  • Norway is the last Soviet state ;)

  • what place is this and why is California in the tags of the video?

  • Americans pay 30 billion each year to Israel which pays for their Universal medicare system

    nicely .

  • @dave777blaster ha, we kinda use those guys to keep the area in check w/o sending our own people. Kinda like outsourcing or one big merc company.

  • we should ALL move there one day

  • What was the country? Germany?

  • The country is Norway. Germany is nowhere near.

  • @ronoc9 Norway :D

  • YES France has one of the best health system in the world. You can get a top specialist on the day. There is no monkey business with health insurances: they pay anything 100%! And insurances are cheap.

  • he went to cheadle....

  • you just have to love Norway<3:D

  • I'm sorry, i was commenting to the whole version on youtube, must have clicked on wrong one:D

  • I'm sitting here proud and smiling right now:P

BTW, I don't think there's more than one of those prisons, but the other ones are quite "nice" so I've heard personally from former inmates.

  • The best thing i as a Swede can do - is work i Norway for the hight saleryes, and live in Sweden for the low tax´es. Hell i live in Göteborg and can be in Oslo in under 5 hour´s by car. The good thing with this is i dont have to pay the higher Norwegian tax, so its a win win deal. :) More Pro´s in favor of Sweden: low tax on cars with high horsepower. BTW norwegians buy food and most inportent alkohol cheeaper here in Sweden, they just drive over the border ;) VÄLKOMMNA!

  • Tusen takk

  • I live in Sweden, so we have almost the same thing ;)

  • your country is a reference

  • It wasn't the US that is for sure lol.

  • Just wacthed this movie, loves the special feature about Norway.

  • tell me where? please

  • where is this place?!

  • Norway, up on the east side

  • Norway, up on the east side

  • Norway, up on the east side

  • Norway, up on the east side

  • really?

  • Our country isnt cheap for others yes but u most keep in mind out salleries are 11 times of what americans earn so in the end its we're alot richer then average americans

  • Okay, the respone funtion does not work perfectly fine, annyway, i would like to add that i get like 4000 dollars as long as i finish high-school :D

I have allready bought nintendo wii x-box 360 a flatscreen tv and a lot of games, lol...

I get this money because one of my parents earn less then like 80 000 dollars a year :D

  • 80000 dollar= 404 387 589 korner.... mange millioner altså... tror nok du mener 8000

  • 80.000 dollar er ikke flere millioner, nei. Det er 399.560, altså fire HUNDRE TUSEN, ikke millioner.

  • O yeah, Norway is great. But the country next to it has all the same things... And it does NOT (not not not) depent on OIL!

  • Actually, Norway has oil near the Stavanger area. She just chooses not to overuse it.

  • Yes, we have good social benefits here in Norway, and that is all thanks to the workers movement. Norway has had active workers unions pushing for good benefits for the entire population for almost 100 years. I think the main difference between Norway and USA is that we have had strong, communistic workers unions fighting for the rights of the working people, while in America you have been fed with anticommunist-propaganda since the 30`s. We owe much to the workers unions of the last century!

  • *socialistic

  • *name one thing wrong with "socialism"

  • and our politicians are just as much hypnotized by money and power! They really do nothing about the problems in this little shithole called Norway. They are to busy playing ambassadors an giving away our money to " real needy" people! Yoy know, the same kind of people that is threatening us everytime something goes wrong intheir own country! You know..those muslim bastards!

  • Haha, u'r funny.

    ...And ignorant ;D

  • Hmmm...

The gouverment is not responsable for tromsø, the local politicians are. The gouverment develope money so that your local politicians can choose what to do with them ;D

  • It's a town? I go there when the army gives us the week-end off, and it's not really more than the area that has the highest people to reindeer in the county... :p

  • help me government, I need you cradle to the crave, grow up and take responciblilty for yourself

  • ummm am i the ONLY person willing to pay higher taxes to ensure that my family and your family has health care?

    why are we so selfish?

this is the biggest penny pintching country on earth and its so sad.

  • u might have lower taxes in US but u got shit income i mean someone wich wash floors in norway earns 20USD every hour but most earn like 48 USD every hour.i love when i travel on vecation i feal like a millionair in your cheap countries :)

  • Well, there are two things you don't take into your calculation. First: We earn more money. Higher salaries = higher prices. Second: you get about the same in the states for $1 as you get for 10NOK here. So, you have to divide the price on 10, not the value of the currency.

Your price is off as well. You dont pay that much. A 60GB iPod costs 3800NOK, and that divided on 10 is 380USD. If you bought an iPod for 3800NOK then it would have the same impact in an American wallet if they payed $380.

  • this sounds so beautiful but maybe uall dont know that this eaupean nations pay a 35% taxe rate to make all these things happen...while in the U.S, we pay around a 8-10%!! and we all get pissed if the GOV starts to impose a higher tax!!

  • Norwy is not a member of the EU

  • Tnx for letting me know but I said ALL earopean nations pay a very high tax rate! it doesnt matter if u belong to the EU or not!

  • yeah, we pay high taxes, but our wages are pretty good ;)

  • And we also get 6 weeks paid holidays per year. :)

  • and yet, we live very comfy :) It's not that high man. Our salaries are bigger too than the american salaries.

  • No, that's not true. Actually in Eastern and Central Europe the taxes can be quite low. Naturally they also have a lower average income. Lithuania has one of the lowest flat tax rates in the world.

  • And, for our higher taxes, we get excellent pot-hole-free roads, excellent infrastructures (bridges don't collapse), excellent social services, free health care, low criminality, excellent schools, excellent universities which don't cost students more than $5,000 per year, etc., etc., so we really don't have anything to complain about with regard to our higher taxes.

  • all right uall!! can uall like stop saying this bc it pisses me off tha we dont get the same freaking benefits!! so pissed! then we have an idiot in power! ugh

  • i kno europe is soo much better, hell i can get the same college education in france(im french btw)for free, i dont hv to pay 50,000$ and be in debt for the next 20 years of my life.

  • Considering what you get for your money, Americans are being cheated at 10%, whereas in Europe, 35% is a real bargain for what they get in return!

  • on population scale alone its impossible to compare the u.s. to a european country. what works over there wont necessarily work here and if cant see why this is then your stupid.

  • Yea, how can you have worlds bigest army and universal healthcare at the same time? dumb cunts!

  • Oh, really? You do know the EU has 450+ million citizens and that Europe as a whole close to 700 million. The US only has 300 million.

  • yea as a continent they have a larger population, what does this prove. every country has their own individual healthcare system.

  • what scary place????

  • I saw this extra entirely on the Sicko DVD and this place is Norway. They have the lowest murder rate in the entire world and the maximum jail sentence is 21 years. Obviously there is no death penalty. What are they are doing that is working?

  • Well; In Norway we got a thing called "kjærleik"(love). And love is a weapon we use to help people; even rapists and murderers.

  • yea i saw this too, laughed pretty hard when i saw what they were doing in that jail, giving a chainsaw to a convicted murderer, lol. but it still works and its obviously way better than in america.

  • Actually, it's really just 14, since you only serve 2/3rds of a sentence. Then if you do something that lands you in jail again, you serve 3/3rds of that sentence plus the last third from the last time. So it's an instrument to keep you on the straight and narrow. Hey it works!

  • This is the place where officers have no guns where you can take a year off materinty ward and still get paid. where if u cant take public transportation because you are disabled then the government buys you a car. yes, this is norway.

  • As manipulative as Michal Moore films are this seems pretty compelling especially when he sites specific facts about the rankings...Sometimes disparate facts DO add up to an argument...

  • Great for the Scandinavians but while billions of other people all over the world lived for centuries and still live with better caring humane alternatives, POOR AMERICA is still living in hype to feel better about itself. Isn't about time for America to face the heat and take a cue from others and learn "charity begins at home". Somebody has to tell the king (America) is naked. It might be painful but at least it true. Isn't?

  • Norwegian army. payment: 126 NOK -> Hamburger menu : 128 NOK. Jippyjaho. :P

  • Don't worry, now it's 129,- a day, and the burger isn't the cheap McD version either.

  • Yeeey ! Norway x'D

  • I don't think the Norwegian practice is perfect. It's good, but could have been better. What about people with eye-problems and teeth-problems? They still have to pay 8.000$ to get treatment.

  • It is true that you pay for teeth and eye-problems yourself when you are over 18, but most people can afford it without to much trouble.

  • NO. thats not true, MonoRec88.

I've had such a suggery and i payed around 2000dlz for it. since the US dollar is merely 5 kr i had to pay around 10000 kr, witch is affordable for most people in Norway. Normal people make around 300 000 kr a year.

  • That's wrong. Remember you pay about 45% taxes if you work in the government. And also are those with teeth problems often aren't well-payed, and they therefore prioritize NOT to do their teeth. Every session is about 1000 NOK, and that's for checking if your teeth are healthy.

Also, many eye-problems are more complicated than only adjusting the sight. Muscular problems for example.

  • You are all wrong. It is NOT leagel to NOT have a helth inshurence, for those who do not afford one get one from the goverment. The reason of our high taxes is because you vote the liberals. Vote the radicals and the rich motherfuckers with over 700 000 NOK incom a year can pay for youre dentist.

The goverment do not pay for your grill, they pay for healthy teeths.

  • Hva er det du babler om egentlig?

  • Hahaha, lurer jeg og på. Det der var bare fryktelig på alle måter... :S

  • Go Norway!!:D

  • One of the reasons our system works, is that we are not as overpoplulated as other countries. So don't come here.

  • Lol well said

    but its really cold there

  • Trust me, if you had the chance to live in America, you'd be begging to go back to Norway most likely especially these days. lol

  • Come on, America cant be compared to Norway anyway, maybe he made this film to show how crappy america is?

  • And how would you know that when you haven't lived in another country? I live in Norway myself, and I love it. Sure, it's expensive to live here, but that's also one of the reasons why we're so close to heaven here xD

  • Whos said i havent? I have been living IN FRANCE, and i liked it better there, much better than boring norway.

  • Then why dont you move back to your beloved France, then...

  • yay france owns im french

  • What are you talking about? Yeah, stuff is expensive here, but keep in mind that you earn twice of what you would do for the same job somewhere else. Norway IS the best country in the world to live in.

  • Even tho we earn so much, we have to use the money we earn on thing to survive.

  • Yes, I just recently bought a PC for $2000, my mom bought a horse for $10000 and rents a stable place for it. How could we live without it?

I have high speed internet connection, three PCs (that's only me, total in my house is seven). And I am even still an apprentice, only getting half of normal minimum income.

My parents have a 4 floor house and two cars, one is a SUV.

    Life is horrible, isn't it?

  • Your just spoiled.

  • Yeah, spoiled by earning my own money and using it. Damn I need to stop spoiling myself.

It is all about prioritizing. I don't have a car, because I can get to work by bus or bike. I save a lot by doing that, having money left for other stuff.

Claiming that you need to spend all your money to survive when you live in Norway is just wrong.

If you don't have a job you get just enough money from the state to survive. But it is supposed to be like that, so you don't abuse the social system.

  • Ikke alle nordmenn er så bortskjemte som deg da..

  • I moved to denmark.. I miss grandiosa :(

  • Hey, Americans, go get yourself a social healthcare system! You, won´t regret! You may have to pay a little more taxes on average, but as society you will pay less, as you don´t have to waste money on private insurance bureaucracy. You are de worlds largest health-spenders, and it's not because you get the best healthcare.

  • Don't speak nonsense. If, and when you get seriously ill, you will be grateful that you won't get a huge medical bill. And get real about your so called HUGE line.

  • Go Norway ^^

  • Pergau

Norway has had no immigration since the seventies.. hm? i dident know that, maby becouse it`s BOLLOCKS

  • Norway has had no immigration since the seventies, but scandinavians can freely migrate within scandinavia as a mutual agreement between the governments of norway, sweden and denmark. if you're from a western country, it should not be a problem to get a visa for a couple of years, though. only bona fide refugees get norwegian passports if you don't get married to a norwegian...

  • WRONG!

There are lots of immigrants in Norway from other parts of the world, most notably the middle east.

  • thats a worry

  • Im a norwegian, I wont exchange my citizenship with any citizenship.

  • I guess you're a Norwegian living in a American body. ;)

  • Its Norway!

  • Scandinavia, best place on earth :)

    United States of Scandinavia ftw!

  • it's funny to me, that amricans woulden't belive this,, but my fellow norwegians we can only do this because we have oil, but we should still be a model for other rich countries and developing countries, cous you need money to do this

  • Yes, but what amazes me is that the scandinavians built their society before most of the oil was discovered, the oil was a windfall on a almost perfect system already. The Republic of Ireland is also very nice which is kinda odd for an Anglo country, where selfish individualism rules and any instition seems to be ran into the ground by greed and corruption.

  • Ireland, "Anglo country". Please explain.

  • Sweden and Denmark are great too, and they don't have oil. It's more a matter of putting society first, where as some other countries it's the survival of the fittest/richest.

  • If you want universal health care, go buy "Sicko" on DVD, watch it, then pay it forward to someone who hasn't seen it. Encourage them to do the same, and encourage your friends to do the same. It could spark a revolution, or at least a national strike.

  • If USA doe not get Universal Health Care I am moving OUT of it and taking all my money with me and never looking back period !

  • check out canada - lots of jobs in the province of Ontario and Alberta and if you have skills in the crude oil undustry then you are in great demand.

  • also nurses and doctors could find a job in canada easy

  • Hi nohealth,

I left the US and came to Toronto, Ontario two years ago. I have a great job out here and have NO regrets at all with this move. There is no worry about health insurance and anytime i'm sick I know i can go into a walk-in clinic and get help.

The hardest thing to do out here is merely to find a family doctor and you are set! Best of luck!

  • Well, I'm norwegian.

And yes, we have universal health care.

But just as you know it, you need to pay to see a doctor, after 18 or 21 you need to pay your dental bills, universities tuition cost, school books cost, you need to pay for your perscribed drugs.

And what's scary is that the current is rising alot, food is getting more expensive, gasoline, the interest has gone way up, and the real estate price has risen past the ozonlayer.

  • Yeah, one must pay to see a doctor here, but it is only a little under most peoples hourly wages. Really, its not much. (All visits are free to women who are pregnant) And as you said, FREE before 18. Think of how much less stress that is for a parent. ;) And university cost are NOTHING on US cost...nothing. ;) As for rising food and gas, thats universal. ;)

  • i know norway isn't perfect, but the things we could break out in strike for here in norway, are things most other countries could only dream of getting in the first place. we have to realize how lucky we are to have this system, but im scared aswell of the things starting to happen. but face it, we can't live on oil forever

  • You pay your doctor till your bills reach about $300 and then you get the rest of your visits to the doctor free, for the rest of the year. Don't complain about norwegian healthcare. We have the best healthcare in the world. But of course, we can allways be better.

  • The hospital does not demand money from you when you are seriously ill, and need life saving treatment.

Talking about house rent prices and drugs. We have the best country to live in and should not be allowed to complain... especially about the interest, you know its this high because Norwegians are spending too much money!

  • And its only self protective! We have great roads, great climate, clean and healthy cities, almost no crime. Its so short distances in norway, so when ur short on cash take ur bike or a bus if the gas prices which are the same as rest of europe is too high for Your Highness!

  • Some things could be privatized, but privatizing Norway would make us greedy and false! just like the american society!

  • Drop roads and you are 100% correct. (living on the country)

  • Ditto! The roads are no good :(

  • u got it excatly right about it being short distances. im french and lived there for the first 9 years of my life and i walked EVERYWHERE. i would walk 3 miles to school, in U.S., ppl take their car to go across the street.

  • cool

    umm

can i become a norway citizen too

or is it just a good place if you are born there and live there etc.

sounds like even if it is great

you'd have to be pretty wealthy in the first place to ever get there and/or live there

i love this movie but it's like waving donuts in front of people at fat camp

like, HA HA sucks to be you, you can't have this, your government spits on you

    great

    now what?

  • Anybody can move to Norway as long as you have enough money, and can get a job and citizenship. You need quite a lot of money because everything is a bit more expensive here (but the wages are even higher).

  • Yep the rub is in the citzenship part, you need money, but that is not the most important part, preparation and dedication is, you obviously can't live the average consumerist way for a year or two as you settle in and adjust to a massive change.

  • As far as I know, we have about 20000 immigrants from Sweden every year to Norway. It is quite easy to get a citizenship here if you get a job. It is also a lot easier when you come from a western-world country.

  • Yeah I know, the system seems to be set up to keep everybody in their countries... And it is not about money, you can have lots of money and the bureacracy and regulations is horrid, it is literally easier if your a refugee....

  • well when i graduate i can offer to fields of chemistry, math, and some actuarial stuff but then if the insurance companies are not robbing you the last would offer no assistance haha

    need any chemist there?

  • or a turntablist

how can i forget that one

  • Norway needs all sorts of skilled workers. You don't have to be born here to get a very good life, just a well paid job. Why not contact the Norwegian Embassy, they will most likely be able to help you.

    Dutch in Norway

  • Why you moved from the netherlands?

  • I married a Norwegian.

  • oh, but, the netherlands got hot women. In my head atleast.

  • I want to move to Norway or some country around there from America. Will you guys take me? I'm not like most Americans, I swear. =)

  • Come on over. You will be most welcome :)

  • I have cousins in Sweden and i live in Canada.

canada has Universal Health Care and it is NOT bad and lot better than what is happening in the USA.

  • Hi Teamsicko,

In America people talk shit about Canada's health system (especially politicians who never bothered to visit here) because they feel threatened about the truth. They know it's better out here and I can personally tell you that I feel the media and politicians have been very dishonest with Americans about Canada and Europe. They want Americans to feel afraid and only know that America is better for them. Sad isn't it?

  • Yes, it's so sad. Americans deserve to know the truth, but that won't happened as long as too many Americans are watching Fox (Faux) News. Hopefully the Americans gonna wakeup one of these days.

  • Haha, yeah well but remember that it is utopia because verybody is nice AND productive. If you have a good marketable degree, you should be able to get a very nice job. But emigration is a massive endeavor and not cheap unless you are a refugee(which you dont want to be either :-( ). Also not English speaking country, maybe you should try Ireland :-).

  • You are welcome in my opinion, but it's pretty hard to get citizenship :-( Our country have its faults, but we can complain about them really. We also do not dislike americans, or muslims, or jews... we're all people. The american foreign policy I can critizie though, but we're also in afganistan and I am utterly ashamed of that :-(

  • hehe this is norway alright. my land. and we sure are scary people! if you get sick here, you have free access to a luxury suite with your own TV, round-the-clock care and paid vacation for as long as you need. awful, i know!

  • Yep, it's Norway. From the Sicko wiki-article: "Norway was removed from the film because its health care system possess numerous benefits similar to the French system. For example, Norwegian patients treated for an illness like psoriasis or rheumatism are eligible for two weeks paid vacation at a spa in the Canary Islands. Norway hires a government ethicist to determine who they should spend their money on, because they want to do it in an ethical way."

  • ANNNDDDDD

  • My cousin lives with his Danish wife in Copenhagen, so I too am betting it's one of those nasty, horrid, stinky, SOCIALIST Scandinavian countries! You know? Where the quality of life is about ten times that of the United States?????

  • Robtran, wjfox2006, MonkeyWrench4269101,

    annanomoly & juliact:

You are correct juliact, it is my beloved Norway <3

ree healthcare until 18, from 18 to 21 you get 75% off dental bills, nice hospitals, nice healthcare where most of the rooms have TV and is double-rooms, but if necessary 4 people can sleep there withouth problem.

  • almost as good as in the prisons, seriously.

  • One of the Scandinavian countries... has to be.

  • what place?

  • Is it Norway? They have birth to death cover including dental and mental health.

  • No, dental care is only free while you're in school, from age 18/20(don't remember) you have to pay your self. The difference between dental and other healthcare here in Norway is that Dental is privatised, while almost everything else is run by state/Municipalities.

  • what country was it then??
