Gas has been used as a weapon, however it is not especially effective compared to nuclear weapons. The single bomb dropped on Hiroshima Japan killed approx. 750,000 people, that's probably more than all the gas deaths combined. The cold war was a very scary period, a B-52 crashed near here with 2 a-bombs, they didn't detonate. Much about the cold war hasn't changed though.

There has to be some back up plan. Militaries are very good here at avoiding insane decisions by American politicians. However, at least to some extent, some in the military follow blindly, insane presidential orders. George Bush's Iraq war is a perfect example. They don't have nuclear weapons though.

Gas has been used as a weapon, however it is not especially effective compared to nuclear weapons. The single bomb dropped on Hiroshima Japan killed approx. 750,000 people, that's probably more than all the gas deaths combined. The cold war was a very scary period, a B-52 crashed near here with 2 a-bombs, they didn't detonate. Much about the cold war hasn't changed though.

The tension between the US and the USSR was constant, nuclear weapons tests took place all the time, both above ground and below ground. The tension is not nearly as severe as it was, there hasn't been a nuclear weapons test for a long time. However, submarines remain at sea, bombers can be armed quickly, and missiles are always ready. Anything can happen.
