  • Brings tears....

  • @OriginalUncledirty funny you should say that, that's what I was feeling just as I read your comment

  • I think that Tommy played this the best I ever heard ..... So many can relate to its melody, Man has Tommy got taste ... I have yet to hear anyone on the planet play better . When I listen to other players for a while , its cool ....then when I come back and listen to Tommy , I am astounded that he continually out plays everyone and every thing. He is truly blessed and we are very fortunate to have a man like him amongst us . Thanks for posting and Thankyou Tommy and the You Tube

  • pure genius and at peace with his guitar

  • from 2:20 to 2:45 such a breathtaking instant, you can hear the public just being smashed in the face by so much emotion.

  • If music is a higher form of communication, Tommy Emmanuel is the Shakespeare of it.

  • WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is that a cat's purr at 0:02?

  • @buntonghininga more like an escaping duck, or other winged animal.

  • wish the man would strap on a tele

  • @loopdawgg He does every now and then. Watch Tommy Emmanuel Determination

  • This was recorded at The Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour. You can subscribe to the podcast of it as well. Code is WS562 apparently.

  • WOW!

  • Incredibile!

  • Man, that was nice......two thumbs up bro

  • a very interesting arrangement for this beautiful song. well done!

  • !!!!THE BEST!!!!

  • the number one in the world

  • thats chet atkins. guess u know that if u know tommy

  • 3439ra You love Chet, but no where near as much as the man playing here!

  • lool. i love tommy too. but no where near chet;P just imagine chets repo. the thousand of tunes he has played and recorded. tommy hasnt anything. but he is one of a kind. he got it all from chet. guess you didnt knew that saying otherwise. lol. see some interviews and see what tommy says himself;P his favs are chet and knopfler. he wanted to make an album with mark some years ago but nope. maybe in a few years. get some facts from themself b4 you speak ok! lol!

  • You didn't understand my comment. I made no assumptions about Chet, Tommy travelled to the other side of the world to meet the man, thats enough said in itself. Tommy has written and recorded hundreds of songs. You don't just hand over talent! It is worked on for decades. So this man playing here is Tommy Emmanual, greatly influenced by Chet Atkins it isn't Chet Atkins mate.....he is dead!

  • you didnt understand mine. i didnt say otherwise. lol. and its the same shit if chet is dead or not. that has nothing to do with it. he has and always will be the best guitarist there was. the older he got the better he got. that goes for tommy to

  • haha he tunes his guitar again during the piece, but it just seems normal since he does it all the time

  • it is so incredibly beautiful !

  • Difficult to tell when this performance was, but it was posted in Oct. 2007. See the posting of same song by "sidneyandherbie" of a Nov.07 performance for a more subtle and refined version by TE. If you see this man as only technique, without expressive emotion, then there is no point arguing because you would not know emotion if it hit you in the face. His playing brings tears to my normally cold heart. That is what emotive playing is all about, and TE has it in spades.

  • @rpm4565 ~ I agree with you 100% - freestyling and pouring it straight from the heart. This is Amazing...

  • Any tabs out there of Tommy's version? his harmonies are sweeeet.

  • yep

  • this is an awesome version of amazing grace

  • I personally enjoy seeing a musician like TE playing so lively.

Looking at him play brings a smile to my face... If it doesn't for you, that's fine... But to me, that's what defines TE as himself.

  • i agree hes a amazing player but he figits too much and with all the extra stuff it looses the song cause ive learnt and easier version on guitar too

  • i think that hat is what makes him such a great guitarist, because you can see that he feels the music, and he is entertaining to watch

  • i know you posted your comment about a month ago, but seriously? I can't imagine TE playing any other way. His songs may be complex but that does not mean the song is lost and him moving around is just how he plays, god knows people don't look this stuff up to watch it, they wanna hear it.

Besides I'd bet TE can play anything you want him to, but he puts all these ornamentations on the songs because it makes it fun for him to play.

  • Tabs please? :D

  • Proof there should be an intelligence test people have to take before posting comments.

  • Dude you are an idiot, TE is a freaking genius!

  • It's not only strumming. This particular song contains a bit more strumming than usually, but TE is a great fingerstyle player, and, nobody rational would deny it.

I consider your post to be just a provocation. No one can be forced to love Tommy, I understand this, but also no one can say that he's not great - at least technically.

  • Buddy! ARE YOU WATCHING HIS FINGERS!

Its not just strumming - might i add, when he strums extremely fast its INCREDIBLE - but seriously its not just strumming, he's fingerpicking, he's even doing amazing harmonics, 3:02

If you don't see how this is amazing music, then go listen to your rap shit or whatever you listen to!

  • did you just say tommy emmanuel shouldn't be a professional musician?

you need to end your life

  • With this "music" ending the life would be so easy.

    That version is too phony.

  • when you can play better than TE, come back and try again

  • Ok, you will lynch me now... but I can understand KollaaKestaaYha. I think Tommy plays with to mutch technic an to less feeling. In this song, not in others. He is presenting his skills, but not the song..

    Bob (guitar teacher)

  • sounds like your just jealous of his skills. if you couldn't feel the emotion in that, you either have crappy speakers, or are deliberately not feeling it.

  • First please excuse my bad English! I'm not jealous of anyones skills. I form and develop skills of my disciples. But fastness and finger gymnastcs are not, what you make a good performer. The most of my disciples can play faster than me. They come to learn to bring out the message of a song. TE changed the message of Amazing Grace to the message: Look what a kickass guitarero I am. This he may do with his own songs. But never with a song like this.

Bob (guitar teacher and musical threapist)

  • .no

  • @bobthemage ... if you learnt the first thing about TE and his background you wouldn't truly believe this. He trashes technique because he grew up touring the australian outback with his family learning/playing to make money for next accom/meals. He couldn't afford lessons and invented his own technique copying sounds off old 45 records (esp. his hero Chet Atkins). He used weights to slow them down to copy them better. You can't teach what he has, no matter how good a teacher you are.

  • KollaaKestaaYha ...your kidding right.....you could practice for a 100 years and never be as good as Tommy E.

  • KollaaKestaaYha...please post a video of your version on the guitar.

  • I'm not playing gitar or any other instrument.

  • A real A-m-a-s-i-n-g talent!!!!!!!

  • A phenom, thats what it's like to be at one with your instrument... must be nice

  • sweet!!

  • until about 1:10 where he does some whacky shit, lol, he makes it sound really scottish(bagpipish, lol). and don't call me an idiot, i know this song is actually scottish and played on bagpipes, just a lot of renditions dont really sound like that, this does

  • oh I got it.. the joke is kurt kabang...

  • wow lol...

  • What a treat!

  • yeah arnie? well Tommy is still great and kurt kabang is still dead.. so lemon lip that-

  • lemon lip meh plz!!!

  • yu got to be an idiot if you dont get the joke...

  • haha ??

  • dont even joke!

  • If you're joking that's funny and I think you are. If you're not you're just plain dumb.

  • mindbogglingly great.

  • thank you so much

  • i'm happy. thanks

  • i love how he can go off and do his own thing and then come back in right on time and bring the melody back

  • Tommy Emmanuel is an incredible guitarist and performer, its always funny seeing how he put everything into his playing and he capture his audience right away. Brilliant player.

  • perfection

  • Thanx for sharing this..Beautiful..puts ya in holiday mode

  • amazing guitar!!! but the kinda kick thing he did with his foot was cringy haha

  • talk about playing with heart and soul!!! wow... great video...
