Never heard of this university. I would be very skeptical of this product until it was scientifically reviewed by authorities on dyslexia. I have found that students respond better to certain fonts, but to say that this one is somehow better without real research is premature.
I am Dyslexic and I use to have a very hard time reading due to it. Honestly the best method I found for me is to read things upside down. The letter for me already turn that way so why not turn them to were I see them the right way. I am 23 and I have been reading (not all the time) things upside down since forth grade. It works for me.
Interesting? Yes... but 69 euros? Wtf is wrong with our world?. Money is more important than helping people?... I'm not saying to make it free, but at least a reasonable price, or a symbolic price.. not that ultra price...
Note, I am dyslexic and I DO NOT see letters like this! However I DO see NUMBERS like this! Not all dyslexic people have problems with reading. Just saying! haha.
this is a miracle! I almost cried! I couldn't read until I was in the end of 4th into 5/6th grade, nobody would help me, we have a girl in my class with shaken baby syndrome and she gets all the attention and help, I always get pushed to the side, and now as a high school senior my grades still suffer because of stupid mistakes. I had to teach myself to read, sometimes I still can't, I still write entire words upside down and backwards, and numbers are just as bad, but this is just amazing!
I'm not Dyslexic, but I can just image how hard it is from them to go through school/work everyday with letters and things getting mixed around. Not only is this a helpful font, but it's a really neat font too! Hope to see it around more places soon!
Fonts are one part of the puzzle and the creative way these letters got developed show one of the hallmarks of dyslexia - creativity. Simply changing the font is one way of addressing one symptom of dyslexia. To really get to the root of the how and why of letter confusion you really have to understand the Gift of Dyslexia and how uncertainty about letters can turn on the cells in your brain, the creativity cells, the mind's eye, that try to make sense of these random marks, we use as letters.
As an English teacher living in Holland, I'd be glad to give this guy a few grammar tips for that video, there are a few mistakes. Regardless, fabulous job inventing that font. You'll be making many of my students very happy in the future.
This is actually great. I'm a dyslexic and my handwriting is fairly similar to that, a bit sloppier, but it follows the same patterns, and is easy for me to read.
Interestingly enough not only was the text easier to read I also comprehended what I was reading much much better than I usually do with standard text, the people who made this are geniuses and this should definitely be a part of the education system. I have a friend who is dyslexic and I think he might have been much better off had he been introduced to reading using this typeface.
I really wish I had this when I was younger, then maybe school would not have been so dis-heartening. But I am now in University doing quite well for myself and this new type face will make reading documents all the better for me.

It's about time. i was fortunate enough to have my daughter' eyes tested by someone who knew something about eye exercises etc.. He suggested she get glasses with a +1 magnifying lens to read. This helped immensely since most print is small. I myself have chosen to buy hard bound books and use a reader where u can increase print size. This is great for dyslexics and people over 55. That is a large group.
I am dyslexic and this was pretty amazing to watch. It's pretty sad how many kids slip through the cracks in school every year because our disability isn't visible, teachers discriminate against us every day and the issue is left untouched. I remember day's in high school where I thought I would be better off being in a wheel chair because then maybe I wouldn't be called stupid and lazy or singled out in the middle of class. Seeing this is a big deal to me, means people are starting to care.
I tutor kids with dyslexia using cursive handwriting and we DO care! Things are changing in your favor. Thanks SO MUCH for sharing your heart felt thoughts. When dyslexics "open up" about their struggles, it helps me teach them! My daughter is dyslexic and I'm SO JEALOUS of her photographic memory!
I feel you. Big thanks to my mother who got me through school. fighting ignorant teachers, schools and public service. taking care that i get an appropriate therapy.
To many kids out there who fall through the cracks.
If it would only be that it's not visible. But my experience was that the school and teachers actively took an effort against my mother when she realized my problem. Without a strong person to look out for you, you're very likely lost in school with dislexia.
@ethmasterflex Almost the exact same situation with me. I'm currently in high school, and I know just how it feels. Teachers constantly say I'm a slacker, and if I say "I have Dyslexia," they think I'm cracking a joke. That makes it even more humiliating. I strive to do my best, but it's still not as good as it needs to be in some cases.
So cool! I think this really should be standard. I think it would help everyone to be able to read faster. Especially dyslexics, foreigners, and kids who are new to reading our letters.
just incredible!!!! i´ve dyslexie i never was think that has a so easy solution... or study for to help the essential... to read! Normaly i saw a similar typeface on material from weleda and many books waldorf... thanks
You still have a capital I(i)/lower l(L) problem (which, surprise, look the same here!), as does gill dyslexic These and other solutions need to be compared and tested. What we really need is a totally phonetic alphabet, which would require something like 47 letters. Still, those letters would need greater difference graphically. For instance, why can't the bottom of a 'd' be more like a delta? Why not eliminate caps altogether?

@StreepHetWeg, Google says "gotten" is an Americanism that does not exist or belong in International English. I'm not American, so why would I use it?
"The conclusion of the study was that reading with the font “Dyslexie” doesn’t lead to an increase in reading speed. There was however a decrease in the reading errors when dyslectics read words that where printed in the font “Dyslexie”. This is an indication that reading with the font “Dyslexie” decreases the reading errors."
This is amazing! I have dyslexia and when i opened the story link from
fastcodesign my eyes instantly relaxed when reading the sample - it works!!!. My eyes actually felt like they took a deep breath and took it all in. Wow! I never would have thought that a font would make such a difference.
How about a site like freepdfconvert that produces PDF documents using the Dyslexie font. It would allow educators and individuals to upload their docs and convert them into more readable versions for their students/themselves without robbing you of the opportunity to make money from designers and deep pocketed organizations. It would also bring a ton of traffic to your site which would lead to more customers for your fonts and better search ranking. Win - win?
I am amazed nobody thought of this before, its really easy to read. Unfortunately, I agree with all the comments regarding the high price, there clearly needs to be more thought given to getting this into the hands of individuals and schools at a more reasonable price.
@StreepHetWeg Thanks for the clarification, Streep. There's a discussion on this font in my Google+ circle and it's mainly focused on the price. I don't know what the answer is; software licensing is only barely enforced and font licensing has not been enforced since the 1990s. That battle is lost, I'm afraid. I think the developer should be well compensated for his work, but 165 prices the font well out of my reach.
I have a little bit of advice from a dyslexic if you do a video for dyslexics don't have writing. Dyslexics do not like to read that much why don't you try a voice-over
My second son had problems with dyslexia in kindergarten. One of his tutors suggested having him do all his reading while wearing yellow tinted lenses. I thought that was a nutty idea but it worked.
I showed this to my mother (a self-diagnosed dyslexic) and she read with so much more ease. It's too bad that things like this didn't exist when she was in school in the 50s.
I am dyslexic and it seemed to read very smooth, saying that I am having a good reading day and ironically I didnt manage to finish reading the text at the end.
I think is a good thing for dyslexic persons, any tool that helps them be successful in the linear world is a good thing. Although it may not help all it will help some and that is important for the ones it does help. I am dyslexic and look forward to using the text when it is published. Thanks to the forward mind of the dyslexic who thought of this.
Probably should have got a native English speaker to write the script when promoting a dyslexia product. "by making the underside more bold of the letters" etc
@AuH2O I have Aspergers' and what you're doing seems really counter-productive. You think that because I have Aspergers' I can't function like a normal person. I can now, but that's why I was given that title (it's not fun being given a label). I had a rough childhood, but now I own a successful online tech publication, I have friends and family and I am proud of who I am. Sure I have my quirks (really, I do and their fucking weird), but I think you and I are more alike than you'd think.
on the website of studiostudio.nl you can read more about the typefave dyslexie. We are working on it to sell it abroad. Send me a email so when its ready I can mail you. You can instal the font dyslexie so that you can read it in your browser and read website and mail in the font. If you got a question or want a text in the font you can mail it. Christian Boer
@AuH2O Would just like to throw out, my brother is one of the most intelligent people I know. He's heavily dyslexic, but holds a first in Biochemistry.
The findings from their work is quite remarkable, but I can't help but feel like what they produced is awkward visually they differentiation they talk about could still be achieved without screaming comic sans.
Wow, this is a fantastic invention. It's very simple to implement and will will help all kinds of people. I'm very happy to know about this and I hope it spreads far and wide.
AuH2O, I feel sorry for you. Must be awful walking around with a soul full of hate. I hope you get better someday. If not, I just hope you lose posting privileges EVERYWHERE so you can't spread your despicable bigotry. Also, Barry Goldwater would be enraged at you using his name to make such hateful and ignorant remarks.
i'm brazilian and i have some dificult on reading in english in a short time.. i with dyslexie i realized how i could read the paragraph at 1:32 much easier
This is very helpful...if i want to read that one piece of writing at the end! Please make this downloadable! It's so easy to read, please put it up for download.
I don't have dyslexia and I could read the paragraphs @1:32 much faster than standard text. The letters are so easy to differentiate that you can zoom through... I want this everywhere!
@ytrehalfD I *am* dyslexic, and for the first time, I actually achieved what I believe to be normal reading speed. It's fairly awesome. Unfortunately, with the makers of the font being so mercenary in their pricing, it's simply a matter of time before someone more altruistic takes the principals taught by this font and applies them elsewhere. I look forward to it appearing free in font repositories within the next 2 years.
@ytrehalfD You're absolutely right. I was able to read the entire text until the end of the video, and I'm Portuguese and not good in English at all. I guess it would be impossible with another font.
@rcspv Comic Sans needs to die. Every time I hear someone throwing a shit fit because a flyer wasn't printed out in the favored font of dyslectics and emotionally stunted office ladies everywhere, it makes me want to punch babies. It's time to embrace a font made for grown-ups, children.
@rcspv Not at all. Comic Sans is fairly uniform, containing all the problems associated with other fonts listed in the video. It also has round edges -- this new font does not. The Dyslexie font might seem "fun" looking to you, which might be why you associated it with Comic Sans, but in the end they have nothing in common.
@rcspv This is my first intro to the dyslexie font; however, it's curioius that I use Comic Sans as my default email font. Were you making a connection between the two styles?
€69 is not a bad price considering its around £400 for fonts such as Helvetica

You guys really should have gotten a native speaker to work on the English. There are quite a few mistakes...

Cool, and pretty, too!

Please excuse the question - is there meant to be no soundtrack / dialogue?

i am dyslexic, and i dont just read backwards, i type, write, and talk backwards too. this would help me more than i can probably imagine! thank you

I think is a good thing for dyslexic persons, any tool that helps them be successful in the linear world is a good thing. Although it may not help all it will help some and that is important for the ones it does help. I am dyslexic and look forward to using the text when it is published. Thanks to the forward mind of the dyslexic who thought of this.
judster1961 7 months ago
Probably should have got a native English speaker to write the script when promoting a dyslexia product. "by making the underside more bold of the letters" etc

@n00bt00btv Yes. People with Aspergers' are definitely retards.
AuH2O 8 months ago

Stupid? I think not.
ArathorEUBux 8 months ago 5
The findings from their work is quite remarkable, but I can't help but feel like what they produced is awkward visually they differentiation they talk about could still be achieved without screaming comic sans.
kulo0903kid 8 months ago
Wow, this is a fantastic invention. It's very simple to implement and will will help all kinds of people. I'm very happy to know about this and I hope it spreads far and wide.
AuH2O, I feel sorry for you. Must be awful walking around with a soul full of hate. I hope you get better someday. If not, I just hope you lose posting privileges EVERYWHERE so you can't spread your despicable bigotry. Also, Barry Goldwater would be enraged at you using his name to make such hateful and ignorant remarks.

@AuH20 you're a dick. Would you say the same about braille?

Is the font something that will be available to the public at some point? I don't see a download link, but would love to put this to use asap!
kwikemart 8 months ago
This is very helpful...if i want to read that one piece of writing at the end! Please make this downloadable! It's so easy to read, please put it up for download.
mullettruejay 8 months ago
download link please?
regism1980 8 months ago
I don't have dyslexia and I could read the paragraphs @1:32 much faster than standard text. The letters are so easy to differentiate that you can zoom through... I want this everywhere!

@ytrehalfD ME TOO!!
Pintyp96 8 months ago
@ytrehalfD funny didn't feel like i read it faster

@ytrehalfD Same here, I'm not dyslexic but this typeface feels very relaxing for the eyes.

@ytrehalfD Yes!
NavadeHo 7 months ago
@ytrehalfD I *am* dyslexic, and for the first time, I actually achieved what I believe to be normal reading speed. It's fairly awesome. Unfortunately, with the makers of the font being so mercenary in their pricing, it's simply a matter of time before someone more altruistic takes the principals taught by this font and applies them elsewhere. I look forward to it appearing free in font repositories within the next 2 years.
TheKrysee 7 months ago 3
@TheKrysee Thats really cool to hear. Sounds like a great open source project, no?
ytrehalfD 7 months ago
@ytrehalfD You're absolutely right. I was able to read the entire text until the end of the video, and I'm Portuguese and not good in English at all. I guess it would be impossible with another font.

Soo, what you did was, mess up a type face and call it "dyslectic solution", humm intriguing.

COMIC SANS !
rcspv 8 months ago 37
@rcspv Comic Sans needs to die. Every time I hear someone throwing a shit fit because a flyer wasn't printed out in the favored font of dyslectics and emotionally stunted office ladies everywhere, it makes me want to punch babies. It's time to embrace a font made for grown-ups, children.
AgentBeryllium 7 months ago
@rcspv Interestingly, Comic Sans is easier to for dyslexics to read than typefaces like Helvetica.
kelath5555 7 months ago
@rcspv Not at all. Comic Sans is fairly uniform, containing all the problems associated with other fonts listed in the video. It also has round edges -- this new font does not. The Dyslexie font might seem "fun" looking to you, which might be why you associated it with Comic Sans, but in the end they have nothing in common.
fireflyzlament 7 months ago 3
@rcspv This is my first intro to the dyslexie font; however, it's curioius that I use Comic Sans as my default email font. Were you making a connection between the two styles?
marypelhamw 6 months ago
Well intentioned. But naive. Distinctive shapes don't need to be un-harmonious.
sorkineben 8 months ago
