When you know you have 2 extra rounds a fighter would be less likely to commit to a submission or go for the KO in the 1st 2nd or even 3rd round because if they don't get it they run the risk of running out of gas and getting KO'd/submitted themselves. Hopefully Dana will think about this! Then again there are people like Frankie Edgar who are absolute beasts for 5 rounds straight...

The solution is a modified early Pride system. If you don't finish, it's an automatic draw, AND you don't get paid. That should motivate them enough I would think. MMA people really made a mistake introducing the traditional point system, it makes for chess games and guys calculating a point victory even before the fight has started. Vale tudo was supposed to emulate a real fight, not be a sport, and you don't properly win a fight on fucking points.

Sonnen's right, if you go all out for the KO for 5 rounds you probably won't even make it into the 3rd without gassing out. One of GSP's best aspects is his strategy and gameplan coming into fights.

But in the end - Silva was on his back for 25 minutes - Chael couldn't finish him - then got finished himself. I don't think Sonnen will be able to pull off the same amazing performance in the rematch... but we'll see.

Sonnen's right, if you go all out for the KO for 5 rounds you probably won't even make it into the 3rd without gassing out. One of GSP's best aspects is his strategy and gameplan coming into fights.
