I eventually found a fix for the guided weapons failing in the AGA version when you start controlling a flight... Also just once in my life I witnessed a ZSU-23/4 firing real fast (every 2 seconds) and it was on GVP A1230 Turbo+ Series II... now I have a Blizzard 1260 and it fires like every 10-20 seconds... This and A-10 Tank Killer are the resons the A1200 still sits on my desk... to fill the gap between Battlefield 3 and DCS A-10C... :)))
Why cant they still make great simulation games like this?
Must be an untapped market for us 30-40y/old guys. Sombody should bring out a package with all the Microprose games like Gunship 2000, F19, Spectrum Holobyte Falcon 2.0 + 3.0, Red Storm Rising etc
I had this for my Commodore Amiga 500Plus - it was a birthday from my father. I also used it on my Commodore CDTV :) I still have the original manual on my sheft :)
I tried it on WinUAE (Emulator) - but it was not the same.
this is amiga 500/600 version i recognise it....great!!! spend many hours on this game and gotten ti retire brigade genaral completing both scenario....
@daanhero I also retired as a Brig. Gen :-) I had 2 seperate copiess of Disc 3 /4 for the Amiga 500 version, to load a full roster of just Persion gulf pilot sets and a seperate Europeean campaign :-) game was absolutley fantastic :-) The choice of helicopters and weapons was excellent..
Considering the amount of detail in this game it had a fantastic frame rate :) I was playing it my Amiga 1200 at the time but it didn't seem to make a difference what CPU you had in it, it seemed to always run at the standard rate of an Amiga 500/600 and i found this to be definitely true when i upped my Amiga with an 030@50.
@blade004 Yes, that's because most 3D games for Amiga where synced for the CPU speed rather than an internal clock. Faster CPU makes it go faster, not smoother so therefore the speed was set to lowest. Most games where written for the 7MHz/1Mb setup. :)
I remember being envious of other friends who had an Amiga when I had my Commodore 64 and 128 computer. Ah, the good old days. I kinda missed those old games, so I built a website on i with tons of free old games you can download.
My favourite Amiga game. I played this to death on my old 600HD. I'd like to pay tribute to my wingmen and second unit, I treated them badly at times ;-)
I never liked this game. It was too unfriendly to get into especially with all the faffing about copying disks which then still wouldn't work properly and the workbench screens. Have Microprose never heard of user-friendliness. Thunderhawk was more fun...
In 1993 I had the Amiga 1200 with sterio sound on the monitor I bought this and it kept going wrong. You had to copy the disks to backups and not use the originals as was clearly stated in the manual. Despite doing as instructed, it still went wrong. I bought Airbus 320 instead and was disappointed with the lack of detail. A runway, a bit of ocean and green was all you got.
i would name the fellow pilots people i knew from school. the one who i didnt like, id shoot down straight away, as fellow class mates - pilots watched and pityed as hed fall to the ground and burn alive
this is scary i can still feel this music in my soul - id hear the loop over and over again during the countless disck changing required in between missions. ohhhhhhh
I enjoyed this game when it was out, it was pretty easy to understand and get into, I used to play it with 2 joysticks on the PC, they should rerelease it with new graphics but leave the gameplay the same.
Makes sense, it is one of my all-time favorites. Just proves that graphics aren't everything ( the Gunship 2000 graphics were great at the time though ) :)
It's really strange but I played, and got more enjoyment out of this game more so than the ultra-high graphic games that we have today if that makes any sense.
how did you took off? I was playing GS 2000 on winuae the other day and i couldn't take off.

Apache Air Assault on PS3 makes this look so dated now but it was brilliant fun at the time, "We're going in........."

Always remember the copilot saying "we're going in" right before a crash, was often the first I knew of it.

Destroying friendly units, eh?
AFAIK, the range of the cannon was 1,5km. You can see this because the crosshair changes to a solid one.

Is this the game where you could choose one of several different helicopters depending on your mission?
I remember playing one back when I had an Amiga 500 but can't remember which of my sims had this feature.
Angarak 3 years ago
Yep. You've seen the helicopters face and could also select the armament.

I was only preparing a demo video so I looked for some quick targets :P
On return from a failed mission I would simply shoot anything, tanks, trees, camels, I would go insane and crash into things too lol

attacking your own tanks? Thats something you did when you were returning from a failed mission and were pissed off, at least with me it was :)
