  • looking foreward to a third, but it'd be more interesting to an original one.

  • Bad mic though. But very good!

  • why are people bring up mac and windows the add is a spoof on the mac ads but it's not about mac or windows it's comparsion between closed source and open source

  • I <3 open source

  • i like open source software...but macs just suck

  • Mac is Propiertary...

  • i prob. should have explained a little more...i didn't like the fact that FOSS was being compared to Mac software

I'm aware that mac is proprietary, i just worded it wrong :/

  • I agree, but the question is: Is Open Source being compared to Mac as a computer system or Mac as the character?

As a computer system, it would make no sense as Mac is proprietary and nothing more than a competitor of another proprietary system. As the character though, he is the "cool" and "hip" guy, the good guy.

  • yeah, although win is better than mac (especially when it comes to hardware compadibility) in the end they are both closed source OSs, I like opes source alot but I still use windows because of all the games that WINE cant emulate, and vmware is also closed source and in the end will probably cost even more than just buying windows. also, has any1 noticed the open source is OS abreviated? I wonder if they did that intentionally.

  • Try virtualbox as an alternative to vmware (they have a fully free version and a version with some proprietary software to add a couple of features)

  • You just made me laugh. Windows is better than Mac because of drivers? WTF are you talking about. First of all Macs have perfect drivers because Apple makes the hardware and the software. Second, Macs are partially opensource. You can even develop on the kernel if you want.

  • the mac OS only supports mac hardware up until leapord which there still isn't much support for other hardware. and even if it is partially open source u cant just be partially open source, what is the point of that. if it was mostly open source except for one or two things that leagally have to be proprietary then it would be good but really, u have to consider both closed. that would be like saying win is open because u got an explorer.exe replacement that is open.

  • OS X is a hybrid of Open Source and Closed Source. It is partially Open Source. You can't just deny the truth because you want to. It doesn't work that way. As for drivers, all the drivers work on a Mac when you buy the Mac. It comes with the reload disk and driver disk man. If you are talking about external things such as USB wireless cards the OS X drivers will be on the disk. Its not Apples fault if companies don't make drivers for OS X.

  • i didn't deny it, i said partially open source is just about as good as closed source. Could you modify and then compile Mac OSX? im not talkin about stuff like wireless cars when i mean hardware support, im mean what if i dont like apple macs hardware, but i still like the OS. Can i easily install it on my dell, or any other x86 machine? Linux has driver support for just about everything and almost all hardware has drivers for windows with it because of its popularity.

  • Installing it on a Dell would be illegal.

  • how? i can install just about any other OS legally on my little david. (no i didn't name my computer its just that it was the least expensive 1 so i refer to it as david in terms of david vs. Goliath.

  • Its against the license term agreement that you accept when installing OS X.

  • okay, then i will refrase my original statement, OSX has just about no hardware support and drivers at all. (leagally)

  • Bingo. But OS X has enough hardware support. Just not as much as Linux or Windows.

  • Wow. You managed to start a mac/pc debate when this video is about neither. Impressive.

  • Isn't it though?

  • @UbuntuLee No court has ever enforced a license agreement that the user has to agree to *after* purchasing the software. There are serious legal issues with enticing someone to buy your product and then attempting to modify the purchase agreement after the sale. There's a good chance they're just legal-sounding mumbo-jumbo intended to scare you.

  • It's not free-as-in-beer, though, so I really don't care for it.

  • yes macs do suck

  • why?

  • how exact
