  • wow. mary b awesome story on 17 again. You and Jess are fine couple. Be well. Much love from the Philippines.

  • i hope jess gets better soon!! xo

  • what are your names on fb hun?

  • I read your 17,again piece - very very well written, love the choice of words used.

Can I just say that.. that basically described my life when I was in high school?

    totally spot on. :)

there aren't really any 'cliques' i guess (maybe it's a tad different in Canada lol) but I too was the same. I was well known mainly for sports and as a leader in school but was a floater between many groups of friends.

    You rock :D

  • i absoultly loved your article <3

  • What are your Facebook profiles?? Thanks for the video and I hope Jess gets better soon!! <3 devoted describer

  • I'm 17, and currently in the process of reading your article. That bit about the student council activist just made me laugh, because I was one too and I was class president last year haha. I can pretty much relate to all of this article, as I am nowhere to be found on the social hierarchy because I'm kind of a floater between cliques haha.

But thanks for the article, Mary! And the one about gay culture too... that one helped me earn an A on my essay :D

  • long live floaters! :)

  • hi maryb im only 16 but reading your article made me happy, times have changed and Im a very different person than you were in high school but i adore how i can still relate to you and look up to you. you are a lovely person and my day can be horrible but you still manage to put a smile on my face.

  • all these vids have some sexy graphics rolling around and some sexy people.....not rolling around

  • Dead on, maryb!

I look forward to your next piece!

  • Heyy. I just bought a sub to FlawLes mag cuz I couldn't resist your cute face.

    :)

  • I felt myself blush when I read "I didn't drive my dad's SAAB to school"

  • Lesbian and glazed donut in same sentence...no Mary...no! LOL!

  • Loved the article, very sweet, also get well Jess from a loyal describer!!

  • that article was amazing! now i have to go find all of your other articles and read those =]

  • thanks sammi. ALL of the other ones? are you trying to butter me up? :)

  • yes every last one. i'm going on a maryb hunt. hahahaha

hey how do i add u on facebook yo?

  • lol im sending both of you an add cause i think you're awesome! :) - Lilly (and i would say which lilly, but im pretty sure u know already :P)

  • Mary B

Great Article once again I just love reading your stuff

    Btw I made a video response :]

    xoxo

    Mikey

  • Wow, that was a very well-written, fun, thought-provoking article, thanks for sharing!

    Feel better, Jess!

  • You mentioned facebook...where are you on there? lol. I tried to find you, but I failed.

I hope you're back to your creme filled, sprinkly doughnut self soon, Jess! (I'm assuming that's what a glazed doughnut would be when it's healthy? lol)

  • If you clicked on the story, you'd know my last name :) And if you guys do pal around on our social networks, give us a one sentence description when you send your add so we recognize your beautimous faces and accept!

  • You're an inspiration to the writer in me.

I wish I could subscribe to flawles! But, I'm 16 and not out in the slightest. So I think my parents would be slighty too curious..

  • Glazed doughnut!! That is just the sweetest analogy! Get well Jess! Read this article yesterday, I love the fact I always have to read your articles a couple of times to fully pick up whatcha layin down! Another fab article MaryB, which had me googling Dave Matthews quotes too (of which I am now a fan)! So double thanx :)

  • Thoughtful article as always. Wish I could compose myself as well as you.

  • haha yay for Purel :P

  • Wow! MaryB looks foxy in a dress :D

  • Great article :) You're a brilliant writer!

  • thanks for reading lelmoo!

  • @marybside i love your article mary b :D

  • You are a fabulous writer, i always enjoy what you write.

    and get well soon Jess.

    Take it easy.

  • Did I see right? MaryB in a dress on that pic... rad

  • get well Jess. we love you!

  • read the article, and i did the 3 sports year round till my senior year, thats when i starting going out with my gf, and doing illegal things. sports prolonged my bad behavior for a good amount of years. <3 basketball

  • mary..

    i've got a question.

I know your last name starts with a B.

but ... why is your user name called marybside? sounds a little like.. mary's little badonkadong side.. hahaha.. ok.. kidding! Hope your little lover gets well again.

  • The B's not for my backside, or some expression of booty for days :) It was a nickname first given to me by my Canadian pal in college. She was a DJ and called me Mary B-side, like the B-side of a cassette tape (remember those?) There's a main A-side of radio-ready tracks, and then the B-sides and rarities -- the offbeat nuggets!

  • Halfway through the article I find myself thinking "why was I never sporty? I should've been sporty! I'm not a real lesbian..." hahah... I guess my queerdom was more evident in my "sickeningly strong aversion to intercourse" and such. Great article, as usual :) thank you.

  • nice article Mary B, im 17 and could definitely relate. it made me think of a lot of kids in my school, my friends, and obviously myself. it even made me laugh a couple times =)

it was a nice way to start an early friday morning right before school.

  • hah I just turned 18 today, but I'll still read it, :)

I love your articles Mary B!!

  • Happy Birthday!!!!

  • Oh man that's exactly how I felt in high school. I thought I was just picky or asexual or SOMETHING. I didn't really put too much thought into it until college. But it turns out i'm probably just a big homo :O

  • just read the article and loved it! i related to that one alot. in fact at times i felt like i was reading an article about MY experience in high school. i'm looking forward to the next article (and video) already! :)

tell Jess i sent a quick prayer up for her, so she should be feelin better in no time! ;)

  • Jess get better!!!!! Mary B, under what name r u in Facebook????

    Hugsssss

  • Poor Nugget LoL Get better Jess !

  • Hope you get better soon Jess!

Big love from England :) x

  • i like when you read 'em.

  • wow mary, fantastic writing as usual :)

your teen years sound pretty darn good. i suck a sports but the one sport that i am half decent at (rugby, haha gay or wut?) i fail at with cheer. i play too many video games, get decent grades, walk to school, have no real rep to my name (good or bad), plan on going into industrial design, listen to indie music, forget things so often im practically disabled, play guitar, wear the same jeans, and have a hyperactive thyroid. pretty much my life.

    <3

  • i will reads your article with pleasure and get back to you when im done. i hope jess feels better soon, i myself have caught the h1n1 and it sucks being sick.

  • "For the record, they have no cats." hahaa nice.

Great article as always Mary B. (I find I always have to add the B. It just doesn't sound like you otherwise)

And I will get at 'facebooking' you guys.

  • I just turned 17... :D

    I hope Jess feels better!

  • You, have amazing writting talent. I really liked it. I hope Jess gets better soon. :]

  • aw hope jess gets better! So we can see both u guyz soon> i kno ur taking good care of her. :)

  • mary ur seriously one of the best writers ive ever read (and i read a lot =). great story, it actually reminds me a lot of my freshman and sophmore year. junior year i became aware & it just kinda all came together.

ps. u should write a book

  • I decided that I like hearing you read the article while I follow along. Maybe that's a throwback to story time, but I think that hearing the author say the words the way they meant them to be said adds a great deal. But that being said, you write with some of the most vivid imagery I've encountered in articles, and that makes it an absolute joy to read. Thanks for sharing it with us :)

  • thank you, love. that's very kind.

maybe we'll have more sessions gathered 'round the reading stool in the video library again soon, just for old time's sake. and for YOU, of course.

  • :) guess we all got the same bottle of Flinstones

  • Finished reading your article. Two words...

    LOVED IT.

I was also amused by the last bit.

    Did you write it?

"Mary Buckheit made her journey to SDGLN from the preppy pastures of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science degree from a Catholic college in New York. She has been working hard as a full-time journalist for ESPN,....Mary currently lives happily ever after in Hillcrest with her sweetheart, Jess. For the record, they have no cats."

  • thanks SO VERY MUCH for not just clicking but reading it, too. and you even read all the way to the very bottom. you, adri are a doll. i appreciate it.

as for the bio. ... how'd you guess? :)

  • Haha no problem. I had this phase throughout tenth grade when I wanted to be a journalist, and you remind me of how I aspired to write when I was in that phase.

Aww shucks now I be blushin'. ^_^

    How'd I guess?

    The last sentence ^_^

  • you seriously are an awesome writer mary b. i loved the article, and shoot you were a captain? that's hot...lol

thanks for the video and letting us know what was going on with you guys...hope jess gets better soon! =)

p.s. - the ninja skills thing cracked me up ^_^

  • Yay! You love me for life ^_^

Love you for life toos! ^_^

  • DUDE! I THOUGHT YOU DIED!

    Not really.

    But SERIOUSLY.

    I ALMOST thought you died.

I'VE BEEN SO SICK TOO! :( Poor Jess. Shoot.

    GET WELL JESS! ^_^

    MARY, STOP DISAPPEARING -_-

  • read the article :D awesome!!

hope jess gets well soon.. poor baby :/

    chamomile tea helps

  • i've read the article... and its very very good. u really have a gift dear.

    hope jess gets better.

  • "DEVASTATINGLY handsome."

  • and modest, too ; )

  • Mary, I'll never cease to say that you're amazing. Loved the article. You have such a way with words. Hope Jess is better soon!

  • Hope Jess gets well soon. I've had the same thing... It's EVIL.

  • i read the article.

besides the usually fantastic writing, it felt highly familiar. i know so many girls who live over-achieving, activity filled, athletic, blissful, blind existences, with no worries greater than what car to drive, or what boy to go after. & most of them won't grow up to realize that they're gay.

when i was little, everyone thought my high school years would be like that, myself included. but things don't always turn out the way we envisioned, i suppose. it's interesting.

  • **and**

many well wishes sent from new york to san diego.

  • holler from here to the hudson river. thanks for your take, technicolor. much appreciated. xoxx

  • glad to hear jess is feeling a bit better! i think i speak for everyone when i say that we miss seeing you every week...but i guess saving the world 1000words at a time can suffice as a legit excuse. hope to see you girls back old-school style soon!! much love xo

  • ps. read the article. love it. coulda ripped the same story right out of my yearbook, well except for the class prez part. i wanted to run but i had a sliiiight dislike for public speaking. yay for "asexual" over achievers!:)

  • Get well soon Jess, Ive been sick too

  • Austen, Dickens, Shakespeare. All names one might rattle off when speaking of their favorite writer. I say nobody compares to Mary B. I tip my hat to you from good old connecticut. Keep up the great articles!

  • :( sending get well vibes your way! and happy guy fawkes day dudes!

  • aw get better jess!

thanks for the new vid maryb!!
