhtless bum like Geraldo? We all know he's going to lose! And he dont dissapoint. 7 times ko'd in the first round alone and you still want to quote a loser's loser!

You ought to be embarrased for enodsing him

  • @FlaviusConstantius Leonard once was something "Special" but its a fact he avoided the dangerous guys like Hagler. Another fact is Leonard was so badly man-handled by one of his sparring partners and totally embarrassed he had Angelo Dundee fire the guy. The guy was a complete unknown slapping around the Golden Child of the boxing world. The poor guy got fired...but no worries ...AARON PRYOR ended up doing alright in his next job.

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER quit lying faggot, that never happened. Aarron pryor was his sparring partner way before Leonard got with Angelo. and he was never on Leonards Payroll.

  • @InternationalBoy Boy I would beat your ass if you had the balls to say that shit to my face. Just be glad for thesafe harbor of your computer so you never have to back up your fucking rants pussy!

  • Hagler looked like a punching bag that round.

  • Leonard won! wanna bet

  • Hagler won.

  • Leonard won....

  • 0:27 I have the shivers when I see Leonard get out of his corner with that flurry.

  • @cizer77 Your a little bitch then. Go watch tennis.

  • HAGLER won this

  • Close fight but Leonard won.

  • I had it just the opposite with Hagler winning,, which is the proper view. Leonard just didnt do enough. The judge were always against Hagler and with Leonard except when it came to the Norris fight.

  • ray won lol

  • which is the proper view...

stupid, who do you think you are, some kind of god ? there is no proper view about this close fight, no wonder it's a split decision

  • Hagler won

  • I think Hagler just gave away too many rounds. Had it 7-5 Leonard. Prime for prime I don't give Leonard much of a chance though.

  • What happened Piglatin, why did he give up?

Well, I think he got insulted becuz I called him a liar. Not only that but i dont believe ANYTHING he tells me

  • aww, I think I hurt the poor dumbass's feelings, made him go home crying to his Mommy!

PS, dont take it too hard, I'm just trying to rub it in

  • look at the video. his legs were gone, and he was getting pummeled. he came back out of no where. he was a true champion

  • If his legs were gone, what was he doing running around the ring in round 12? Stop fabricating. You insult my intelligence when you do so.

  • you insult intelligence. period. it's called a second wind. read a science book. it's when you get a sudden burst of adrenaline.

  • I know more science than you too. How much science can you possibly know if you havent figured Ray beat Tommy 1 time. That's just incredibly dumb. Either that or dishonest. I think it's dishonesty becuz nobody could be that dumb. Who knows what else you tried to lie to me about, except it didnt work becuz I'm too smart for any SRL fan deception. Now you've been reduced to a humilated, babbling incoherent dumbass and reduced further to one word-"duh". Serves you right for opening your big mouth

  • history speaks for itself. it doesn't need an idiot-fuck like you. he beat hagler, hearns, and made duran quit. that's all fact and public record. he's known as one of the all time greats. any historian will attest to that. fact. camacho, hector, norris, are loser bums like you, fact. my last comment. i won't respond anymore. I won, you lost. goodbye, pig.

  • Public record includes many historic ring ripoffs like Whitaker-Chavez, Ali-Young, Hagler-leonard, Escalera-Everett, and Fox-lamotta to name just a few so why should I care about public record? and dont get so mad becuz you're losing the debate. telling me "I wont respond no more". You've been badly outclassed from the start and it's only going to get worse. I told you this would happen.

    PS: I like doing this!

  • Even when ray summoned some courage for a 1984 comeback people were still asking about a Hagler fight. The fight was so old hat by then that hagler didnt want to bother answering it. Like the rest of us, he recognized that he was dealing with a little chicken of a man waiting to grow some balls so he could climb in the ring with him. Hagler even said after the Scypion fight in 83 that Ray was waiting for the right time. unfortuantely, no one saw it coming so late in hagler career.

  • finally, he wasn't a "weakling." you're a very desperate, ignorant, no life having, old man, who will hate leonard for the rest of his life because he beat the odds when it counted the most. you must have lost a lot of money betting against him, huh?

  • No, actually I won money and have NEVER lost money on Ray Leonard. I won money on the first Duran fight. The First Hearns fight also as well as Lalonde, and in the Norris fight I won a shitload of money! I also made out very well on the Camacho fight.

Didnt see him beating the odds did you?

as for moving up in weight, it doesnt really seem so impressive when you keep in mind his poor performance in the Norris fight, held at 154. Isnt he supposed to fare even better at his natural weight??

  • yeah, you did. i bet you lost a shit load. and don't tell me you actually bet on ray for the first hearns fight?
