@koberamone1989 Peace and Love was how she signed all her autographs, and she published her autobiography shortly after the Olympics and it was called Peace & Love. Flashing the V sign was the thing to do in the late 60's and early 70's. That may be how it crossed the ocean. (although Churchill in World War 2 first used it) best wishes
Janet was not 3rd in figures in Saparro. She was 4th. And the gold medal wasnt really in reach unfortunately. Schuba was so far ahead she needed only 5.0s or so in free skating to gaurantee the gold.
it's sort of a hip-hop, ghetto YOU......or a Spanish 'I'!!! you decide!! Go ahead and post your first 'grafitti' here..........I can see us chanting this at competitions this year, i can hear the arenas buzzing........UIGH stands for Underground Guerilla Hellions..........I can hear us chanting UGH UGH UGH when marks are posted at competitions.......let's bring this nonsense down!!!!! now.......before its to late... best wishes (underground guerilla hellions are always polite!!!) lol
This is a new, underground guerilla grafitti movement to bring down the new COPS scoring system. It's destoying the sport, and we must return skating to its rightful owners, the fans. We demand a return to the old 6.0 scoring system!!!! The whole idea of the new scoring was to stop the cheating. Well, it hasn't done it, and now the cheating is just hidden deeper in confidentiality..Join us, everyone....type this statement on EVERY skating site and posting you can find.Better the devil we know
After the '88 Games, I went to our local library to look her up. It turns out she wrote a book called "Peace+Christ"...So I wrote to her. She wrote back, sending one of her personal highlighted Bibles.
How nice for you!! I think her book is call "Peace and Love', but maybe it translates differently into other lanquages. An extraodinary skater....she was, and probably still is, a missionary at heart!! K9 sends you a 'Presbyterian' blessing too!!!!!! best wishes
yes, motivation is a key component, but you never realy know the purpose of what your are doing......Janet is introducting skating to an entire nation....I am sure she did not realize that at the time.....and i know, she never skated for money or fame....but felt the pressure to represent her country! She skated for something "inner" that all skaters know....and that is why she is still so relevant today!
yes, the entrancing, captivating aspect of her free skating was quite extraordinary. The speed and edging she had this evening also outstanding as well, exciting!!! Janet was first and foremost a 'spiritual' experience....thanks for commenting, best wishes
mmmmm....as far as I know, Winston Churchill invented the V sign in WW2.....but Janet may have introduced it in Japan. She signed a lot of autographs "Peace and Love" so that makes sense. It was also the title of her autobiography!! thanks for commenting...best wishes
Yes, Janet has a special place in many hearts. She was more than a skater, she touched God with her inspired performances, and let others see him in the process. And she will continue to do so, for all time!!! The vision is captured right here! best wishes and love from America!!! Rick
Thanks for the comment!!! (If any one can translate, feel free to add the English!!) I hope this is complimentary!!??!! lol best wishes to all.......JAPAN rocks (in figure skating anyway!!)
wow. how far american ladies' skating has fallen. somehow now we're supposed to be enraptured by 14 year olds we've never heard of. i think sasha and michelle were the last echoing gasp from the time of figures. ladies' figure skating may no longer exist, welcome to girls' ice acrobatics. sigh.
thanks to your videos, some new generations will find inspiration. arigato gozaimusu!
Yes, I've been thinking very similar thoughts this week! They have designed a sport that only 9-13 year olds can do...how foolish! And how sad for the girls when their hips spread and its ALL over!! it's the death of ladies FS, not to mention womens skating! Perhaps they can add additional events, or a new overseeing organization might be nice!!! best wishes
Well, don't give up hope. Athletics can only progress so far - I don't think we'll see many quintuple jumps! Maybe skating, inspired by the "old masters" like Lynn, will go back to its roots, even reintroduce the "figures" as a separate sport - I miss those, too.
Yes, like Dick said at Nationals, SOMEONE will win the US Ladies Championship....I think we have to fight to make it a worthwhile honor....not a freak show!!! A figures event would be terrific in my mind too......or a second event for girls over 16!! thanks for commenting, best wishes
Two things. 1st - I never knew figure skating existed until I saw this performance on TV. I've been hooked ever since. Janet will always be one of my favorites. This was a great memory. 2nd - Trixie Schuba should be damn glad there were still school figures in existence for her gold medal.
Yea, I suppose so, but they were a big part of the sport early on...had they been judged fairly and honestly, people might not have become sooo hostile to them. They were a control tool, for an elite cadre to control the sport. I used to love watching Trixie carve out those loops though, it was a thing of beauty as well.
I hate that world culture became so fixated on a preconceived idea of physical beauty. It used to be what's inside that counts. Trixie looked like every other girl in Austria, then and now. There are Austrian skaters on YOUTUBE right now that look just like her...if a bit thinner. To knock her, is to knock an entire country. Not nice.
i love this performance. its so inspiring. especially when she falls on the flying sit sping because you can see her laughing/smiling when shes getting up. its like shes still just having fun skating.
She is the reason why Asians are obsessed with our peace sign..........

I remember watching this in 1972. Janet fell but still received a prefect 6 by a judge. She was just beautiful to watch.

Didn't she start V-sign in Japan too? She's pretty and an inspiration so it's would make sense.

I will try,
I am unbearably glad to finally meet you at that time. Janet.
I was the Sapporo Olympics, for the first time as for you, and it became a big fan. A lot of recorded magazines of you were bought.
Generation's today skater's technique is wonderful. However, Janet's acting was "Acted by fascinating. "
Everyone might have felt it so.
We wish to express our gratitude for improving. Thank you very much!!
