@superchaoo7 i think it's just around 3.5 G.. the usual takeoff speed is 130 kts which is 66 m/s, the plane reaches that speed in about 2 sec.. 66/2 = 33m/s*s acceleration, that means 33/9.8 ~= 3.5 G
I dont think an engineer could land one of these on a very small target and pick up 1 of 4 wires to stop the plane dropping into the ocean. 'You're in an aircraft doing 150 miles per hour, on an approach path that is constantly moving, the ship's deck may be pitching up and down, and you have to land on that deck within and area 135 feet long and 20 feet wide.'
@wilgapilot becoming a fighter pilot is one of the most difficult jobs in the world to achieve. I recently inquired about a job pathway for flying fighters in Canada. I became farsighted after discovering the amount of work that needs to be done (all of which needs to be completed to A+ ratings). Only the best of the best make to fighter pilot school.
First off they both go hand in hand....and trust a Airforce Pilot is not stupid they have to know angels of attack< G forces<a Shit load of math envolved in flying these machines they dont just hand out F-18 or dump ass street people would have them u have to earn ur wings I live in Mira Mar land of the fighter jets Engineers are the makers and Pilots show them how its used when its been mastered!! try slapping a nerdy ass engineer in a plane an take him mach 2 an pull 7 or 8Gs he will pass out!
I certainly appreciate the Navy for getting this video out and allowing it. I couldn't tell what carrier this was off of. Anyways, great video, except for the irritating sound. I'm not sure what the point is of the trashy music. I'll never know what flight videos have to do with the pathetic music that people paste on the videos on youtube.
this is sad that noone shows the work of art and engineers who are responsible for all the hardwork that made this F18 so easy to fly and manueor just by a stick, all the software and avionics which took 100s of hours of thinking and labour needs appreciation, pilots lol they are lame!..who made this F18 happen , you rok
dude seriously its for the video. pilots are not lame..... and i dont think its gonna be fricken awesome watchin a guy repair the engines n electronics honestly....why would you even commment
fok u bro ... engineers are the reall deal..wat do pilots do? use tht joystick ...and they think they are kool..lol..hahahhaha...dude u need to learn the real challenging talent... ENGINEERS ftw..the kool bit about engineers is that they dont show off like these cockpit rats....engineers are engineers pilots are wannabee starz...so dont tell me whos better..again get ur facts straight
i never said engineers werent good i just said its a video of a guy flying a f/a18. appreciate the work that goes in to make the video, dont complain that the guy flying is a "wannabe star" or watever you said
Engineers are the most important thing that goes into making the plane for sure, but pilots arnt just dumb pricks who doesnt know anything about how planes work, they were probably intersted in aircraft and decided they wanted to be a pilot when they grow up.
lol...u fail ...facepalm ... engineers get those pieces togther and a pilot?..sure anyone can go thru a manual and a know the working knowledge , but to apply it practicality!!! a pilot wud never say yes to that..trust me..that needs a brain
@alienorz I think you just have anger issues, pilots understand the concept of a plane and have skills, so does a engineer, both completely different and good in their own way.
@1ohtaf1 Pilots know a shit load about the aircraft they fly. They only seem like the arrogant type as an inherent effect of the job they have, adrenaline pumping heart pounding action and speed can tend to do that to a person. These guy's are extremely fit and extremely knowledgeable, you don't just walk up to the Air Force and say "I want to be a fighter pilot" and suddenly you get your wings, trust me its not easy, and takes a ton of effort and knowledge to become a fighter pilot.
@ThatGuy571 Many pilots over the ages have said that if you go up without the attitude that you will win you'll most likely die. Can't go up thinking you might come do a good job, self defeatist attitudes do not contribute to the mission.
Ya only around the top 10% are tactical combat pilots in the USAF. Does anyone know if that's changed?
@Lionwolf0777 Yeah it's really all about the attitude that you are the best and will win, similar to any sports or anything like that. It contributes significantly to your performance.
And yeah, those figures are still correct, in fact i think it's even less now with the number of UAV's and the price of planes going up and the effectiveness of one plane going up, the Air Force is downsizing.
@1ohtaf1 I love planes. That's why I want to fly an F-18 when I get older. And I know right now I'll be sure to develop a good relationship with my mechanics and the flight engineers.
@navyguardf18 I'd reccomend being one before spitting all your money away on college, you'll get to know the planes, and the NAVY/AF will pay for your college and then you can become a fighter pilot, that's what I'm gonna do.
aliennorz.. really.. yea engineers are very talented and important for the build of the plane but what about the crew that builds it, takes care of it on the carrier, repairs it, lauches it and last but not least, flyes it. oh yeah.. and guys maintaining it? what about those guys that keep the engineers work of art flying? its not like you join the navy and can hop in an F18. takes time and skills to master flying a plane at the speed of sound
@alienorz : Pilots are a completely different breed. Pilots are chosen for their ability to handle tough physical environments, their situational awareness, their ability to multi-task and make snap decisions under physical & mental stress. They are consummate system managers and tacticians. Engineers are celebrated in their own right. As one of my engineering profs told us, engineers are essentially creative problem solvers. The thing is, being a pilot is just plain sexier.
@alienorz : I guess what I'm saying is, anyone with decent high school math can get into an engineering school, I should know, lol, but to make the cut and become a navy pilot, that's a heck of a lot tougher I think you'll agree. I wouldn't know, but I've been told military pilots are not the egotistical, hair on fire narcissists you see in the movies, they are highly trained professionals who take their jobs seriously. Unfortunately they get all the chicks too :( (jk)
@sydbernice yer rite pilots are meant to show the aerial elegance and glamour but in reality they are under alot of stress. BUT does a pilot know how to run all the system checks and tests to make sure pilots are safe to leave the base , NO .... perception of pilots being behind all that perfection is so deceiving and wrong , breathin in out of a mask and takin some Gz doznt dazzle me ...

Hiding in the clouds does not count. Cheater!!
Wingman: Pussy

Wingman: I was only kiding, wow I cant play with you..
