Once you learn how to play pentatonic scales, this video will look much easier to you. From a theoretical standpoint, what he's playing is very simple. From a technical standpoint, the technique is a little more complex but nothing a few hours of practice can't cure.
Great video and demo of the use of pentatonic scales. Lovin' your work!
Pentatonic scales were always my favorite, I should brush up on my scales. I'm a bit rusty but I could of swore a couple of those lines weren't pentatonic scales mixed in there?
@PutzerLovesYou nah..... the pentatonics are used, but I was trying to demonstrate taking a simple pentatonic pattern and beefing it up with passing tones, scales etc. Pentatonics can get old very quickly if not embellished correctly. Thanx for watching
@Raider1stalpha sorry for the quality of the vid dude, No, I'm not using a pick in this vid but there are times when I do use one for certain feels. I will have better vids up soon.... just finishing up an album then I'll get to all this stuff. I'll be happy to answer any question you may have bro!
okay would u mind making like a nice jazz bass solo? I'm a punk bassist anddddddd I'm not in a jazz band at my school and i would like to have something to refer to if its not a problem lol
You could use pentatonic as well as all the other notes on your pallet and still stay melodic. I suggest you spend a little more time on the instrument before you take a jab at explaining my theories kiddo.
I just got through watching all this old video footage of me playing bass in a couple of now defunct bands in the early 90's and remembering how much I miss playing that Rickenbacker.
Keep in mind guys and gals that you should practice standing up as often as possible. An improvisation like this can be tough if your only use to sitting all the time.

The thing you did here was just messing around with the scale...and the only way it works is to put some distortion and make some real mess

Works very nice as an inprovisation!
Only the tone... i'd add some more bass and cut.

Well ... I won't call that melodic ... you used pentatonic scale and some rythm and passing note change.
