  • ahh thats what i was thinking. totally sounds like the intro of fuck you like an animal

  • Very talented drummer, but could live without the rap intro.

  • u suck dude...kenwood is a sik rapper

  • Just amazing. Very talented.

  • You try rap, play drums and play the bassline at the same time? :-)

  • meh...

  • y cant rap be like this

  • this is actually really fucking awesome. its really hard to play keyboard and drum at the same time wow

  • is it me or does the first :30 of the video sound like a Nine Inch Nails song?

  • he only really used like 2 pieces of his set, but i do give him props for being able to "sing" and "play piano(?)" while playing; that shit's hard.

  • If only clinics were still like this. Fuck yeah.

  • This guy sux

  • so he really doesn't need all those drums for his thing does he?

  • So this drummer secretly wanted to be a rapper?

  • sai dai lixo

  • like a lot of these guys - incredible technique and co-ordination - but the actual music sounds shite

i mean who'd want to listen to that shite song, other than to marvel at his ability?

  • genious

  • Proud to have learned from him personally. He is also the godfather of the gravity blast. Wayyyy before Johnny Rabb.

  • doot doot doot doot da doot THE DRUMMER!

  • epic

  • bet the geezer out of Def Leppard is gutted he didn't think of this first.........

  • soooooooooooo 80s

  • exactly. I'm with the (antipirate) the guy was obviously talented!

  • This is cool.

This is roots, rap, reggae...Sugar Hill Gang style.

This was obviously a few years prior to, and the precursor to Crack Cocaine. However, it did pave the way for Gangsta Rap & whatnot.

This man was cutting edge, even if the first cuts were from a knife made of Cheese Wiz.

Oh, the schmaltz of this. And Weckl went on to bigger and better things, while this man labored in obscurity until the advent of You Tube some 20 years later!

    The injustice of it all~

  • Other drummers went on to do better things maybe, but woody has actually taught many of these drummers. The guy is a legend and is a percussion professor at Berklee College. His influence is huge, hope theres' some more clips out there...

  • aww so gay

  • It's the 80s, everyone was gay

  • Not true at all. Some people were cheesy while others were tacky and had split ends and genital warts. Or maybe it was just me.

  • They were either gay or turned gay because of that time period....

  • georgeymo

    steve30664

Comon guys.... you not got anything better to add?

  • I agree with georgeymo!!

  • @georgeymo

I was in his polyrhythms class, He's not

  • I NEED THESE LYRICS!!!!!

  • they're really not that hard to figure out..

  • awesome metric modulation

  • Also check out "life on planet groove" by Maceo Parker. Killer funk by mr Dennard.

  • Second that! One of the best records - ever. This guy is frickin' amazing. I had only read about his "World Music" in the '80's, but actually seeing it is great. Thanks for posting this!

  • Truth. :D

  • unique all right

  • man this kicks!!!

  • Me or my band WILL be covering this solo.

  • fucking sweet

  • Alucinate! The best drum solo of the history!!!! = D

  • Ha ha ha... naw...

  • Roland makes this type of thing a little easier to do nowadays, but you still need talent. This man is creator to guys like, Tony Venderosa, A. Jimbo, Thomas Lang, and a shit load more. Praise Woody!

  • He really does his own thing.......Excellent......

  • cool!

  • thats cool galactic drums

  • Extremely cheesy but also quite amazing, and a very good sounding drum set.

  • i thought he had 4 arms at the start.

  • No, but yer Momma does.

  • I became friendly with Woody several years ago. I emailed him. He responded. THen we talked on the phone. THen met. He is a helluva nice guy besides an incredible drummer

  • This guy is pretty talented. He's an excellent multi-tasker.

  • talk about multi-tasking

  • lol that was sweet

  • Doo doo do DA Drummer...........

  • Isn't Woody a tad deaf to boot? I can see his hearing aids. KD FOREVER!

  • I want a Zildjian jacket =]

    FTW

  • Lang doesn't sing.

  • Duuuude this is 1985, try paying attention to the EVOLUTION of drumming.

  • dude, by 85 ....... there were tons of sick drummers... way better than this bro

neil peart did all this and more

  • HA ! I am a Neil fan and while he had crotales marimbas Simmons drums and an array of bells Neil never played a keybd while drumming.

Anyway there is no point in comparing Neil to Kenny Kenny to Neil, there is no comparison EITHER WAY.

It's never about better it's always about different.

  • Haha while reading your comment i was thinking neil haha

  • I saw him live in a church in Boston-I was playing piano with another band- at one pioint he started playing a very fast swing with the drums with right hand on cymbal keeping the bass drum and hi-hat while playing Donna Lee Charlie Parker be-bop fast tune) with his left hand on a keyboard , live , not even one glitch on the head of the tune , perfect timing .

  • sweet snare drum

  • Heh, when someone only listens to this, the person will think that it's just a group band. But, when they actually see who's playing, they be like "dude, there is no way that it was just one person, singing, playing the keyboards and the drums at the same time..." well, here is one of those impossibles proving to be possible. Amazing drum solos too by the way...

  • Fark yeah!!!!!!

    Brand X drumming is incredible.

  • Those are some serious bad ass singles from about 3:40 to 4:50. A nice impression of Buddy Rich's style. Fine technique, I wish I had that in my bag of tricks.

  • I love this guy, he has more to teach than the drum's. He reminds me of bobby mcferrin.. just having fun.. of course after having earned the chops, check out his video on the red 3 piece, its amazing, u really gotta listen though. KENWOOD!

  • On Crack...

Right.. This guy's just having a good time. Clearly he has groove and innovation in his playing (His singing might not exactly be amazing). Not to mention all the licks he's busting out..

Point being the more you close your mind the less you're going to learn.. This is especially important with drums ;)

  • wtf I thought this was a drum clinic not a one man band...

  • There is only ONE KING OF KINGS and He is THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

  • hey, hey, wait, don't you mean Chuck Norris?

  • ROFL XD

  • well it is the mid 80's...your probably right, it is very likely he was on crack haha.

  • jimmy Sullivan alll the way this guy is on crack screw him!!

  • I second that.. This guy must be on crack

  • can you do all of that at the same time the way he was?

no i didnt think so so

    S

    T

    F

    U

  • if no-one else can, this guy's definitely on crack

  • hayy!! haayy craka you staring at me?

  • not one person is better than him....unless he was ganged up on by a whole percussion and rhythm section and and oldies r&b rapper/singer, but thats almost impossible....so....altogether, he's da ShIT

  • i like it

  • wow! i have to write my own drum rap!

  • He IS THE SH#T! Firstly he is KNOW AN INSTRUCTOR @ BERKLEE ALSO CHECK HIS WORK WITH EITHER BRAND X OR PAT MARTINO (JOYOUS LAKE).

  • dude...im sorry but stop trying to rap or sing or watever the fuck ur doin

  • cool ^^

  • This is really corny but the guy is a good drummer.

  • why does he actually needs such a big drum, when he can poorley play it... whatch franky costanza, he's way better!!!!

  • F---k all y'all!! Kenny is the SHIT!!

  • i want that zildjian jacket ! man this guy is a one man band,.,kinda of like the akira jimbo of usa !

  • even on pipe, he can play the drums a way you could never do...

  • Kenwood played with "Brand X", a band that also featured Phil Collins. He was very good with making odd time signatures groove nicely.

  • Great act for kids partys.

  • lmao.. Eazy E plays drums?

  • nice solo, but wow sometimes i forget how execesive the 80's were.

  • I wonder what he would think of akira Jimbo???

  • wow. that drum kit is fucked up lol!

  • why?

  • I totally agree with that guy below. If Pat Martino's "Joyous Lake" was the only thing Kenwood ever did, he would still deserve to be a living legend.

  • posion into medicine all day

  • OMFG.....WTF.....Wat too much BLOW!!!!!!

  • I'm a drummer and I luv Kenwood, but he was HIGH when he did this shit....

  • this guy is sooooo freakin awsome! {:o)

love it! fuck who ever talks shit!

  • Comment removed

  • Pat Martino jouyus lake!! is the best!!!! at this days.... salute to you kenwood!!... thank you drumman44

  • Dude, you guys are all retarded... this is fuckin' cool. He did this over 20 years ago, and I still think it's hip now.

And if it's so fuckin' lame, and you're so fuckin' cool, why not post a video response of yourself doing it better than he does?

And his singing isn't that bad... but he's not a professional singer either, so quit being so stupid.

  • it's the 80's people.

  • this relle sucks ass

  • OK I stuck it out and he got good at the end lol.

  • Sorry I found that lame. Rather not hear the rap crap and see him drum with two hands.

    Cheesy...

  • this is sick

  • Well his singing is but its incredible how he can play so much instruments at the same time and keep a nice speed in each instrument but then again the singing is horrible.

  • i said a man and a woman and a dog and a bird...

  • mad love for kenwood..but come on, wut the fuck is this.."THE DRUMMER..do do do da do." That's some kindergarden shit..

  • Probably the most talented, underrated, and unrecognized drummer of our time. The rap is a bit much, but an incredible display percussion talent nonetheless

  • WHAT!! in 85! this is perhaps one of the greatest musical moments...

p.s. its kinda a cheap ploy to claim there's a part two, druman44...

but thanks you for the clip none the less.

  • The beginning of this of his drum reminded of the song "Closer" by NIN. Awesome video.

  • hahahaha WTF with his singing XD

  • Well, what a cunt we are.

  • no one in the history of you tube has ever been so right!

  • what the fuck

  • this is really annoying

  • that dude is fuckin great:D

  • Drumming worlds major talent. He was all of 29 in 85, the rap bullshit was hip in 85'.

Very few pro drummers can sing, let alone sing/play drums and a bass line with their left hand.

  • thats because every few drummers devote their time to such things. its alot easyer than it looks.

  • beep beep boop bop

  • The man is a lunatic and i bet very few could understand what he was talking about , but that just makes it the all much more nicer and mainly because it so much different from all these typical drum clinics where they put a complete technical monster on stage and he just blows the seats off and people are left with jaw open but zero musical inspiration - at least Kenwood tried to put this odd musical concept around his clinic - the good old 80's ....

  • its 1985, LOL, anything goes.

  • Um yeah he needs to keep his pie hole shut. He's annoying as fuck!

  • i woud like it better if he didn't start rapping!

  • the man has guts to that . he`s talented and very crazy . but thats more of a showing off act than a musical act .

  • AHHH Kenwood...my class mate from Berklee (along w/ Steve Smith and John Robinson) and my brutha from another mutha. We were ALL studying with the great Alan Dawson.Remember when we did a duet (at your sound check) at the Monterey Jazz Festival, singing from memory Ex. 1 page 37 from Ted Reeds Syncopation book? That was a hoot. Lets get together sometime soon and do a hang.OH, and remember when Mingus came thru and you played with him and he was mad coz there was rosin on the strings of thebass?

  • OG!!!! Is always good to see a Black Nerd jamming Old School!!!!!

  • this guy isnt a drummer. hes a percusionist..

how i can tell.? becuase look he has like 600000 drums.. and keyboard, xylyphone,a frickin gong for cryin out loud....i think iv made my point.

  • I'm sorry this is just crap. I know you all will hate on me for it but I just don't see what's so special about this when there's 7 year olds on here that are far more entertaining and tallented.
