With the intricate arm movements and step sequences of flamenco, why is there not a solid crossover style? Ballet often takes on 'themes' like the hispanic feel of this variation and the eastern exoticism of La Bayadere. I can easily see bhangra ballet, flamenco ballet and chinese/japanese/korean fan dance translated to ballet, but staying true the technical elements of both parties, not just becoming very thematic 'contemporary dance' or 'lyrical-with-pointe-shoes-to-ethnic-music'
I know sylvie guillem has danced kitri too, but palloma's version is the best. she is more 'kitri' than sylvie. of course, before I'm attacked by sylvie's fans: each to their own. bravo!
oh yes, what just delightful, lovely, expressive and gorgeoussssssssssss FEET. Too bad a cement mixer butt and zero artistry go with those sublime, exquisite, good-enough-to-eat, and dandy FEET. Go wash your feet, little ballet newbies.
hi so i noticed u said u did competition dance.. can u please explain it to me? ive been thinking about getting involved too, but im very nervous! ive danced since i was 3 and i love to preform, but i go to Boston ballet, a professional ballet school , so i have mostly training in ballet. to do a competition do u have to go to a special school? also, can u please explain competitions to me in general? thank you!
@KGDance101 well, you can buy the types of pointe shoes which are already broken in ie they have a super soft shank, though i wouldn't suggest them if your feet aren't quite strong. usually, they're made for professionals who don't want to waste time breaking shoes in. if that's not an option, you can always get a new pair of normal pointe shoes and use your hands to break them in; just make sure you break them at the right spot along the shank
she's amazing and her feet are just GORGEOUS i would defiantly love to have feet like that........does anybody have tips to make my ankles stronger (for my pointe shoes)??
@KGDance101 if you practice really slow rises for a few minutes a day, they improve all your muscles for pointe, unless you're training the Vaganova way, that's a different story
@Kata397533 thanks!!!!! i got picked to be in the AAB summer program and i need new pointe shoes but the problem is..... i need to break them in extremely fast!!!!! do you have any suggestions for me?????
p.s. do you do dance,,,,, if you do what kinds???? and thanks for the tip ill be sure to practice!!!!!
the way she moves her body is beautiful i much prefer this to Nina Ananiashvili's version - she has all the technicalities down to a tee but she doesn't let them overshadow the sense of fun and femininity she brings to the stage - im 14 and i've been doing ballet for 11 years - i hope to be like Paloma some day
Omg! Her échappés...and chaînés...and everything! is absolutely amazing!! We did this variation in class one day and it's really fun but also really hard!!
She's the main reason I'm proud of being Argentinian. I'm currently taking contemporary jazz at the same dance studio where she first started ballet and somehow it makes me feel so good knowing that Paloma once was at that same dance classroom.
She has this aristocratic or nobility air when she dances. Some people criticize her for her arms or claim she over works her feet...but I think she is soooo elegant when she dances and her musicality is perfect. When she does the walks on pointe...she truly looks like she is floating. It's amazing. I think her Kitri is MAGNIFICENT.
how can you not like this dancer! she is perfect in technique and grace and her pirouettes are beautiful...i am a dancer and this woman is a great idol!! well done!!
I simply adore this variation and am trying to perfect the way i perform it....I know very well that it won't look as beautiful as when she does it, but I'm not a professional yet and i still have many years to go :)
I've seen many different versions of this variation and i was wondering is this the "original" variation or is this like a "modern" version of it because i love this choreography! :)
why are all the great ballerinas so extremely skinny? and i take ballet 4 times a week including pointe and I'm normal-sized (or whatever word you'd like to use)........i don't feel like I'll ever look as good because I'm not super skinny
@uhscubs13 Professional dancers train every day for hours and usually supplement that training with gym time and an extremely intricate diet plan. Try doing some other non-dance physical activities on days you don't have dance and eat as well and fresh as you possibly can. Hopefully you'll see some improvement!
@uhscubs13 these girls dance probably way over 6 hours a day 5-6 days a week plus rehearsals, eat at a healthy minimum (never plunging on super fatty high cal foods, but fruits and veggies loaded with energy, because they need it) im the "normal size" too and im working on getting a bit more slim & it depends on whos watching to see if it looks good, sometimes those boney girls dont have a lot of grace and fluidity & look dead, so just focus on technique grace & stage presence & you'll look good
What I like so much about Paloma Herrera is her flawless performance quality. She has the perfect air of femininity, grace, and playfulness in this variation, and her musicality is spot-on. And unlike others I've seen do this variation, she seems so...grounded. Not overdoing it. Just putting on a subtle smile and floating across the stage as though it's second nature.
I saw her and Angel Correla perform the full length Don Q. not long after they came to New York. They were astounding. Sold out house, full standing ovation and 17 curtain calls!
I've never seen a ballet dancer who dances Kitri as good as she does. She's just perfect in this role and you can see how much she loves what she's doing.
her hands and arms seem floppy her legs are very strong but she always goes through thing with to quick movements that are supposed to be more swift than she makes them.
i forgot to mention that alina cojocaru is a brilliant kitri too.
its quite interesting to see the different styles done by different companies,i still find the russians to really capture the flamenco style where as the french/paris opera just lose the plot completely.look at what a great dancer du pond is but her kitir lacks finesse.hererra should do better considering she is latin american
but its not even how she moves, she doesnt ever seem to really finish a line, she dosnt get a full extension on her jetes before she lands, there isnt any clarity in her movement
paloma herrera is amzing, i love her! but i will always love natalia osipova as kitri!
