I'd rather have my Yamaha MM8, since I heard has the same engine as the Motif and sounds great just like the Motif. No difference in sound. I'm sure the Motif is the keyboard for professionals and technically better, but I'll never play on stage, even though the Yamaha MM8 would be good for that as well. Bought my Yamaha MM8 for 600 and extremely happy with it.

@gussie8933 Not entirely true. The MM8 uses the Motif ES engine and the XS engine is better. You can hear the difference, but since the motif ES series are outstanding boards your MM has great sound quality :-)

@ikkejick Thanks for input. I wasnt sure if it did have the Motif engine or if I was getting smoke blown up my ass by the seller, but thanks for confirming that it does use the Motif ES engine. Main reason why I didnt go with the Motif is because it's wayyyy too expensive for me -- I figured spending $600 on my used MM8 was a great idea for a great keyboard with great sound!

@gussie8933 The XS8 has 88 keys, the XS7 76 keys and the XS6 61 keys. Also, the XS8 comes with hammered keys (piano touch), just like your MM8, and the XS7 and XS6 have synth action keys.

Just beautiful. I am agressively searching for a full-featured synth workstation, and the XS8 has really caught my eye. Your presentation, as well as many online demos, really sells the capabilities - all much more capable than my own keyboarding abilities. ikkejick, I come back from time to time to listen. Very well played. I can only imagine how the tonal quality would be like with the Ivory virtual piano.... because you have very good touch sensitivity to the keys (most don't have that quality)

I enjoyed this very much also. MWS is one of my favorites, AND I too have a Yamaha Motif XS8! I imagine that since you recorded this in March you've discovered the many other wonderful sounds the instrument has and more of the incredible things it can do, but the grand piano sound is excellent. And I'm guessing that like me you started out on 88 keys with nothing to plug in, eh?

a keyboard is only as good as the speakers it is played through. Help me on this... the Motif has no internal speakers...right? Therefore, what are you playing through for this video. Sounds awesome...

But what you hear in this video is direct-recorded audio. I connected the RCA output to my computer's input and recorded the video and audio seperately.

Normally, I am using citronic ST-6 studio monitor speakers. I'd suggest to connect the XS to a good set of studio monitors.

You got a fan here with your awesome playing. I just got me an XS7 here for 2.8 grand. Guitar Center was selling an XS8 for 3.1 grand only, but they are back up to 3.6 grand now. I got the XS7 due to the lower weight and I hear non-weighted keys (like the XS8) are more challenging for doing drum beats and playing non-piano instruments. It's great for pianos though.
