Ok i had the same problem and i fixed by doing the following...
1. Hold the power button and dont let go until it turns off ..
2. After it turns off Hold the button again and after 5 seconds you will hear a beep .. then you will hear 2 beeps. After this occurs imediately release your finger from the power button and it will lead you to some menu.
3. In the menu you will need to click "Restore Ps3 System" something like that.. it will delete all your data but its worth it. Good luck
that happens to me but just after it says PS3 it doesnt show me my users but it also doesnt freeze its just keeps showing th ' ORIGINAL '' theme HELP !!!
@masterans1 realy? was that the exact same thing which happend to yours because mine dosent work and i was thinking of opening my ps3 and giving it a blow to get rid of dust
gutted!! if sony just fuckin spent a little more time on the fuckin cooling system and solder !!!!! raaaaa so aye the hair dryer only give u a few hours BUT if u can get the thermal compound n follow the vids on here u'll be sorted ...

lol gutted dood mines worked for 2 hours n froze again, for a longer fix u need to strip it down till u get to the board n either use a heat gun on the chips or put the board in the oven lol search ps3 oven and ps3 ylod fix ... i tried the hair dryer cos im skint and cant afford the thermal compound u need to do this haha on 10 quid aswell but yeah the hair dryer works for about 1 or 2 hours so i guess ill be doin that again now :( doin the oven or heat gun fixes it for months aparently
hey mines done the same a few days ago i found a fix urs done the same as mines. get a hair dryer lol am not takin the piss honestly it works . get the hair dryer side to side motion on full heat for 15min in the back vents, let it cool completely foi r 20 or mins i put mines outside lol and it should work donno how long for tho mines seems to still be working dood
