Junkman, you rock. I have been learning so much from your vidieos. Adams is good stuff and thanks for having aloha and sharing with us all. I knew nothing of the buffer and you explained so good. You lika take break from snow for warm Hawaiian sun.
As far as I am concerned, the older PC and the XP are the same. I know the differences between the two but as far as performance, I haven't seen any difference.
Junkman Thank you your vids are the best. i just bought my 2010 Mazda GT and plan on keeping in pristine condition thanks to Adams products and your experiences and knowledge. Thanks again brother.
So after watching your other videos and the videos on adams fourms. Why didn't you prime the pad with DS before you applied the SHR to the hood? Also you spread SHR on the hood with a setting of 1 on the PC. On other videos of yours, you just directly go to a setting of 5 on the PC and work it in on to the finish. Can you please explain? You do a fantastic job by the way!
The temperature had a lot to do with it. The first video that you are talking about was filmed in the middle of the humid Kentucky summer and I had used that same pad earlier that day.
The second video was done in the winter on a relatively new pad and cold car. I also didn't spread the product around on a setting of 1 because I wasn't using nearly as much product as I did in the first video you saw. Furthermore, I was concentrating on product order of use and not necessarily my technique.
As you learn to do this and actually put in a lot of hours with the polisher, you will begin to realize when you can change up some things. Only experience will teach you this.
It is always safe to do so. The worst that will happen is you'll end up with a line of product slung 360 degrees around the area that you're working, including you if you forget to turn it down.
hey junkman, its me again, sorry for all the questions!
I just got my 7424xp and I noticed you mentioned the washers that are included with the 7424 video, I have 2 washers in my XP, one is larger than the other one.
That I have never seen before. I want to say to use the smaller one as the washer you use is kinda small. It would be best that you contact me over at Adam's Forums (Google it), so that you can post a picture of both. Create an account over there and shoot me a PM with a picture of both. My user name over there is Junkman2008.
There is no lubing that I am aware of. I have had my older PC for 2.5 years and it is still going strong. The main thing you need to look out for is the extension cord that you use being the wrong gauge.
Junkman, you're videos are exactly what the weekend detailer needs - nice work! I'm trying to decide between the PC and Griot's 6". The thing I like about the Griot's machine is that the handle is at the top of the machine. Also, I've heard that it vibrates less than the PC. Is the PC's vibration solely because of the washer not being installed? Thanks.
The vibration has nothing to do with the washer. The vibration is totally dependent on the size of the backing plate, pad and counter-weight. With that said, I have found that the ONLY difference between the Griot's 6" and the new PC is the location of the on/off switch, price and that handle you mentioned. Other than that, the new PC and the Griot's 6" are EXACTLY the same machine. It looks like you can't go wrong with either. Anyone's claim about one being smoother that the other is unfounded.
In these videos, I'm using the older PC. In my next videos, I'll be using the newer PC. I used them side by side for 4 days straight and I can honestly say that I noticed zero difference in the power.
Ok, that's good to know. For the novice like myself, the power difference appears to be negligible, anyway. Also, my cars are Hondas, and I've heard that the clear coat is fairly soft on Hondas. So, I probably don't need a ton of cutting power. I found a brand new original for $80, so I'll probably end up picking that up.
Thanks for the compliments. The weekend detailer is exactly who I target my videos to. As a weekend detailer, you too can get professional results just like the pro's do without giving all your money to the "professionals". Thanks for watching.
There is a reason that their prices are so much higher than everyone else. All of the Adam's product line are MADE IN AMERICA!
Everything, the whole kit and caboodle. That means Americans staying employed while your Lake Country and the likes are sending those jobs overseas. Do you know how hard it is today to find stuff that is American made only? Look at everything around you right now and I bet you'll be hard pressed to find 5 things surrounding you that was made in America.
That dedication to America is hard to find and Adam himself takes great pride in the fact that he follows that thinking. It makes it hard for us to find everything that we would like to offer but that's his promise and he won't deter from it.
I only do this if necessary. There is no given time interval as everyone's situation will differ due to what the car is exposed to and whether or not the car is garaged or not. You just have to inspect your finish and determine when it is necessary for you.
One thing for sure, once your paint is corrected, you should never have to keep hitting it with the orange pad and SHR. Just a touch up with the Fine Machine Polish and the white pad should take care of any minor issues.
The yellow pad, supposedly with heaviest cut. I actually tried it out myself and did a comparison vs. the orange pad and it will make it a decent job if you only have time for one pass.
You always have time for more than one pass. If you don't, do it later. There is no need or want to cut off more clear than necessary. That won't do anything but create a date with the paint booth in the near future.

Great video Junkman, excellent video of new users of polisher. Just a little question did you wet the pad before applying the polish?
Again great job on the video

In this video series, I was working in my garage on a cool night. I had no issues with the polish and thus did not have to spritz the pad.

@Junkman2000 Thanks, that makes sense. Since I'm not experienced enough, should I spread SHR on a setting on 1-2 and then work the polish at a five?

Hey I got a question, I heard from a friend that he read somewhere saying that the PC needs to be sent back to be greased, checked, etc.
Did you ever have to perform maintenance on your PC to keep it going? How long have you used the PC for?
Thanks in advance!

Dude! The vids are Great !!!!
But I just checked out the Adams website....man, they are very proud of their products....way over-priced!
Their pads are $3 more than Lake Country's,
a gallon of "green" wheel cleaner is $40 when you can buy a gallon of Simple Green (same type cleaner) for $15.
No wonder you're hyping them so much!

You say you tape off around the hood.. So you don't clay/polish those parts?
BlobbyBowdenGeezer 2 years ago
I only tape them off before I polish the car. The tape is on the inside of the seams, not the paint.
