  • Beef probably increases performance due to the huge amounts of hormones produced by these animals , even naturally and all you want...

  • lol we have about the same schedule. i do have my last meal - cottage cheese - around 12:30 or so.

  • ian,eat beef pre workout..it really does make a slight difference

  • u going against the grain talkin to these roid heads man. wit all your science knowledge i assumed u promoted the natural lifestyle.

  • @PhysiquesOfGreatness Drug use is a personal choice sir. Phil does what he has to do to be the best.

  • @LiftingForLife yea i guess u got a point man. that dude is gettin paid damn good jus to workout. i wish i could bodybuild fulltime

  • @genobli282 Yep, plenty do.

  • How are you talking to Phil Heath?

  • @HomicidalDavid Twitter

  • Performed on you and why you feel better at the gym.after you eaten beef in ur diet. without science its heresy.

  • Until scientific analysis is performed we wont know for sure.

  • @MrlovaBhalla Performed on what?

  • You play the role of a confident intellectual, but, I can read the script. A lot of supplements on the market are catered to people with very little knowledge on body-building. Some products are better than others due to the quality and intended constituents found in them. At least Phil is being as honest as he can, and is not lying by promoting products knowing he's not natural.

  • @crazymike1706 Sure he's being honest, but his advice is still incorrect... so he's not really helping anyone.

  • Beef is packed with b vitamins. Thats why you feel energetic.

  • @MrlovaBhalla Doubt it, I get plenty of B vitamins elsewhere.

  • @LRMMcDonnell the issue is, you're assuming Ian started working out at his current size and made 0 progress. Ian isn't competing with anyone but himself. He states in previous videos that he started out much smaller. He's gained noticeable size since then. Maybe the weight he lifts is light to you and heavy to him? Who's to say Ian isn't challenging himself? Genetics vary between individuals. Ian's knowledgeable. If needed, he could back his statements with references.

  • @LRMMcDonnell are you saying the pre and post workout meals are irrelevant? We shouldn't make meals before and after? Lol?

  • What exactly is white rice good for? They say it gives you an energy spike and a crash.

  • -ian owns heath...

    -heath unsubbs :P

  • and how do you know that you were really talking to phil heath. every time that ive heard phil heath speak he has been very well spoken.

  • 2:38 - You practically just dissed Phil Heath.

  • @LRMMcDonnell You are not cogent and have no point.

  • >claims bodybuilding knowledge overlord

    >pre/post workout meals

    pick one

  • @LRMMcDonnell That makes no sense.

  • @LiftingForLife what do you think about the milk + squats program. Ive been drinking a half gal. a day and doing squats twice a week. all my lifts have gone up after doing this for a week

  • How is complete amino acid profile necessary for optimum muscle growth? Have they proven in studies that taking protein quantity based on complete amino acid profile actually leads to optimum muscle growth?

  • @kriegpaolo I'm going to assume you're not serious.

  • @LiftingForLife sorry I'll change the question. If say we consume 200 g of protein per day, what is the minimum amount we should take for each essential amino acid profile?

  • What's with the post workout shakes?

  • In a previous video you said that you rate: Carbs>protein, and in another you say that carbs are used for glycogen replenishment. Purely seeking knowledge here, but can't other macros other than carbs replenish glycogen? They claim carbs are to "fuel" a workout, but digestion takes hours, and protein and fat can be used for energy. there is also no apparent scientific consensus on carbs aiding muscle building post workout. My ultimate question is, why do we need carbohydrates?.... at all?

  • @utukk We don't. They are a non-essential nutrient.

  • @LiftingForLife Yes I know that I usually cite the Eskimos living for no carbs for 12months +, but In terms of lifting, hypertrophy, why you are eating 3 cups of rice, how/why some claim you need carbs to get stronger/anabolism. Thanks

  • @utukk Energy and performance.

  • @LiftingForLife And what makes the carbs superior to say protein or fats for energy usage?

Considering more than 90% of a hypertrophy workout is spent resting, do you still need carbs to actually lift? This seems counter intuitive.

You'd have my vote for a literature review of the best macro nutrient ratio

  • I just moved out to my first apartment and I'm putting together a daily diet since I'm buying all my food now. I'm trying to hit 3k+ cals right now and trying to bulk. You're going for size gains, yes?

  • @SwoleOnCoffee Yes.

  • Ian please answer your logic behind this. How can you say not to trust Heath or however you said it and to trust people who study it? Heath is a SPONSORED pro which means most likely his sponsors provide nutritionist w/ DEGREES in nutrition as well as a trainer along with his personal experience which result in his mr olympia title. yes he may be on roids but roids alone dont cut it. So how can you hint saying to listen to "someone" aka you on nutrition, when you currently are in no place to say

  • @AlpineIcon600 Are you serious?

  • @LiftingForLife yes im not trying to hate or start anything with you. just simply having a conversation. if you explain yourself i would appreciate it so i can know where you are coming from

  • @AlpineIcon600 What do I need to explain?

  • @LiftingForLife it just seems to me you "took a shot" at heath saying he knows nothing of nutrition. so i just want to know why you would say that. again all i want is to know where you are coming from when you said that also with all due respect on how you feel you know so much about nutrition. are you currently studying nutirtion in school? cuz if you are then obviously you would have more knowledge base than to someone else who isnt

  • @AlpineIcon600 His knowledge of nutrition is clearly poor.

    And no, I'm not.

  • @LiftingForLife for all purposes his knowledge may be poor. he may know nothing in terms of nutrition himself. But obviously he had to know what worked for him in order to get a pro card/sponsors even with steroids. And surely now that he reached the level he has in the bodybuilding world he has nutritionists to help him with nutrition. i see where you are coming from so hopefully you see why i said what i said. thanks

  • @AlpineIcon600 you dont have to go school to know shit. just sayin

  • To the people questioning Ian's caloric intake... Everybody's energy needs are different (calorie=energy measurement) I personally can't eat above 3,000 without gaining a significant amount of fat quickly. Obviously my energy needs aren't that high. On the other hand someone else who has a hard time gaining weight needs to eat much more for their body to gain weight. Obviously they have high energy needs.

  • I don't know man, the beef doesn't look grassfed, obviously injected with synthetic hormones, plus the insulin spike from the white rice, you are going to get estrogen belly and tits, no chick is going to hit on you ever. Then obviously 5000 calories is too much for you because I said so. Okthnxbye.

  • I dont trust that 5000 - 6000 calories a day is right, can you do a video explaining why you may need to take that much?

  • @raikkonenowns1 What do you mean you "don't trust"?

  • @LiftingForLife it means u can't be eating 5000 calories a day. unless you're seariously excersising all day long.

    something is off here Ian.

Phelps eats during his season 8-10,000. Pro runners eat 3.5-4000

how in the hell can u eat 5k?

  • @UpalKashey Well, I am. It's as simple as that.

  • @LiftingForLife *sigh...well i guess ppl have to just accept it or leave it

  • If you wanna ask someone about nutrition, ask the guy who consumes 750g of carbohydrates a day.

  • In regards to the Q/A with Phil Heath, I was under the impression that per 100g, beef has a much better amino acid profile than whey. While whey definitely has its place in a BBing diet, it is still a supplement, to meet protein requirements, whilst the rest should be filled out by whole, unprocessed foods, no?

  • how can you be sure it was actually phil heath in person responding to ur email?

  • didnt you just finish bashing marc lobliner and barthel for the grass fed beef? now your praising it?

also, how exactly did u have a q&a with phil heath?

  • Is there a reason why you haven't answered any of the calorie questions? I'm not trying to be a dick, I just want to hear your response because you are obviously a bright guy, but I don't understand why you are eating 300 grams of protein a day when in one of your previous videos you stated all you needed was .8 - 1.2 grams per body weight.

  • @JimboJ1981 Actually I've answered all of them.

  • @JimboJ1981 Try eating 5000kcal a day from whole foods and see what your protein intake lands at..........

  • Nice job man. You're basically schooling everybody on YouTube. lol

  • A video on sleep would be good.

  • Good vid

  • Mr. McCarthy. I love your videos and have learned very much from you. thank you for making them.

  • @jenny17322 Thank you for watching them.

  • can you do a video on your fitness goals whatever they are,to explain why u eat how u do?

  • How the are you eating 5000-6000, even at your weight, your maintenance is probably no more than 3000, surely that much calories is excessive and the majority of weight gains will be stored as fat?

  • @vietsoulx What, exactly, makes you think that you know more about my energy needs than I do?

  • @LiftingForLife it is a fact, many studies have shown that an average male at the age of 25 needs around 2000-2500 calories a day (depending on body composition). i don't understand how you need 2500-3500 more calories per day, as you don't perform any extrem sports or heavy physical labor. 1000 calories in addition to the 2500 seem reasonable for moderate lifting - so how did you get to 6000? and please don't just say "experience", explain it.

  • @ActionCutter This is the best way i think i can put it at the moment. The average shoe size for male is lets say 10 but that does not mean there are not guys out there that need 16 or 5. But i will agree hearing that he eats that much does not make much sense. I eat about 2700 and im 6``3 200 pounds and i am eating enough to gain a little weight each week.

  • @LiftingForLife Why troll?

  • @vietsoulx 3000? I'm a 125lb female eating 3000 calories. Are you serious here?

  • @jenny17322 pwned!

  • @vietsoulx circle-jerks burn a lot of calories

  • Idk I can agree with you on certain things, but when you troll Pro's to try to look cool on youtube it seems kinda like a douche bag move to me... they obviously know what works for their bodies and everyone is different when it comes to proteins, carbs, fats ect.

  • @Matthew2185 Asking a legitimate question is not trolling. And no, they don't know anything. They are genetically blessed, work hard and inject lots of drugs as instructed by their coaches.

  • How much EPA/DHA would you recommend per day?

  • @ybbolb 3g/day for males

  • i eat "clean food" and get my micronutrients from microvit, U MAD ?? ..... trololololololol

  • @GusMartin2 ur a retard.. Now lets fight like children and call eachother names. Ur a fucking sad kunt

  • Ian McCarthy ---> The Christopher Hitchens of Natural Bodybuilding.

  • @LTMagic21 inb4 ian dies?

  • 5000 to 6000 is a lot man, how long are you on this diet? If I was you I'd go easy on the carbs especially if you want some muscle definition... Why do you train so late ?

  • Omfg wow did I really just read "the average male caloric intake"??? Wtf?!! What is wrong with people?! Lol yea dude everybody needs the same amount of cals. Omfg Ian idk how u put up with this!! Obviously ur dumb Ian since u dnt follow the "average male caloric intake" lololololol I'm fucking dying

  • Its good to see you have contacts with Phil Heath.

  • 5000 - 6000 calories a day seems like alot but I guess you know what you are doing

  • a good amount of sleep does the body good

  • I don't eat a lot of beef but when I do I prefer grass fed.

  • this meals video are actually in the twins page and im like people are commenting here dont know shit about science but this retards are keep posting shit about bodybuilding. im like come on people.

  • all these kids talking like the same diet works for everyone, that is such a big common misconception. everyones biochemistry is different, some people work better with a carbohydrate dominant diet and some work better with higher proteins and fats. trying to put a cookie cutter standard for everyone is just ignorant.

  • @TeaJhey are you saying not everyone loses weight in a calorie deficit? Thats what it comes down to.

  • ian you think you could start linking research articles relevant to each video when you post them?

  • What a phucktard.

I eat 2500 cal by lunch

  • troll theme here: you dream bulking sir?

  • "Knowledge is stored in the brain, not the muscle" - Some quote I read on youtube somewhere lol..

  • @SnapCity1 haha epic

  • PHIL HEATH? how the hell did you come in contact with him?

  • i believe that beef has a creatine. maybe thats why i perform better too

  • @DailyBenaid bro, hardly hahahaha. Look at the amount of creatine per 100g of beef, its minute.

  • Thats a ton of carbs.

  • hey man i just saw your video in hodgetwins fan page and i want to ask you personally because i am curious about the macros. should i take more carb? i am 5 11 and 180 lbs and i want to pack some muscles. thanks

  • most of my food is highly processed and has little micro nutrient value. never eat veggies or fruit. I simply take a good multi, a good fish oil and eat let the rest fit my macro nutrients. problem????????

  • @greekism You serious?

  • @LiftingForLife I'm dead set, I eat heaps of Mcdonalds, Nando's and kebabs. why would it be a problem if my mico & macro needs are met?, it don't how it would although I might be asking for a future disease with the overload in free radicals from preservatives, additives etc. serious question, question is serious

  • @greekism Haha thats a fucking retarded question..

  • how many grams of carbs do you eat in one day? It seems like alot

  • @42jmach 750-850 lately

  • @LiftingForLife U can't be serious? You clearly know nothing if you can't get this right. That accounts to 3000-3400 calories a day just from carbs. The average male caloric intake is 2500. Twinmuscleworkout made a similar mistake and your trolls jumped all over it like hot potato sauce.

  • @LuckynumberSlevin11 I am eating 5000-6000 calories per day.

Would you like for me to block you now?

  • @LuckynumberSlevin11 Lol, I'm pretty sure any somewhat knowledgeable person would jump all over their mis-informative video. And you're claiming that Ian has trolls? I'm pretty sure the Bitch twins' videos always have a top rated comment referring to Ian. Do you see us posting shit about the twins on his videos? No, so GTFO.

  • @LuckynumberSlevin11 you noob go watch barbies

  • @LuckynumberSlevin11 LOL...Owned.

  • @LuckynumberSlevin11 He is eating that many calories because his caloric maintenance is that high. You obviously have no understanding of science. A person can eat 5,500 calories to bulk if there maintenance is 5,000 calories. And a person can get cut up and lose weight eating 4,500 cals if 5,000 cals is there maintenance. Are you understanding now?

  • @Liftfforglory211 He's clearly a fucking idiot and I don't bother interacting with idiots so I blocked him. Done and dusted.

  • @LuckynumberSlevin11.

What's your point? The average male intake has absolutely nothing to do with an individuals subjective caloric needs, that's just idiotic to say.

I'm 16 yo, i'm taking in about 5k calories right now, i'm still under 10% bodyfat and i'm a mesomorph, if i would eat 2,5k calories a day i could barely substain my muscle mass and gaining something would be extremely hard, maybe possible just because i'm a teen.

  • @LiftingForLife ru bulking?

  • grass fed. its important bruz

  • hi why do u try and get heaps of fat in your meals?cheers

  • ". . . Or really,. . Anything in this case" Haha. You seriously have people out there that lift all wrong and eat like shit and look good. People take advice from these guys. I'm not speaking phil heath but just in general. Size doesn't mean knowledge. It actually pisses me off how much people say " well he's really big or cut" then you have people actually training there asses off and " they don't lift"

  • Awesome videos. How much time did you dedicate to studying up on all this stuff? Do you have any leisure time and video gaming, or do you just devote all your time to reading?

  • @AstuteClass I don't really have free time. All of my time goes in to food preparation, eating, lifting, school, reading books for my various classes, talking to clients, filming and uploading videos, answering questions on NBB/Youtube/emails etc and the time that's left over I put in to my independent studies of philosophy/morality/existentialism/antitheism etc. I find video games to be a waste of time at this point in my life to be honest.

  • I only eat a cup of rice a day is that not enough rice?

  • @Gooknukem You don't have to even eat rice if you don't want to.

  • @LiftingForLife but man!! 3 cups of rice is intense!

  • Whay do you train so late?

  • @burbuliukai Gym is empty, easy to make sure I eat enough all day.

  • yo

  • @jdmlvn Yo!

  • PHILL TROLLED YOU TROLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • @BuiltFitness Interesting. I'll look in to that. I've definitely noticed a difference but I genuinely wasn't sure if it was placebo or otherwise, and if it was legitimate then I couldn't come up with a good explanation for it. Thanks!

  • I bet Phil's fanboys over on BB.com will be getting pretty mad... Lulz, phaggots...

  • @OtisBDriftwood54 lol, yeah, Supercows will cry for sure

  • have you noticed significant mood improvement from st johns wort or fishoils?

  • @MaXXXXX2 I'm not sure. I've been taking them both for years so I don't remember that far back LOL

  • Any more of the interview with Josh Hyaduck to come?

  • @xWMxDixy Yep.

  • @LiftingForLife Shouldn't you be bigger for working out 3.5 years and with that diet? Assuming you were consistent

  • @MaXXXXX2 I started off anorexic at 94 pounds.

  • @LiftingForLife Do you have any progress videos/pics? Good vids btw.

  • You should post up your macros for the day if you haven't when you do the last video

  • @SkyeKingdoM I will!
