I've been eating vegan for about a year. It's awesome! I too find cheese to be disgusting now. I don't care that much about animal cruelty. I think it's wrong but there are a lot of other horrible things being done to humans today that I pay attention to instead. One of those horrible things is the diet most westerners have pushed on them. If people could switch to being vegan it could help them become much healthier. If people only knew the benefits of a plant based diet.
when we dont eat we need to find a way to stop cows and so on to be bornd because we cannot let these animals getting more babys .. there arent room in the world! the problem with vegans are that they dont understand the whole picture.
@notforchurch This is not a legitimate arguement. We mass produce cows through "articificial insemination" (aka. rape with a turkey baster thing). Without this process, the number of animals would decrease greatly. The only species taking up too much room is humans. Looking at the whole picture, i see cruelty, contaminated water, wasted resources, deforestation, amongst other things, all because of meat production.
cheese is very nutritious and if you buy good cheese no exploitation of animals took place. a mutually beneficial relationship took place. your logic is mistaken, wait for the deficiencies of your lifestyle to manifest and you will eventually understand that
@quinngoes Cheese is not nutritious. Media has led us to think it is the healthiest food on earth, but actually think about it...we are nursing from another species. It is completely unnatural. All cheese exploits animals, because they have to reproduce over and over again in order to keep milk in their bodies...and therefore be separated from their young, just like any other creature...you should research "the humane myth". You will probably be pretty surprised.
Hi! I'm one of those cheese-loving vegetarians you are talking about! Lol! But I agree with what you're saying. And the whole thing about the dairy animals going through more torture than animals killed for meat ...I never thought of it like that.
This is me saying that I am taking you're request! Consider me going on the "Vegan as possible diet!" Lol!
Some people have terrible addictions to animal related products, I know I had them specially with cheese. However after watching "Earthlings" I overcame them and I became a vegan. Thank you for speaking the truth! There's people out there that really want to know the truth. Don't lose faith there's a point where a vegetarian realizes that animal suffering is not a myth and the guilt of taking part on the abuse won't abandon them until veganism sets them free. I just described my own experince :)
@PauHc4E Using animals is exploitation, no matter the method. Commodifying sentient beings for products we don't need can never be cruelty free. But it isn't about cruely anyway, its about justice. Do a google search for "the humane myth" you will be surprised.
I commented on this video quite a while ago, it's funny because I am vegan now! :) It's only been about 4 months but I really enjoy it and feel much better than I did eating dairy and whatnot. And even before being vegan I was vegetarian for a long time!
Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it :) My mom seems okay with me being vegan. Occasionally she tells me I should just be vegetarian, but I try not to let it get me down.
i think its fine that for people to go vegan because they dont want to support cruelty and i agree that it is at least favoravle to eat as low on the food chain as possible, like its better to eat a fish than a cow. but i also think that some people are actually making themselves very sick by trying to compensate with too much beans or soy or other things like "mock meat". it is much better to eat vegitables for the reason that you simply want to be truely healthy. people loose track of that!
i stopped eating meat about two months ago and plan to ration my dairy and animal products to nothing by next year. its hard though, i'm still in the barrage of ridicule stage from my family and boyfrined and if i get anymore cracks about "rabbit food" from them i swear i'm gonna scream. living with a bunch of meat and dairy addicted people makes me feel guilty for doing the right thing. :/
i've been a vegan for about 8 months. I have a problem who share the view point of this woman, mainly because they miss the point. NOT EVERYONE WILL BE VEGAN, believe it or not eating meat is rather natural, and some people will want to eat meat/dairy, no matter what you tell them about the environmental effects, health effects, animal abuse. You shouldn't be so angry with people, be angry at the system, because if most people were educated, and had the opportunity too, they would eat vegan.
I'm 10, and I just became a vegetarian again. I was a vegetarian for two years, and I wasn't healthy, so I started eating locally raised, organic meat. I ate it for about two weeks, and I started to feel absolutely disgusting. I felt guilty, and I felt lazy and gross. So now I'm a vegetarian again, and I already feel much better. Not eating meat can make a big difference in your life, but being vegan can make an even bigger one. When I'm allowed to be a vegan, I will be.
From my own experience, when I was still a lacto-ovo, I wasn't aware enough. So going vegetarian is at least a start, and from there on we can just hope that people will continue to be aware and find their way towards veganism.
By the way, I love nutritional yeast (tastes cheesy) and sprinkle it on my pizza (without cheese) and quinoa. And it's cheap too!
I will be vegan when I'm older, I'm only 15 and my mom is already annoyed that I'm a vegetarian... But do you really have to judge that person who's been a vegetarian for 14 years? I don't think it's fair to criticize them, I mean they stopped eating meat, right? At least they're doing something.
@monicatFLOYD The criticism comes because she is an adult, who has knowledge of the injustice involved in animal use, and who still chooses to consume dairy and other animal products. We shouldn't be asking ourselves if it is fair to criticize the person, but if it is fair that the animals are being exploited.. that is the injustice, wouldn't you agree?
@porolita22 Okay, I see what you mean. Sorry about that. I was just thinking that it's great that they stopped eating meat... but I can see how someone who gets to buy their own food should be able to avoid animal products as well.
Anyways, I really want to become a vegan, and who knows? I might make the leap soon... just need to do some research and find out what I can eat. xD
@monicatFLOYD I understand when someone like you faces challenges with opposition from your parents, as you still depend on them for many things. but when people who CAN go vegan just settle for vegetarianism, there's really no excuse. There is not really much difference between meat and other animal products in terms of the injustice and iherent cruelty... I wish you luck and hope you find your way unto veganism soon :)
@porolita22 Okay, I see what you mean. Sorry about that. I was just thinking that it's great that they stopped eating meat... but I can see how someone who gets to buy their own food should be able to avoid animal products as well.

@monicatFLOYD Her attitude is generally whiney and self-righteous. She is this way in every single video. I'm raw-food vegan and I do not carry it around like a hip on my shoulder. This has become her identity and means to communicate with the world form a posiition of superiority, a neediness masking something else, deeper. She once talked about how she cried because she ws being persecuted for her veganism. V'gnsm can be lived joyfully, and your joy rubs off on others. She thrives on angst.
@monicatFLOYD I'm gonna give you some advice, I went through a similar thing. I wanted to go vegan but was afraid. My sister, family friends and mother mocked vegans. I always used them doing that as an excuse. But after months of guilt I went vegan. When I went vegan I got no support from my mom at first. But I taught her a little about the dairy industry and that I still have a very wide food choice. It help and now she supports me. My advice is to find support online and help you parents....
@monicatFLOYD ...understand veganism. Write a report if you have to. Show them earthlings, or what ever your comfortable with to help them understand your choice. And if it fails and they still won't let you go vegan then still be vegan as possible :)
@monicatFLOYD I have many friends like you Monica. I never criticize them. You don't even come under the category that is being criticized here. understand that. :-). You are trying and trying hard. I have helped my friend get their parents of their back, by telling to to fake lactose intolerance.
Everytime mother forces them to drink milk I told them to run to the toilet and talk to a friend or listen to music. Then complain the milk is giving you diarrhea.Demand a doctor and they will agree
@monicatFLOYD All you have to do it just tell a doctor that you get diarrhea every time you drink milk he won't even bother doing any tests he will tell your parents that you are lactose intolerant and will forbid your parents from giving you any dairy products even those that contain traces of it. So your problem is solved :-)
Hi, I loved this video, I'm sorry to admit, I'm vegetarian. I can't be vegan until I'm in University (my parents won't allow it) But I want you to know that the milk we buy is organic, Its all local, I can't verify if in fact they do support the veal or not (they're super local, not a national brand). I barely eat eggs. I think there are places in my life where I could definetly improve, but I would like to let you know that right now I'm doing the best I can
Just bc you eat meant doesnt mean you are cruel...killing an animal doesnt equal cruealty. Eating cheese doesnt mean you are cruel. If you don't want to eat meat or milk or eggs, fine, its your chioce and if it makes you happy, great..but don't put morals on eating habbits. Its moronic.
@Morethanenough1 Cruel is defined by M-W as: "disposed to inflict pain or suffering : devoid of humane feelings"
Using animals for food requires us to violate their bodies and to harm them. Killing or exploiting people is cruel; same with other animals. Doing so demonstrates a lack of justice and moral respect. So yes, eating animals and animal products is an act of cruelty. Veganism is the only humane response to the cruelty that is animal exploitation.
@Morethanenough1 Do some research. Google "factory farming". Spend some time looking at the photos and reading the information provided. Now ask yourself, "How would I feel if I were put in this situation?". Also realize, that all the suffering is unnecessary. We don’t need animal products to survive. I used to think that we did but clearly, I was wrong. If we did need meat and diary to survive, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because Porolita and I would be dead.
@Morethanenough1 A lot of the worst animal abuse in the world occurs in factory farms. You buy their products, you're supporting the mistreatment of animals. Saying it's moronic to put morals on eating habits is ignoring the facts and refusing to take responsibility.
I am 16, a Vegetarian, and I would like to go Vegan when I turn 20. I only drink soy milk and eat soy cheese I cut egg like 90% out of my diet, and when I do eat them I only eat locally farm raised eggs. And the only time I really have know choice but to eat some dairy is when I go out to restaurants since I am a Veggie my choices are limited so I usually go with a Caesar salad, with NO chicken of course :) I would love to cut dairy out all the way but its the damn restaurants!

i used to eat the fake cheeses and even tried making my own. these days i just use something else, tahini is my favorite not a cheese substitute but is very satisfying and nutritious (like cheese it is high in fats and calcium). Unlike cheese it wont give you heartburn and spots.
Yes it is. It kills the calfs that a dairy cow is forced to give birth to every year, so she will give milk in the first place.
The male ones are all killed, some of the female ones go back into dairy production but not all of them. and in the end the dairy cow is killed too, as soon as her milk production becomes too little.
you are so very right. i'm a vegetarian going vegan. i wish i could consider myself a vegan because the only thing i do consume is milk and cheese. the rest is out of my life. including products tested on animals/ with animal products in them. but i do have to count on my mom for food so i had to agree to milk and cheese. but i find my way around it. i'll eat it but in small amounts and very rarely. once i turn 18, i'll go full out vegan.
@Danisaurxoxo Fortunately for me, my parents accept my veganism even though they don't quite understand why. Like I said in a previous post, the only time my veganism isn't taken in to account is when I eat out but I still don't compromise.
It's a little hard to get rid of cheese in western cuisine, but for milk, you can always get soy milk, almond milk, rice milk, hemp milk, etc. They are actually very common (since lactose intolerance is common, I guess). I buy almond milk from my local save on foods (I'm canadian). There should be soy milk available in any Safeway, just buy an organic brand (gmo issues)
oh sorry, I only read halfway through your comment before replying and didn't see that it was b/c of your mom hahaha epic fail for me ^_^; I still eat bits of fish and seafood because of my mom too -_- she say's they're not animals (total wtf moment). Luckily, she doesn't like dairy, so I get to drink non dairy milk and don't have to eat cheese
@adamc404 Cheese causes Severe mucus and would be best to stay away from it completely. Milk is of course too because of the growth hormones. I had eczema while consuming cheese and milk and the skin kept peeling off my face in long patches.
@adamc404 Some people are even addicted to water - if they don't get it on a quite regular basis, they start to snap. Depends on the water, tough, advocade-flavored water is mickle unpopular.
i dont eat dead animals AND i dont eat dead plants either. Why because i am not here to do this. I eat living fruit and living plants, its called the 80/10/10 diet. i come frome a backround of addiction and drug abuse. But on this 80/10/10 thing i can be "high" all the time because my body has a couple times more energy to produce its own drugs(serotonin etc) JUST common sense information: Search dr. douglas graham on youtube. start off with the short videos
I see what your saying... In a way I sometimes avoid meety products in lunch lines, but to be honest, every so often I do go out for an ice cream or pizza every once and a while. But one thing I like to stick to is peanut butter and jelly sandwhichs! they're the best lol even though i am elergic to peanut butter i still eat that during school lunches sometimes rather then chicken nuggets or burgers.... im proud of myself :P
Well you should tell your friend or person you met that she can make vegan cheese.. Aveces uno ve los problemas de los demas y nos quejamos pero no hacemos nada al respecto. Well i think you should help your friend and explain about the cheese. Right?
i've been vegan for the past 2 years. i live in india nd the most difficult part for me is finding wool-free cloths. it's very difficult to find out nd i don have time to sit down and test each and every cloth around me.. :-(
btw, congrats on ur wedding!! my gud wishes nd whispering prayers are always with u..
Pao, thanks for posting this video. I completely agree of course. A friend of mine once said at a veg conference "there are no ethical vegans". She got a lot of heat for this. But that statement makes a good point. If someone goes veg for ethical reasons how can they then justify the cruelty and death in the production of dairy and eggs? I appreciate any effort anyone makes in doing the right thing. Even if just going veg one day a week but ultimately to make the ethical choice one must be vegan
i am a vegetarian, trying to eat a vegan diet, but it's hard because i'm not yet old enough to move out so i'm at the mercy of my parents, who will NOT buy me vegan foods. i mean, i have pasta & sauce, beans, fruits, veggies etc. but i have no source of b12 that doesn't have animal products in it. it's hard, but i'm eating as little animal byproduct as i can :)
Dairy has opiate peptides, which are originally there to make sure thew baby animal returns to the mother to feed, so it's literally addicting. A week or two off dairy should get rid of the craving and addictive substances. There are so many wonderful tasting and fortified alternatives if you must really have the taste, so there's no excuse not to stop consuming dairy and eggs.
Great video, thanks for bring this to the attention of more people.
If she went vegetarian 14 years ago, her experience with veganism is very different than that of someone who goes vegan today. There are so many new products and resources these days that she might not even know about! If you talk to her about it, she might have outdated thoughts... she can probably use some education :)
the fact is no matter how little the process hurts the animal, the animal is still being treated as a comodity and an object and thats not right because animals are here for their own purposes, not ours!!
i really think that nowadays almost everyone IS ABLE to become vegan, surely an animals life is more important than a parents biased views??
A chicken will produce about 100 eggs in its 1 year lifetime. For that chicken to be born, 1 male "bobby chick" had to die. If you eat 100+ eggs a year, you are responsible for killing 1 male chick a year.
Oh and btw, I could not live without my tofutti cheese :P
"Guys, please stop eating cheese!" hahaha. I liked that part. I completely agree with you. It's so easy to not eat meat/dairy/eggs! It's not hard at all. It's disgusting to me to even think about eating them again. I hope more people realize it soon.
cheese is good. and addictive there are chemicals in it that make you want MORE!
i do my best to avoid foods that are cruel to animals *vegetarian of 4 years* i'm not one of those fake vegetarians who eat fish (i hate those people)
Just because I can't do something perfectly doesn't mean I should give up the quest. In being Vegan, I figure that of the 1095 meals a year, I eat 98% of it as pure Vegan. However, when I am a guest in someone's home, or eat out with my wife, I generally order what everyone else orders. This is less than 50 times a year. If my percentage of excellence in all areas of my life were this good, I would be a saint. lol. I determined to not draw attention to myself this way.
Since this video is about being honest....yes. My wife is not Vegan, nor my children (who are grown now), In restaurants, I order Vegan, but in someone's home, the selection is smaller. Generally I will eat a small vegan meal before going to those gatherings so that I can be content with the potato salad , beans, bread and chips. I do not seek opportunity to announce vegan principles when a guest in someone else's home....unless asked.
@dovad16 When I go out with the family, they always go to a VERY meat-orientated restaurant but I remain vegan. I usually get a pathetic meal but I won't lower my principles.
I completely agree with u that it is hypocritical to say your against animal cruelty and still have dairy products..... I'm still living with my parents but when I leave (soon!) I'm gonna start a vegetarian or vegan diet. The issue I'm having is 1. I can't imagine its healthy to cut out all dairy, I mean isn't calcium a major part of a healthy diet? 2. Cutting dairy means no cakes, milkshakes, most pastries most biscuits, tea and coffee (well with milk), actual cheese and milk, how do you do it?
It can be done. I make an excellent cornbread and cornbread dressing using only soymilk. (2 Tbsp. corn starch = 1 egg) . Use powdered instant soy milk in your coffee..that's what is in the little packets at coffee stations. I buy Vegan cheese slices made from tofu with each slice individually wrapped. Actually, once one gets past the "pity party" phase, its kind of fun to be inventive with your cooking. My cooking is so good I have to watch lest I gain weight eating vegan. LOL.
The reason you can´t imagine it is because we´re brainwashed into believing cow milk is a necessity, and the only source of calcium. But it isn´t. A lot of people are lactose intolerant. And there are vegetable sources for calcium that are better absorbed by the body, and that don´t have hormones, or cholesterol in them, like dairy products do.
Do a little research and you will see, cow milk is for calves not for humans.
i felt the same way about cheese for a while when i first went vegan. I wanted to eat it soooo bad! and then one day i broke down and had a piece, and it made me so sick. that urge is totally gone now, and i'm ecstatic =). every time I look at cheese i get queesy.
Iwent veggie after seeing a video of chickens in cages, and never thought about anything more.I knew about the cruelty(but very vaguely)but protested against meat consumption based on that knowledge of cruelty, which was really very limited. It was only when I took the time, about 6 years later, to read Animal Liberation that my eyes were opened, and as I progressed through the book I was put off other animal byproducts.Maybe she's similar to how I was-thinking she knows everything when she doesn't
Skittles wouldn´t be vegan friendly even if they didn´t contain gelatin. They are from Procter and Gamble, which are big vivisectionists. Don´t but that junk you´re better off. Porolita22 (this is my spanish account lol)
Another interesting tidbit that I read (don't know if the number is still accurate) 40 percent of the hamburger in the United States comes from dairy cows. So using dairy products not only connects to veal but directly to the beef industry as well. The number could be higher or lower now but either way dairy cows are still eventually killed for meat.
I do sometimes consume cheese replacement products. Word of warning: NOT all cheese replacements are vegan. Some are only lactose free.
... im like, why dont you just stop eating at least a few types of meat? if you cant stop all at once thats fine but do SOMETHING or you will never get there! and if its something you want to do, i dont understand why you dont even try. she doesnt have her parents rules preventing it or anything either. i dont get it. i can understand struggling to give something up, if youre at least trying. its just when ppl know yet dont try that it bothers me!
try inviting your friend over or going to her house and making a vegan meal together! :) There are lots of vegan recipes online and in cookbooks. :) Find out what veggies and fruits she likes and make something using them. My bf is now veg but not vegan. I helped him make that transition and am very proud of him. You can help your friend too. Any step she takes is a step in the right direction. It isn't all or nothing. Some ppl need to take baby steps. I wish you both the best of luck :)
I agree. I pride myself with my Vegan cornbread and Vegan cornbread dressing. Its fun to receive the compliments on how delicious it is. Then I can drop the news that...it has neither milk, eggs, or any animal products or derivitives in it.
its true... i was "mostly vegan" for a year before i finally REALLY quit having cheese. its silly looking back!! i was literally vegan other than being persuaded into pizza here and there. and thats just silly!
-also, i know what you mean. i have a friend who always talks about wanting to be vegetarian, yet never does anything about it! i understand for many people it is a BIG change, i dont expect everyone to be able to change all of their habits and tastes overnight but she does nothing! ...
I am most likely going to raise my kids vegetarian or vegan, right now though since I have no way of getting my own income that is one of the reasons I still eat the same omnivorous diet my family does.
Thankyou for not practically screaming at me like Onision did, It's not an extremely urgent thing for me, but that's just my personal morality on it, I'll probably be vegetarian, but I'll probably have my kids have a vegan diet growing up, even if I gave it slow steps it would be very hard to not eat or drink dairy, that's a very large part of my meals day to day.
My grandparents on my dad's side moved to the woods after highschool and they hunted for all of their food, would you consider hunting for deer with a rifle that (after they got some experience) would kill the deer instantly with a shot to the head be more humane then getting meat from the store, I would think so, I eat meat, and I honestly believe if I wasn't able to stand hunting of all things I wouldn't deserve to eat meat that was killed in even worse ways.
This is great! My boyfriend has been vegetarian his whole life (just turned him to vegan) and he always tells me things like "my leather jacket...I went to the zoo...I try to avoid gelatin but sometimes it's in things I buy at the store" It's like..then were you even a vegetarian? Thanks girl!
Well, you did help me get back into focus with your kind comments when I was totaly out of focus and getting farther away from my goal. Now, all the products that I normaly ate for some time that had milk in them are gone and I am back to finding out new ways of eating and feeling fantastic. Not eating any dairy or egg's in my diet, avoiding as much as possible products that have traces of them in them, and...most importantly...drinking my 8 glasses of water a day surely did the trick.
I am drinking 8 huge glasses of water a day too. LOL. I am glad to hear I helped you in any way it is hard sometimes when no one else around you thinks the way you do but I am glad you've given dairy products the boot! :D
There are still some products that may have traces in them, so I am working hard in finding good replacements that I will like.
Right now, I hate it but I have a leather belt one and I dont have the money to buy a new vegan belt. My old one is just about to give its last breath. I hate it when I am broke.
I found some inexpensive canvas web belts with the metal buckle that did the trick for me. They are like the military always wore, but can be bought in different colors...and last forever.
@OneAnnoyedVegan Why. Note if these animals are not exploited, they will be killed. Has the possinility that perhaps, the industry should be regulated when problems happen?
Fuck vegans!

I totally understand your agony.

At least they're doing something.
monicatFLOYD 1 year ago
@monicatFLOYD The criticism comes because she is an adult, who has knowledge of the injustice involved in animal use, and who still chooses to consume dairy and other animal products. We shouldn't be asking ourselves if it is fair to criticize the person, but if it is fair that the animals are being exploited.. that is the injustice, wouldn't you agree?
porolita22 1 year ago 2
@porolita22 Okay, I see what you mean. Sorry about that. I was just thinking that it's great that they stopped eating meat... but I can see how someone who gets to buy their own food should be able to avoid animal products as well.
Anyways, I really want to become a vegan, and who knows? I might make the leap soon... just need to do some research and find out what I can eat. xD
monicatFLOYD 1 year ago
@monicatFLOYD I understand when someone like you faces challenges with opposition from your parents, as you still depend on them for many things. but when people who CAN go vegan just settle for vegetarianism, there's really no excuse. There is not really much difference between meat and other animal products in terms of the injustice and iherent cruelty... I wish you luck and hope you find your way unto veganism soon :)

BlackBow808 9 months ago
@monicatFLOYD ...understand veganism. Write a report if you have to. Show them earthlings, or what ever your comfortable with to help them understand your choice. And if it fails and they still won't let you go vegan then still be vegan as possible :)
BlackBow808 9 months ago
@monicatFLOYD I have many friends like you Monica. I never criticize them. You don't even come under the category that is being criticized here. understand that. :-). You are trying and trying hard. I have helped my friend get their parents of their back, by telling to to fake lactose intolerance.
Everytime mother forces them to drink milk I told them to run to the toilet and talk to a friend or listen to music. Then complain the milk is giving you diarrhea.Demand a doctor and they will agree
maharawj 7 months ago

Morethanenough1 1 year ago
@Morethanenough1 Moronic? You are denying the inherently cruel practices that involve the making of those products and I AM the moron? LOL
porolita22 1 year ago 14
@Morethanenough1 Cruel is defined by M-W as: "disposed to inflict pain or suffering : devoid of humane feelings"
Using animals for food requires us to violate their bodies and to harm them. Killing or exploiting people is cruel; same with other animals. Doing so demonstrates a lack of justice and moral respect. So yes, eating animals and animal products is an act of cruelty. Veganism is the only humane response to the cruelty that is animal exploitation.
TEPutnam 1 year ago
@Morethanenough1 Do some research. Google "factory farming". Spend some time looking at the photos and reading the information provided. Now ask yourself, "How would I feel if I were put in this situation?". Also realize, that all the suffering is unnecessary. We don’t need animal products to survive. I used to think that we did but clearly, I was wrong. If we did need meat and diary to survive, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because Porolita and I would be dead.
MyNext1WillBeBetter 1 year ago
@Morethanenough1 A lot of the worst animal abuse in the world occurs in factory farms. You buy their products, you're supporting the mistreatment of animals. Saying it's moronic to put morals on eating habits is ignoring the facts and refusing to take responsibility.

makeing cheese isnt killing an animal. thats why
judofighter10 1 year ago
@judofighter10
Yes it is. It kills the calfs that a dairy cow is forced to give birth to every year, so she will give milk in the first place.
The male ones are all killed, some of the female ones go back into dairy production but not all of them. and in the end the dairy cow is killed too, as soon as her milk production becomes too little.
Milk is as bloody as a steak.

you are so very right. i'm a vegetarian going vegan. i wish i could consider myself a vegan because the only thing i do consume is milk and cheese. the rest is out of my life. including products tested on animals/ with animal products in them. but i do have to count on my mom for food so i had to agree to milk and cheese. but i find my way around it. i'll eat it but in small amounts and very rarely. once i turn 18, i'll go full out vegan.
in my opinion, you speak the truth.

Even if just going veg one day a week but ultimately to make the ethical choice one must be vegan

i am a vegetarian, trying to eat a vegan diet, but it's hard because i'm not yet old enough to move out so i'm at the mercy of my parents, who will NOT buy me vegan foods. i mean, i have pasta & sauce, beans, fruits, veggies etc. but i have no source of b12 that doesn't have animal products in it. it's hard, but i'm eating as little animal byproduct as i can :)
dianadelosmuertos 2 years ago
Dairy has opiate peptides, which are originally there to make sure thew baby animal returns to the mother to feed, so it's literally addicting. A week or two off dairy should get rid of the craving and addictive substances. There are so many wonderful tasting and fortified alternatives if you must really have the taste, so there's no excuse not to stop consuming dairy and eggs.
Great video, thanks for bring this to the attention of more people.

If she went vegetarian 14 years ago, her experience with veganism is very different than that of someone who goes vegan today. There are so many new products and resources these days that she might not even know about! If you talk to her about it, she might have outdated thoughts... she can probably use some education :)
kangarooelaine 2 years ago
the fact is no matter how little the process hurts the animal, the animal is still being treated as a comodity and an object and thats not right because animals are here for their own purposes, not ours!!
i really think that nowadays almost everyone IS ABLE to become vegan, surely an animals life is more important than a parents biased views??
mikeythevegan 2 years ago
There is no such thing as an ethical vegetarian.

Just because I can't do something perfectly doesn't mean I should give up the quest. In being Vegan, I figure that of the 1095 meals a year, I eat 98% of it as pure Vegan. However, when I am a guest in someone's home, or eat out with my wife, I generally order what everyone else orders. This is less than 50 times a year. If my percentage of excellence in all areas of my life were this good, I would be a saint. lol. I determined to not draw attention to myself this way.
dovad16 2 years ago
What everyone else orders? What if they order meat? will you eat meat? :-/
porolita22 2 years ago
Since this video is about being honest....yes. My wife is not Vegan, nor my children (who are grown now), In restaurants, I order Vegan, but in someone's home, the selection is smaller. Generally I will eat a small vegan meal before going to those gatherings so that I can be content with the potato salad , beans, bread and chips. I do not seek opportunity to announce vegan principles when a guest in someone else's home....unless asked.
dovad16 2 years ago
@dovad16 When I go out with the family, they always go to a VERY meat-orientated restaurant but I remain vegan. I usually get a pathetic meal but I won't lower my principles.
marcluc1988 1 year ago
I completely agree with u that it is hypocritical to say your against animal cruelty and still have dairy products..... I'm still living with my parents but when I leave (soon!) I'm gonna start a vegetarian or vegan diet. The issue I'm having is 1. I can't imagine its healthy to cut out all dairy, I mean isn't calcium a major part of a healthy diet? 2. Cutting dairy means no cakes, milkshakes, most pastries most biscuits, tea and coffee (well with milk), actual cheese and milk, how do you do it?
1Vella 2 years ago
It can be done. I make an excellent cornbread and cornbread dressing using only soymilk. (2 Tbsp. corn starch = 1 egg) . Use powdered instant soy milk in your coffee..that's what is in the little packets at coffee stations. I buy Vegan cheese slices made from tofu with each slice individually wrapped. Actually, once one gets past the "pity party" phase, its kind of fun to be inventive with your cooking. My cooking is so good I have to watch lest I gain weight eating vegan. LOL.
dovad16 2 years ago
The reason you can´t imagine it is because we´re brainwashed into believing cow milk is a necessity, and the only source of calcium. But it isn´t. A lot of people are lactose intolerant. And there are vegetable sources for calcium that are better absorbed by the body, and that don´t have hormones, or cholesterol in them, like dairy products do.
Do a little research and you will see, cow milk is for calves not for humans.

HAJS5 2 years ago
My grandparents on my dad's side moved to the woods after highschool and they hunted for all of their food, would you consider hunting for deer with a rifle that (after they got some experience) would kill the deer instantly with a shot to the head be more humane then getting meat from the store, I would think so, I eat meat, and I honestly believe if I wasn't able to stand hunting of all things I wouldn't deserve to eat meat that was killed in even worse ways.

Yes, people should be "as vegan as possible" people settle for vegetarianism and many will think that is "enough" but it is NOT.
Even if you start as vegetarian, you should strive for veganism, because eating cheese and eggs does nothing but encourage animal exploitation.
