@anti0918 - I watched the video you suggest and understand the alarm. However, I know a number of Montessori alumnae who, even as adults, have unparalleled math comprehension. The trick, I think, is to expose the children to these materials when they are very young. It's a powerful system for creating an innate understanding of numbers and math. The stacking method is also necessary and it is ridiculous to not teach it, but one shouldn't discount the tremendous benefits of this method as well.
This system doesn't seem that good. This poor 3rd grade girl spends 8 minutes on a simple math problem using this method, gets the answer wrong, and then using the standard method to answer it correctly in 1 minute: search YouTube for "The unintended consequences of the Investigations Math"
I am proud to be in a Montessori School! :)
