I can't believe this! Stumbled on it by accident - and sang along to the theme tune as if it had only been yesterday since I saw it! -- I loved this show. OMG I feel 5 years old again!
i remember watching this when i was 5 1977 how u ever got this on here i don,t know absolutely fantastic :) i,ll never forget that witch lol or the theme tune fantastic
Thanks for posting this! I too have been looking for years for ANYTHING to do with this show! It really stuck in my head as a child and I must have been really little (also 37 now)! Was amazing to see this again. Thanks so much for taking me back in time!
Thank you for sharing this. I have been looking for this for years. As a child I was scared of it too (it was on Iranian tv back in late 70's). I used to run away and lock myself up in my room as soon as I heard the opening theme. It's fascinating to see everyone else felt the same way.
I am 37 and have been looking for this show for ages, because when I was a child, this show seemed really scary to me! then I realized that actually all the guys in my age were scared of mumfie when they were a child! I dont know why but I think there are some scary elements in this show. now, when I look at it after nearly 30years, I still find it scary!
I had nightmares for at least 5 years, mumfie I was scared of. Bizarre as he is good guy. He'd ge a giant or small or pop up somewhere. Really strange. also raggity from the Rupert series yikes.
This is fantastic! I tried searching this couple of weeks ago and gave up, then decided to search direct the only line I remembered "Mumfie, you'll be happy ever after, you'll see, Scarecrow will look after you, Mumfie too, Mumfie...." and bingo! I only remember watching just a single episode back in the mid 70s when growing up in Manchester, and for some reason the theme tune has stuck in my head after 35 years. Thank you so much reviving a priceless moment frozen in time forever, for me
Another one of those creepy-looking puppet series, (akin to Rupert The Bear), that was actually a little scary for me as a youngster growing up in the 70's.
copies can still exist in libraries but they need to have production and distribution rights. You and I can have shows we recorded off TV but we can't copy and distribute them legally. Britt Allcroft own Rupert the Bear and Mumfie and no product can be made using these characters, even the old comics or TV shows remade, without their permission and they won't budge.
i think releasing the rupert tv series and mumfie , wouldnt affect any of the sales of the current programmes as there is big money in nostalgia, infact she would make more out of us baby boomers,i just remember this and loved it , hasnt allcroft made enough money out of thomas the tank engine brand, even though it was the rev w audry who created him,its a bit mean to hold onto these programmes, if that is the truth, come on allcroft let these much loved episodes out of there vaults
Thinking about it - if your parents ever told you if your not good the Boogyman will get you- you could always say that Mumfie is good but is victim to something worse.
Thanks so much for posting this, ive been looking for this for so long even tried to get in touch with catherine tozer to see if she has any archive material. This childrens program had such an influence on my adventurous nature and i absolutely loved it. If anyone has any old mumfie videos and not the more recent americanised version, pleeeeaaaasssseeeee can you post it!!
@coldowoldo Catherine Tozer sadly died very young. in childbirth, a long time ago before the character became successful. As with the Rupert Tv shows, Britt Allcroft own them so we have little chance of seeing them.
@markdelaney Well I've got about 5 episodes but need to get round to converting them. Are you sure you're talking about the same Mumfie series? I would have thought that just like the puppet Rupert series from the 1970's, it's owned by Granada ever since they inherited the ITC library?
@OttoBunstick Britt Allcroft own the Ruperts too sadly and won't let either of them out as they consider it will affect the sales of the existing available products. I've dug deep into this with the production company I work for and hit brick walls every time.
@markdelaney. Really? That's very interesting. I can't understand how only part of a library can be purchased like that. It'd be good to have a chat about this Mark
Thanks for all the nice comments, took so long till I could find it, couldn't find any episode though... the funny thing is as I see all of us were frightened by this animation!! Some even say they had nightmare! Now I think was kind of chilhood trauma than a show!! LOL
that's incredible!!!! I don't remember the last time I saw that!!!! Last year I was searching some Mumfie's video but nobody help me! The witch was so frightening when I was a kid.... Thanks for posting....

Thats what evil witches do, apparently. Take people's manners away.
Its hardly worth it really is it....wouldnt turning them into toads be more impressive?

Remember those faces so well! Amazing it's all still in my head after 35 years!
Does anyone know of a cartoon series where they all lived in a caste-not Clopper Castle. They were skinny and moved in a funny way.
